Great Idea for Christmas fundraising

Christmas is an excellent time for all those easy to organise fundraising events; this year as well as the obvious cake sales and christmas hamper raffle, I've asked my colleagues to make a donation to my chosen charity, Grace House Children's Hospice appeal, in lieu of sending Christmas cards to each other - I am going to put up a Christmas Poster in our reception area for everyone to write a Christmas greeting - a great way to raise some extra cash and save some trees at the same time!

Race Nights

Hiya

Just thought i would let you know about charity race nights, they raise quite a bit of money.

I managed to get prizes free for the winning owners. and my takings were:

Based on 8 races with 8 horses in each race

Race sponsors @ £30 each for 8 races = £240 (i managed to get local businesses to sponsor the races)

Horse ownership @ £3 per horse for 64 horses = £192

Entrance ticket fee of £3.50 and had 100 people turn up = £350

Sale of tote tickets on the night made £800

Raffle raised £100

I then had to pay £250 for the pie and peas supper on the night and £400 out in betting wins. i had a friend run the night for me for free, but it cost around £70 to hire the videos etc. I also manged to get the venue for free.

I raised a total of £1032 in the space of 4 hours, and everyone had a great time.

I am hoping to organise another one soon

T-shirt printing and other stuff

My name is Louise, I'm planning to run 100 miles this year in different events to raise money for St Anne's Hospice. I'm pretty new to all this, so I was hoping some people would be able to help me.

Firstly, I'd like to get some t-shirts printed for during my races, with my justgiving site info on them, does anybody know of anywhere I can get this done at a low cost (I probably only want 5 or 6 t-shirts for myself and my little entourage).

Also, I'd love to arrange a charity auction or something similar, but I really don't know where to start with getting items for the auction. I'm thinking of maybe trying a few local football clubs, TV studios etc. Am I being too ambitious with this? My initial goal is to raise £500 for the charity, but I'd love to raise a lot more than that. How do people feel about using Ebay for charity auctions? I'm thinking that would be the best way to target a large audience, but maybe a function like a charity ball would be more appropriate.

Like I said, I don't really know how to go about organising all this, I am planning to speak to a rep from the charity later today, and I'm hoping she'll be able to help me in some way.

Macmillan Inca Trek 2009

Hi I'm doing the trek for Macmillan Cancer Support in May/June 2009.
I'd love to hear from anyone else who is also going on this - please get in touch.
I would also love to hear from anyone who has already done this and can tell me what to expect.
Also anyone with really good fundraising ideas that they dont mind me copying.
My fundraising is going ok at the mo - to reach my target I need another £2000 - am aiming for £5,000.

Really Struggling People!!

Hi, just wondering if anyone can give me any hints or tips on how to make this big mess i have made wither disappear or turn into something amazing....

My husband has fought and beat testicular cancer twice and to coincide with his 30th Birthday next month I have organised a charity ball. I expected the support of our family and friends, which if i'm completely honest has not lived up to my expectations.

As it stands, with 6 weeks to go before the event, I still have around 50 tickets to shift and although I have some good raffle prizes (please don't think I am ungrateful because I am not - every little helps), I still don't have a star prize which can be used as first prize for the raffle.

I feel completely deflated, and I honestly do not want to carry on, but I have signed a contract with the venue and therefore I am tied to carrying this farce through.

I have sent posters to so many different places, and rang around places asking if they can help, but with every 'no' I feel completely inadequate and lose faith in something which I believe in so much.

Cancer Research UK have been completely useless, I have had no guidance and support from them whatsoever, apart from at the beginning of the year when they paraded my family on the local news, saying how fantastic we were and how lucky they were that people like me put such an effort in to raise funds. Since then absolutely zilch. They have even refused my request for a guest speaker to thank everyone for thier donations on the evening, even for 10 minutes.

Can anyone help in anyway, even just to cheer me up a little and has anything similar happened to anyone else? I just feel so lost at the minute and don't have anywhere to turn for advice.

Freecycle/ebay

I just wanted to pass on a great fundraising strategy that has helped me reach my fundraising target more easily than expected. I advertised on freecycle (as well as asking friends and colleagues) for items to be donated, then sold the donated items on Ebay and at a jumble sale. Obviously I was upfront when asking for things to be donated that I would be selling them on for charity, and people were very generous - donated items included a leather sofa, some rocking chairs, several TVs, a pushchair and countless other items. It involved some running around on my part to collect items, put them on Ebay and then post them, but in the space of 3 weeks I made over £800 from around 55 items.

I also put in the description on Ebay that I was selling the item for charity, and lots of people either paid more than they needed to for the item, or went on to donate to my justgiving page separately. All of these people complete strangers!

I definitely found that, especially at the moment, people are happier to have a clear out and give items to me to sell on, than they were to hand over money.

Now all I have to do is run the marathon that I have been fundraising for...!

Press releases work!

Don't be put off sending out a press release, I used JG's sample press release and within an hour I had my local paper on the phone asking when could they send the photograper round - couple of days later I'm in the paper!!

Cake Sale

Every sunday i am baking a lot of stuff to take into work (NHS) and sell for 50p a peice. last week i made £31 and this week I made £42. I would have made more this week but I dropped a tin of them on the floor. Word spread very quickly about what i was doing and someone even told me 'someones selling cakes for charity in the tearoom. did you know?' !!
Now they are looking forward to it every week and from that I have recieved offers of equipment for the trip rather than money from Disney and a book club that someone is involved with.

Hi all

I am in desperate need for some help! I got this mad idea that I was going to throw a charity black tie ball for macmillan...and now realised I know nothing about it!

Do any of you have any ideas? I really want to do something big for chairty and think this will be perfect, so really dont want to fail!
