Arsenal Boys Get silly for Great Ormond St

The arsenal gang have named Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity as their charity of the season and are doing lots of fun and exciting stuff to help out. You have to look at the video http://bit.ly/2USKi3 of all the players dressed up in silly animals making fools of themselves! Still though, all worth it if we can raise lots of money!

Type 1 Gaucher's disease research study

I am looking to interview Type 1 Gaucher's disease patients for a study I am doing at work on treatments. There is payment for this and so far the people I have been interviewing have been giving their payment to charity so I thought I would put the invitation on here and hope that some patients could get back to me.I need 4 patients who have type 1 and are over 16.

We have just walked up Snowdon twice in a week!!
Myself, my husband and our 3 children and the dog went up and down the Pyg track and then 3 days later went up the miners track and down the train track. What helped us was oxygen drops, a supplement added to our water bottles, it can enhance performance, reduce build up of Lactic acid in the muscles, give an energy boost and give a feeling of general good health. Our youngest daughter is 5 and we didn't have any complaints or whinges!!!

Among the viruses soapy hand washing flushes down the drain is the one that causes the common cold. Other removable viruses cause hepatitis A, acute gastroenteritis and a host of other illnesses.

　　A separate key finding was that waterless handwipes only removed roughly 50 percent of bacteria from volunteer subjects?hands.

　　"We studied the efficacy of 14 different hand hygiene agents in reducing bacteria and viruses from the hands," said Emily E. Sickbert-Bennett, a public health epidemiologist with the University of North Carolina Health Care System and the UNC School of Public Health. "No other studies have measured the effectiveness in removing both bacteria and viruses at the same time."

　　For the first time, too, the UNC researchers tested what happened when people cleaned their hands for only 10 seconds, Sickbert-Bennett said. That represented the average length of time researchers observed busy health-care personnel washing or otherwise disinfecting their hands at work.

　　"Previous studies have had people clean their hands for 30 seconds or so, but that’s not what health-care workers usually do in practice, and we wanted to test the products under realistic conditions," she said.

　　Anti-microbial agents were best at reducing bacteria on hands, but waterless, alcohol-based agents had variable and sometimes poor effects, becoming less effective after multiple washes, Sickbert-Bennett said. For removing viruses from the hands, physical removal with soap and water was most effective since some viruses are hardy and relatively resistant to disinfection.

　　Researchers first had volunteers clean their hands and then contaminated their hands with Serratia marcescens and MS2 bacteriophage. Those are, respectively, a harmless bacterium and virus comparable to, and substituted for, disease-causing organisms. After that, scientists had the subjects clean their hands with various agents and measured how much of the bacteria and virus remained afterwards.

My Internet Fundraising Vehicle

Hi, I'd be interested if anybody would comment and possibly offer any ideas/tips of how I could promote my fundraising idea.
As a web developer, I am working with a team of web developers on a business model that is proving to be very successful.
I want to start a 'Charity' vehicle around this model, which would produce ongoing weekly donations to my chosen charity (and any other charity for that matter).
My website is tied in with the UK and Euromillions Lotteries and offers players a new way of playing either/both lotteries, with a much greater chance of winning. It also allows for 20% of their weekly subscription to be donated to a charity.
This means that I can approach potential players, who are interested in playing this way, whilst donating to a needy cause. It also means that I can help people involved in fundraising to set up their own fundraising vehicle - which offers something a little more long term and ongoing.

I'm a new member and having read a lot of posts on the forums tonight, it seems a vast number of fundraisers encounter the same struggles of capturing the hearts of people to donate to our fundraising causes.

Some comments I have received in the past are

Why should I care, do they care about me
Charity begins at home
I'm not made of money

I'm not perfect but I hope when I'm older, I can reflect back on my life and think I did my bit for a number of charities. Maybe by then I will understand why other people don't really care.

Perhaps anyone else can explain this to me?

I have noticed that my big toe (left foot) has started going black and I think I have a type of blister appearing under my nail. (OUCH). Has anyone on the forum had this injury after a run? Will it heal by itself, will I lose my nail etc etc........

Getting your fundraising page out there

I'm doing the manchester to blackpool bike ride for Christies in July this year.

I'll also be graduating from university and moving 100 miles back from Coventry, leaving all my friends from here either in cov, or to disperse over the country.
My justgiving page has made it possible to ask my friends from here to donate, because I don't have to be around to get cash from people, (as much as I'd love to have an excuse to go party with my friends!) But it's difficult to find a way to let people know of the web address, short of writing it on the backs of their hands.

I thought of making some little cards with the address and a nice picture on them, (I'm doing graphics, so this seems like the obvious answer) but this seems a little bit cheeky. My thought when I got the pack from christies was "this shiny paper wasn't cheap, and the design costs probably weren't either.....remind me, why do they need money again?" I think my friends would think similar.

I've already got the facebook widget, but that's hiding somewhere at the bottom of my profile, and no one can see it.

Has anyone else used justgiving as their main way of collecting before - I confess, all I've used it for was to collect donations from people I only know through the internet, I've never used it to get to real-life people!

Help find a cure for our baby boy

Hi,

My 11 month old son Liam suffers from an extremely rare genetic skin blistering condition. Epidermolysis Bullosa (type is at yet unconfirmed). This condition can be fatal in infancy and causes extreme pain to sufferers. Liam's Dad Alan has just completed the Glasgow half marathon in 1hour 45 mins anlong with some of his friends. We have also held a charity night and myself and my friends are taking part in the glasgow 5k fun run. All to raise funds for the charity debra. Without continual funding to this charity a cure will never be found for this awful condition.
