Angie.. you chatterbox tonight.. lol I got my tickets in the form of postcards from vistaprint, also got a smaller t-shirt & cap with my web address on it. That is where I got the website from too. Free 1 month trial then £5 a month thereafter. If you sign up through quidco you get an extra £2 cashback. I have totalled nearly £100 now in cashback from signing up to things or buying through it.

You have lots organised.. well done you. You'll reach your target easy.. keep up the good work  xx

Hi Elaine

Sorry am working today so i never have time for a early log on. As expected most people was all talk and did not turn up. However there was 6 ladies and Iain even came across and had a back massage and managed to raise £80 so not too bad i think. A couple of the ladies was asking if it will happen again and of course it was up to Leesha the main beautician who says she is more than willing to do it again but would do it with just the students next time as unfair to ask the other full time beauticians to give up another night. I did buy them a bottle of wine each but they declined them so will probably put them in a raffle if i don't drink them myself.

Was thinking all positive yesterday as booked the place for the karoke night but unfortunately the date we picked to coincide with pay day in august to give time for advertising etc the girl who was going to do it is on holiday so that looks like a no go. The social club had also offered to do me a quiz night but the one in Sept is for someone else despite them saying last month the next one was meant for me and offered one in Oct if i am still intersted. |I of course said yes cos everything even after the deadline is something.

Received a beautiful patchwork quilt made by the local sewing club which i am hoping to raffle off on the ward with a few other prizes. It is the size of a single bed and suitable for any age not just babies so should get other people interested aswell as new mums.

Anyway i better stop rabbiting on and go and do a bit of work, the ward at the moment though is quite pleasant better make the most of it

Amanda

Fundraising idea
Reply Quote
Hi girls

Just thought I would let you know about a fund raising idea my friend and I have had. We purchased some money box tins at the local cash and carry. They are tins with no lid (you have to open them with a tin opener when finished). We have given them out to friends, family etc. and asked them to fill them over the next few months with loose change like 5ps, 2ps and 1ps. We think the tins will hold about £20 and we have given out about 15 which will be about £300 for absolutely no outlay (the tins where 60p each). Everyone dumps loose change out of their pockets daily and everyone we asked to have a tin thought it a great idea as they are donating money without even realising.

The tins had cartoon charaters on but we just covered then with a little flyer that we made up on computer and they looked really good.

Regards

Lesley

Hi Girls

Been making everyone feel guilty about not coming on monday night and during the discussion one of our student midwives (a male variety by chance) mentioned if he knew he could have come he would have loved a back massage and during the conversation it transpired that he had a hairy back and chest. This of course led me to ask him as he was willing to be waxed to raise money and he said YES!!!! Thing is he says he won't do it for less than £200 so as many people have to pay up. Of all the people asked up to yet they have said they would love to pay £5 to inflict a bit of pain on poor Ricky so looking promising. We sound an evil bunch don't we. I had been tempted to try this idea since someone else said what a success they had but not known a gullible - sorry willing man to do it. He is getting loads of stick already. I am looking forward to this one. HEHEHE!!!

Party!!! [<:o)] Chest waxing & money boxes
Reply Quote
Hi Lesley,

What a fantastic idea, I do this all the time at home, but never thought about turning it into a fund raising thing. The simple ones are always the best. Really good luck with it. Don't know who I could ask as don't have a huge family, and they along with close friends have done so much already.

Amanda, you might have known it would be me who got someone to have their chest waxed. Is there a pub or somewhere you could do it, where people could also donate at the waxing? I also got people to pay more to actually pull small strips off themselves under the supervision of the waxer. The lad that did it for me raised £180.00. but there is so much more in it than that!!!!! Good luck and get him to do it soon before he changes his mind.....

Oh, I did write yesterday to congratulate you on the massage night but the computer dumped everything.

I've started to ask people at work to sponsor me now, so hopefully should get some more sponsorship online. Can't believe we only have 4 months to go

Amanda, shame you felt you were not well supported for the pamper but at least you made some profit. Result. Bet those that didnt turn up are kicking themselves now. Waxing strips...brave man, get the entonox ready for him.
Lesley, good idea. If anyone cant get the cans another option is to use a smartie tube. Hand the full tube out and ask for it to be returned with 20p's or £1's inside. Small outlay for big return if it works. Has anyone tried this one?
Rotten weather isnt it?
How is it in Scotland Aly? Are you still about?
Thinking of you hitting the mountains. X E

Email [E] Rain, rain
Reply Quote
Hey girls,

Is anyone managing to get out in between showers?

Felt quite lucky last night, did 13 miles and didn't get rained on once. well maybe the odd spot. I thought it's supposed to be nice in July.

Off to the local railway club tonight to try and book a date for a disco next year.... I know mad or what!

In two days we will be down to 3 months till we go, how exciting, if only it would stop raining....

Amanda, has your fellow midwife def commited to being waxed yet?

Elaine & Doreen, how much did the Solent ride raise for charity this time? kept meaning to ask and kept forgetting and how are your bruises going, did you milk them for sponsorship?

Angie & Julz how are your Cuba nights going, you must be bouncing loads of ideas off each other.

Yes he is a definate for being waxed he says. Mentioned the idea on the ward about doing it in a pub and was wondering which one to do and our nice ward clerk mentioned the name of poor Ricky's local for whom he plays football and they have a darts team so that looks quite promising. He got realy worried with this suggestion and said that if it was meant for the pleasure of the midwives they may not prefer that idea bu oh no so many have said that if they can't make it on the day they are willing to pay the money anyway. I have promised photographic evidence also and gues who and his mates from uni is on facebook - god i am an evil so and so.

Glad to have received confirmation letter about cotswold training as i was getting a little worried.

I have the fternoon free after someone has been to house so hopefully weather will stay dry for a bike ride as foot now getting little better. Oh yes forgot to tell you latest injury good intentions went to gyn on thurs as managed to finish work early went over on ankle and twisted it so no gym and have been good girl to help mending process stayed off bike. I am so jynxed it is unbelievable as i have only managed 1 time in gym this week and itching to do something.

Angry [:@] W4W LETTER RECEIVED?
Reply Quote
Hi Guys

who else got there letters from w4w with flight details etc?

I was shocked that we have to pay £356 airport tax!! on top of the fundraising!! and after we paid £250 deposit!!

this is turning out to be incredibly costly for me as i have to raise all these extra's on top of the £3,000

i have to cover childcare, unpaid leave, transport to etc.etc.etc. which means if i total it all up i need to raise about £5,000!!!
I know everyone else is in the same boat, but i was just about thinking i can scrape it through the last events and now? :0(

i am so disheartened... I am seriously now considering delaying till next year...

I cannot see how i can get all this cash in...
do miracles really happen??????????????

Hi Angie

I know how you must feel but i never thought of actually raising the money from sponsorship for the additional bits i had always assumed that was coming out of my pocket - what is everyone else doing?

My upset today is that it is apparant someone from Plymouth is on the March ride and she has beat me to getting an article in the local paper - fantastic for her but my fault for leaving it so late in contacting them. I thought if i did it too far from event thay may not be interested. Brilliant thing to come from it hopefully is that i may be able to contact her and get to meet for training

Hope everyone is atking advantage of the sunshine today guess where i am - working long day again and i didn't manage that ride yesterday as person being waited for didn't come till late and a great big black cloud descended over plymouth

Off to do some "caring"

Amanda

xx
