Hey Amanda

when i went to india i did pay all the extra's myself, but this time our financial situation isnt as good and one of the bargaining tools to go was that i needed to raise all the money and not have to use any of 'our' money

i have covered the cost of child care etc by selling books etc and my cigarette money, and not actually used sponsorship money thats gone straight into the pot,
and to be honest at the end of the month im lucky to have £3. let alone £300

im sure ill cover it, carboot sales & maybe some more book stalls, well see im not a defeatist, honest!!

i havnt enjoyed the sun as have been at work 'caring' all day too!!

Yeah, I know that flight supplement is really horrendous, what does it all go towards, perhaps the cabin crew have a party with the extra that we send them!

Amandae, don't be too put out about the local paper thing, i did India last year and have yet to hear of anyone getting anything from such an article in the way of money, and yet lots of ladies had articles done, including myself last year.Nice thing to have as part of your scrapbook but thats about all. i would recommend meeting up and training with anyone who lives near by though, I couldn't have done it without my training partner Lisa, who lives near to me and yet I didn't know her before signing up for the challenge.

As for your flight supplements, what a horrendous amount !I think ours was about 120 pounds, I don't think people sponsoring, realise how much a challenge like this costs you personally, with supplements, cycling gear, injections, training weekends, etc etc... best not to even try to add it all up!!

hey... yes I too got a huge shock when I saw how extra we are going to have to pay!! And yes people definitely do not realise the personal expenditure! They just hear Cuba and think free holiday... If only they took note of all the extras aye! Perhaps we should itemise on our fundraising pages. Even without the additional cost for those who pay the costs of flight themselves! If I had to pay that as well there is no way on earth I would be able to do this!

And no I got nothing as a result of a local newspaper article. But I do use the fact it is being done to encourage people to donate services etc! So in that way it helps. I am doing another to cover my Cuban night in September. All set for that now, hall booked, Salsa Dancing sorted, food kind of decided on! Tickets on their way, and posters printed. Will wait now though until after my hols to force it down peoples throat as its way to far in advance to get people keen.

We will get there, and help each other along the way, and look back after and wonder what all the fuss was about.. (perhaps) Huh? [:^)]

Hi

I am also very shocked at the hugh increase in the fuel supplement. Lets hope that they do not put it up again.

Donna, that would be some party, perhaps they will invite us along seeing we will be funding it.

Had a great cycle ride on Saturday with Janne,(apologies if not spelt right) Marvis and Donna through the very hilly Leicestershire countryside. All good training.

Not far off my target now but will have to think of some more fund raising events to pay for all the extras.

When you started did you think you'd get this far? I know i did'nt. I don't know how i'll find the extra airport tax money BUT i'll bloody try my hardest...i'm not given up this without a fight. I don't dare look in my diary to count the weeks till deadline.

Anyway on a lighter note. I done my carboot sunday BOY was that interesting...i know they say that one persons tat is anothers treasures but all the stuff i guessed would go did'nt and all the other stuff flew from the table. I had a bloke come and try some high healed shoes on but...................................they where too small !!!!!!!!! I got £58 so not bad i'll do another in aug - can't say i enjoyed the half five start!

I'm looking forward to stratford in Aug...Is anyone still staying at YH friday night after mavis's?

Sarah - are you the same as me - relying on getting the rest of your money from your night in sep - hows it going?

Donna - Got lost a bit - i know nothing unusual - booked what for next year - are you doing another cycle ARE YOU MAD!!!!! Although i must say your zooming past this target GOOD FOR YOU.

Love to everyone else, oh where is jane and sue.....come on (i know, i know kettle black and all that)

Hi everyone,

Sarah, Yes, me, Deena, Amanda and Sarah are at the YH on Friday, I'll be dropping my stuff off at the hostel before going onto Mavis's. It might be good if we could go in one or two cars.

Not not planning on another ride, but..... if I do an event every year for charity, then kind of puts a bit back for hopefully not too much effort this time. People know what they like and they had a good time this year so I'm hoping it will go well.

£58.00 is really good at booting because they all seem to want something for nothing! How's the tickets sales going?

Are you back yet Sarah M.

Yes where is Sue, know Janey's ok cos was cycling with her on Sat.

Trying to get out more on the bike, planning on starting early mornings soon, if I can drag my sorry butt out of bed at 6ish.........

That airport tax was a bit of a suprise. If anyone says we're off on a free holiday, think I may have to resort to violence.

Hmmm, just been off to a salsa class, lets just say that it was interesting!

Hi girls,

Its just taken me about half an hour to catch up on the posts, I've not visited you all for so long......................I don't know where the time has gone................3 months to go, aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!

Everyone sounds like they are doing really well, well done girls!

