Selling event tickets - advice please
Reply Quote

OK... I've organised a charity evening for next month, am having it catered, have arranged for entertainment, am planning on a raffle AND even have a A list celebrity as the guest speaker (an Oscar winner no less!).  But... I have yet to sell a single ticket.  It's only been a couple days since I started emailing, posting letters, handing out the details to friends, local schools, businesses & posting flyers, and I gave a local newspaper an interview yesterday (to be printed yet), but I feel so bummed out as I thought I would have had people snapping them up - or starting to, by now..  Everyone is impressed with the guest and the evening is for the charities I support - which a lot of people know I do a lot for anyway. The price of the tickets is affordable, so I don't know what is holding them back. It is not a black tie event.  Do people tend to wait until just before the event because they think it is too far off to think about just now?  I'm just worried that people will have x-mas parties for work booked and other plansm but unfortunately, it was the only date I could do to get the special guest to come.  What is the best way to publicise these things & sell tickets?  My worst nightmare is that no one will come.  My husband doesn't think this will be the case and he is going to help me go at it over the weekend with phoning his contacts.

What have other people experienced? Is it a slow process that comes on all of a sudden?

Hi there,

I had a similar problem with one i did - alot will come right at the end.

But what you could try is give friends and family a few tickets and get them to sell them to their friends, family, co - workers etc. That can get alot of tickets sold.

Hope al goes well.

Did it work out in the end?  Did you manage to sell tickets? Could you give me any tips of anything you would have different?  Do you feel it was worth all the effort you put in to organising an event ?

Feedback would be good for us fundraisers !  Thanks

Sharon
