Hi

Sarah, it was recommended to have the Hep B vaccinations so thought better to be save than sorry. So just having them for the cycle ride. Think Donna is having it as well.

My daughter in law has had a collection tin in her kitchen for a while now and it is full of loose change. Just got to count it all up and bag it to take to the bank. Hope because it is for charity they will accept more than three bags.

Looking forward to seeing you at the yh and Mavis's.

Well I was just going to post to say Aly doing fine and well but hey presto she has got there before me. Lovely to here you are back on line even if it isnt your own Aly. I find myself still taking stock of the half dressed firemen.........

Angie, sorry you arent joining us in Cuba. Hope we still meet up before and I will still keep you in mind when you do the tombola. Still collecting for you and Julz. Doreen and I are doing one next week outside the canteen at the General hospital. We have one of those static bike trainers and lots of collection tins. Sarah, if you end up there with your knee, please ask a porter to push you over to us.

Amanda, will you please slow down, you are exhausting me with your constant training, the roads will be worn out. (I am secrectly envious)

I dunno if you guys remember, but one of the reasons I am doing this Cuba malarky is coz my sister lost her baby when he was 9 months old because of a rare genetic disorder she did not know she carried.
Well, after 3 rounds of PGD (special IVF where they test embryo for the genetic problem before implantation) she is pregnant!!!! 8 weeks so far and feeling crap (which she is very pleased about!)
Without research into this sort of procedure, this would not have happened.

This is why we are doing this guys!!!

Hi Sarah (sezmo) Thats fantastic news. Will keep fingers and toes crossed for her.

Aly why couldn't you have taken a photo of these firefighting gods! we could all do with a 'phew' moment.

Sarah, your not doing too much too soon are you? don't knacker your knee up

Elaine was it you with the tins that you collect change in?

Amanda. £5.00 is more than reasonable for a donation for a meal and entertainment, with all of the proceeds going to charity. Good luck with it, what about the boy with the chest hair?

Yep, am having the hep B, what with my luck, I'm doing all the preventative things to stave off ANYTHING going wrong!!!!! and the doctor is going to sponsor me, she's a star.Have also just had confirmation that the Rugger ball that I sent off is coming back signed by Martin Johnson, yes, my little collection is growing whey hey. All I have to do now is get some more stuff, get somewhere and advertise it and hopefully have loads of bidders!

Well no rest for the wicked off for a 'quick' 10 miles before tea.....

Hi Girls

Thanks to donna mentioning preventative measures it has reminded me of something. Mum just back from Mexico and she got bit like mad by mossis and needed to go to doctor about it as was so bad and he mentioned that tourist should take vitamin B tablets a few days before gong abroad as the mossies don't like it so something to bear in mind and give a try for when we in Cuba.

Hi everyone

Very happy with today. Sold £233 of raffle tickets and my friends had collected £90 in the collection box, £323 altogether, excellent.
I've heard about the vitamin B tablets from someone, must pop to Holland and Barrett, hopefully they'll have 75% off.

Off to do a night shift now.

Sleep well all of you.

Sarah,

that is amazing, fantastic, well done, wow, good on yer. Fingers crossed your disco goes just as well. The only down side is that my chances of winning are narrowed, but I can live with that. Perhaps we should ask holland & barrett for a huge reduction for bulk buying, better than scratching to death. But oh they usually have 75% off anyway!

Mavis and I are going over the routes this weekend. She gets the nice job of driving, I'm the navigator ekks there may be lots of coffee stops on the ride for amanda to decide which way to go.........

Summer is here...but not for long, so enjoy it!

I went out and did 10 miles (including a 1 in 10 hill!) at midday to see what it's like cycling in this sort of heat. The answer is hot and sweaty!! Certainly needed lots of fluid.

I've looked on the internet about vit B and mossies - there seems to be little evidence it works - so I dont know whether to bother! I am one of those people that mossies love to munch on, though, so it might be worth a try!

lol - enjoy the weather before it strats to rain again.... s x

Thanks Donna! At least i got one bit of navigating right in the new forest at the end of the day if left to the others we would have clocked quite a few more miles.

Well done Sarh on the fundraising it is nice when a chunk comes in after being stagnant for a little while, i'm still waiting and hoping for my next chunk.

Got my letter asking if want to do Jordan next year only 2500 needed to be raised! Would love to do the ride just don't want to do the fundraising bit again. Wouldn't it be lovely if that bit was easy and all youu needed to do is concentrate on the cycling.

Shattered today and not done any exercise despite nice weather. Did the night shift tues slept for a couple of hours then got asked if i would work an early this morning soft old me said yes as ward short and hey little bit more for that emergency pot if fundraisers don't achieve target.

looking forward to next weekend
Amanda

you know we would still be out there if it hadn't been for you Amanda

Anyhow, gym at lunchtime, flipping ankle is a pain in the butt, I wonder if the heat makes it swell, any of you nursy bods out there? so was going to go the gym for a little body pump.......

But one disposable bbq and 2 glasses of wine later and body pump was forgotten, can't wait to see you all next week. Just remember to feel sorry for me and Mavis if its really hot on sunday.

If you want to book for the yha in sept they are getting limited in spaces for the sat night so get in there.

Hi Donna

Not actually a nurse as you know but from personal experience and what i se on the wards heat does make your feet swell and even worse if combined with standing up for long period of times.

Why should we feel sorry for you and Mavis i thought you said you were doing the route via carm we may feel a little sympathy if you were on your bikes. Nerves getting bad for me and tomorrow i have this nightmare that i am going to turn up set up our stall and there won't be anyone else there despite all the advertising.

Quieter day on the ward today compared to yesterday it was bedlam in the afternoon and just before end of shift had a delivery which was nice but i have to do an  incident form as although was attended by 2 qualified miswives as it happened on antenatal ward and not delivery suite is is deemed and untoward incident. NHS politics can't half stink

Hope you are all taking advantage of the sunshine i am furious i am yet again working

Amanda

Feel sorry for us because if the weather is as nice as they say we're going to be in a car!

Your car boot will be fine, people love boots and what with good weather your onto a winner, hopefully. Good luck.

Did everyone get the letter today saying the camera crew are coming, I thought Fern was coming without them this time.

Off for a ride now don't know how far I'll get in this heat, my car thermometer said it was 25...........

Hi Donna and all you Cuba ladies!

Fern is taking two viewers with her...like she did when she went to India. They gave the application details out before the summer break.

It'll be good - we will be able to actually see how you got on!

Quite envious of you all...can't believe we have been back from India over 7 months now. A couple of our gang have signed up for Jordan....some of us going on a more sedate barge/cycling holiday in Holland I think, all being well.

Ta ta for now

Hi everyone,
Did a very hot 32 miles today and my knee's fine. Hopefully all I need to do is keep up with the exercises and the deep massage. Next week I think will definately be a test for it.
Going to a carboot sale tomorrow, hoping to get rid of all my rubbish and raise a few quid.
It will be fine tomorrow Amanda, I'm sure lots of people will turn up.