I'm starting to really enjoy going out on my bike, although not going out half as much as I would like to! And the Devon hills are certainly getting my legs used to some slight undulations!!

fundraising is another matter......I've still got £1000 to raise.........I don't know if I can do it?? I'm holding a disco in Aug but does anyone have any other ideas that worked for them?? I've asked hubby to have his leg waxed, but he's refused............I even resorted to offering him ANYTHING in return, and he still refused!!! what can a girl do?? I hate the thought of going cap in hand asking for actual sponsorship, but I may have to resort to that!

Lorraine, how are your plans for the ball going............is everything coming together??

anyway, keep up the good work, speak soon,

Nicky xxxx

Hi everyone,
Yes I'm back, had a lovely hols except for my knee. Went out for a 30miles cycleride, most of it flat in the Loire valley, beautiful. The last 5 miles my knee became so painful I was cycling one legged, luckily you can do that will cleats. Couldn't walk when I got back, had to hop everywhere. Looked a bit of a sight when I tried to get into the shower, got one leg in but unable to get the other one in, stood there crying like a baby.
Yes i am relying on the disco in Sept to help raise funds. I am hopefully selling some raffle tickets at my friends shop, they're having a Pimms day at their jewellery shop.
Good idea to meet up before going to mavis. What time are you planning to get there.
It's a shame they're unable to pay for the flights now, usually when it's all paid for the airport taxes don't tend to go up anymore.
Off to bed now, had a busy day at work.

Ok girls,

Don't know how this would pan out, but what about a garden party. Get a small support team (mum, aunty etc ) bake cakes (ask support team to bring cakes), make sandwiches, cups of tea. Sell tickets for £5.00 for a sunday (or whatever day you want) to either friends neighbours that sort of thing. Have an afternoon tea in your garden, people always want to nose in your garden, borrow tables and chairs. Sort of thing you could sell to the people in your road. Some ladies did this for me last time and people just popped in and out but paid their £5 up front they made just over £70.00 after costs. If you want to expand it you could offer books for people to bring and donate books for you to sell (like a book exchange) only you get the profits and they have something to chat about.

Do you know I might just have talked myself into something.........

Nicky what sort of events would be convient for you with your little ones? indoor /outdoor/group? We could all rack our brains for you.

Hey Sarah, nice to hear from you, what are you doing about your knee?

Hi Donna

Off to see the physio at the hospital this afternoon. Trouble is my knee is absolutely fine at the moment. I was going to go out for a bike ride this morning to get it aching a bit but I must have slept strangely last night as I can't move my neck this morning.

Good idea with the garden party, will need to have a good old sort out in my garden first though.

Hi girls,

Donna - I don't know, really, I guess I can consider most things, although stalls etc during daytime are a nightmare!! how has everyone else made big chunks of money??

Can't believe how much we have to pay for fuel surcharge.............aaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Is anyone else going on the training weekend? Where are you staying, I'm having trouble finding anywhere reasonable in price! Can't wait to meet you all, although I guess I will only see your backs as you'll be speeding on ahead!!

enjoy the sun

Hi Girls just caught up with all the posts as not been home for a while and not managed a sneaky at work.

Done 26.5 miles this morning going to have lunch then off again to try for 40 miles in total. Might be a bit adventurous as not done mucgh exercise for a while though i did manage about 18 miles after work on monday.

Angie - I didn.t mean to sound as if i was critisising or anything like that its just i never thought of it the way you have and mentally prepared myself for a big payout for the fun( ha ha ha) of cycling 370km. Hence doing the extra shifts, initially to reach target if other fundraisers don't get me there or for all the extras.

Nicky i am combining the training weekend with a camping holiday so staying at a campsite in Chipping Norton which is not too far away and then driving in each day.
Got another fundraiser sorted. Got the use of one of the staff car parks sun 21st to hold a car boot sale hopefully weather will be kind to me and loads odf peope will come and pay me their dosh!

Sarah sorry to hear about your knee you are not having much luck. Maybe we should ask if we can have a tandem in Cuba so we can take it turns to put you on the back so you don't need to do as much work. Bagsy not doing the steep incline though maybe Donna will volunteer that bit seeing as she loves hills so much!!!!

Off for a bit of lunch
speak soon
Amanda

Gutted, will be without you, but thought you might. Give Nurse Gladys all my love especially now, though at least with her you'll have special cream, wasn't about to cry earlier but am almost in tears now. But GOOD LUCK. You so better keep in touch.

Sarah, are we going to have to trundle you round? quick get it sorted, I can't do hills you all know that!

Amanda, I hate hills, you know it should be me on the back of a tandem, on no front because the back person does all the work so I've been told.

Nicky, I'm going to stick my neck out and recommend the teddy bear picnic again because I so think that would be a good one to do. You probs get the drift but if you want more mail me.

Off now before I blart....

Donna xx
