WFW - informal ride 4th May Isle of Wight
|

Hi girls,
Sarah is booking the two of us up for a ride on May the Fourth (star wars day) think about it!!!!!
Any way if any one else wants to join us the details are:
www.cycleisland.co.uk/index.php?page=home
No entry fee. You'll need to book your own accomodation and ferry and be aiming to doing 10 miles an hourish. (only reason for this is you have to book specific times for the ferry and don't want to leave anyone behind on IOW!) will post more details when sarah and I have had a chat about which port to set off from, where to meet and what time. If you want to come on a group ride, all welcome, post on here but like before mail me your contact details, in case of lateness etc.

We are going from Southampton to Cowes on Red Funnel Ferry leaving Southampton at 8am to arrive at 9am, coming back 5.30pm arrive Southampton 6.30pm. That leaves us 8hrs ish to do 63 miles, that will include registering and stopping for food. There is an etap in Southampton which is probably the cheapest at £32 per room. Not sure if they have a place to store the bike overnight.
Be warned, the IOW has lots of hills, yeh not.
Lots of love

Planning to give the route a go with my sis and mate Doreen joining in too. Gives me butterflies just thinking about it as I know what to expect and it seems youve chosen to do the 100km route. Panic, panic, panic. Deep breathe..... and relax.
Hope everyone is up for a training weekend in the forest at the end of that month too. Burley and New Forest has beautiful rides.

Hi all,
I'll explain star wars day, you have to read it out loud.
"may the fourth be with you" May the 4th get it? I'm rolling all over the floor!
Any how, there are two rides, if anyone wants to do the shorter one and we can meet at the beginning and end So don't worry Elaine and Angie. let me know which one you want to do nearer the time when you've been out a bit more and I'll collate lists. God I'm sad.
Haven't forgotton about new forest, best get that sorted. Is anyone going to volunteer for the route planning on that one, and times to meet etc..........
I'm off for the rest of the week, no more work until next Tuesday, hurray.
Speak soon
Donna

Hi Donna, Sarah and I will organise the new forest meet. New thread started for that one.
Had a nice surprise following my panic earlier about distances of 100km. My mathematical calculations were a bit out on converting Km to miles. I thought it would be over 70 miles. Im afraid I still think mileage on most trips. Also, I have been telling everyone that our average daily cycling in Cuba will be over 60 miles when in fact it is just over 50. I feel much better now. Hi
I would love to come on this one, really do need a boost! Might have to go across as a foot passenger, very little money to spare and no car anyway.

Hi Julz,
Great, I'm going across as a foot passenger. Have a look at the times Sarah posted, she's going to book to leave at 6.30 instead of 5.30. We can all go over together.
The weather should really be picking up for this one, looking like a good response so far. Is there anyone else out there who fancies it, open to all!

It would be great to have you join us Julz.
I've just changed the return booking to 6.30, but the lady said we can come back on any ferry as they don't save places for foot passenger.
The cost is £12 return for foot passengers, there is a car park next to Red Funnel that charge £6 for the day. The ferry I have booked on the way over leaves at 8am.

I've just been on the ctc forum. It sounds like the iow randonee is bloody hard work but fun. Not sure if those two go together. It's a shame they don't have a map that has the smiley or sad faces like we had in Stratford, just so that we can be prepared. We have to be finished by 6pm to get a certificate to say we have done it. I shall definately make sure I have the right knickers for this one, huge great big padded ones. I shall also take my camalbak and lots of jelly babies, if they're good enough for James Cracknell then they're good enough for me. Also mustn't forget the Ibroprufen and Paracetamol. Is there anything else I need to take?
