Hi Donna

The ex marine by the way is pretty fit in more ways than one if i dare say that. But then again we are only human and there is no harm in looking and admiring!!!!

Got a reply from YH saying room booked but stated number in party as being one so sent email questioning this as i had specified to be booked with the women for women group so hopefully they just mean it is only one that has been put on my actual booking and i will be bunking in with everyone else and not put in a different room cos that will be really weird bunking in with complete strangers.

As for the fitness i am getting pretty pleased with myself but after what i have done on the last 3 days i am glad to be at work for a bit of a rest but am swaying towards going to gym for short time when i finish work despite being pretty weary. You never know the ex marine might be in  - better viewing than the rubbish on the TV. Only joking, i love my Iain to bits just a shame he isn't more active and inclined to going to the gym with me.

Leesha says there is quite a few people interested in my pamper night so fingers crossed.

Better go and do a little work before finishing

Amanda

Cuba night needs major attention...
food stalls are ok pretty easy planning, just cook and sell..

I really need some good fundraising ideas other than raffles to do on the cuba night
people down here are really feeling the credit crunch and are fed up of putting hands in pocket so need small things that people will have fun doing?

Hi Angie, a simple idea to raise funds is a tombola. When I last did one I asked everyone I knew if they could donate small gifts. Nearly everyone has sale bargains that they then never used, or small presents that have stayed in cupboards, smellies etc. You could then top prizes up with little bags of sweets or wrap some homemade biscuits. Put cloakroom tickets on everything. Charge £1 to pull a number and hey presto you have a profit. If you work on the premis that there is a prize everytime then folks seem to part with their cash much easier. The initial outlay by you is minimal if anything. When are you doing the Cuba night? I might be able to put together a few small prizes for you to use. I plan to do a tombola myself at the end of the month. Im going to wrap my prizes in pinks and purples paper or cellophane to make the table attractive and give it the added mystery of prize recognition.
Girls, if Angie decides to give this a go could any of you with unwanted goodies please forward to her. Every little helps. And it also declutters to make room for the next Xmas / birthday / sale bargain.
X Elaine

hey elaine , great idea 'you are a star!!
im planning the cuba night for august end, depenedent on the rugby clubs availability
im doing it august end as the 1st team will be back in training and am hoping that they will all come... and when they are well lubricated they tend to part with their money....
i have been on pc all morning getting idea's for cuban night...
the second food stall i have booked at a fun day is cuban themed so will give me opportunity to try different foods and promote the cuba night....wont sell food on night will do it as part of ticket price, cant be arsed to try to sell food as well as doing everything else.
i need to clear a grand profit, heavy going in this neck of the woods, the average fundraiser at the club usually makes about £400
but am hoping work mates etc will come along...
Julz is also doing a cuba night so we are going to organise ours in unison via email..
so any help for julz as well would be appreciated im sure

im happy to offer to support to anyone else if i can

I WANT TO BE ON THAT PLANE.....

Ok Angie, Julz ,

What have you got planned? and are you doing tombola's?

Don't forget to include the roll the £1.00 that Aly suggested. I raised about £60.00 on that one alone.

I'm hoping to organise a pole dancing lesson at the hotel one of the guys wives is a teacher, have to check our public liability insurance at work first see if it'll be covered. Julz you work at a club don't you, have you thought of belly dancing evening, girls love that sort of thing! I'm racking brains this weekend to see what I can think of, does anyone else have any top money spinning ideas?

Got to go at work so might as well do some

Hi ya

officially confirmed the hall now, and Salsa man Colin @ justdance salsa has kindly agreed to do some taster salsa sessions during the evening. There is a sound system there whichis all rigged up and holds 5 CD's, so ok for music without having to fork out for a DJ! There is cooking facilities and the other chef at Ye Olde Whyte Harte today offered to cook me a Caribbean curry on the night after I showed him my flyer. Landlord said he'll be there so personal licensee sorted for distribution of booze!

I would like to do a tombola as raffles have to depend on being able to get decent prizes, I don't know what to put on it!! So far I have only 2 .. 1 manicure donated by my nail technician,  and a great cycle top which I got through this morning from the makers of a Pinot Grigio called Cycles Gladiator .. very nice long sleeve, zip up top it is.. must be £80 worth I reckon. They also sent me a t-shirt with their logo on, requesting a photo wearing it in Cuba. Logo is to the left of this message.

I will also see about doing the £1 roll... how do I do that one? I know you have said but I forgot! Need to do a couple of things to keep people occupied whilst waiting for the Salsa session.

I doubt the club would go for belly dancing... being a working man's club the only belly's dancing are full of beer... Stick out tongue [:P] The club generally have been incredibly unhelpful, so gave up trying to do anything there.

I do have a non uniform day at my 5 yr old's school, but they cant fit a cake sale in until after the summer now.. grrrr!

Got work again tonight so best be off to get some tea on, weight has started to come off now which I am verrryyyy happy about.. only 3.5 stone left to shift .. at least its going in the right direction now though.

How's everyone else doing?

Julz xx

Hi girls,

Julz, roll the £1. Bottle in middle of floor. everyone rolls £1. you pick them up as you go along, leaving the one closest to the bottle. Aly is right the person who's rolled the nearest keeps their eye on their own £1 and know if its theirs or not. you do a lot of running round on this one!

I've just had my first comment thrown at a car window today whilst out cycling. Young lad shouts out his mums window 'I love marmite too' I have this fab marmite cycling top from foska.com. thinking of getting a Denis the menace one next.

Hi Girls
I am not a happy bunny. I am starting to panic now. Saw the manager that promised that nice cheque that would take me nicely over target and she informed me that i shouldn't rely on it as the thics committee that is meant to be giving it me has dispanded as there ispreoblems with the government wanting to geet involved with these comittees as pay the people rather than having the pharmaceutical companies giving to charity. The chairman of the committe feels strongly against this and wants it to carry on as a non payment thing and the money to go to charities so has dispanded it. She did however say that the July cheque i.e mine should be the last one if it comes through. God i have started having the sleepless nights again trying to think what i can do at such a late stage to raise my remaining amount. I am going to have to try and work as many extra shifts as i can and still try and fit in training.

Any way less of feeling sorry for myself i don't care how many extra shifts i do I AM GOING NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!Too much of a worthwhile cause not to. And you lot ain't having all the fun without me HEHEHE.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow night for me.I have just been shopping to buy nibbles and things and i will putting on a little buffet making it more of a party atmosphere. People may be then tempted to have more than one treatment.

Off to have lunch and watch Grand Prix

Speak to you all soon
Amanda

Hi
My name is Lesley - am travelling to Cuba in March 09 with my friend Michele. We knew the fund raising would be difficult but did not realise how hard!!

We are struggling at the moment but have a few nites coming up ie. Wine and cheese nite and a charity night at local rugby club with music, food and raffle planned.

It is really good to read through everyone elses trials and tribulations and to get ideas!

Will keep logging in to see how you are all getting on !

Wishing you a successful evening Amanda. Sorry to hear about your uncertainty with funds but try not to stress too much. We wont leave without you.

Julz, checked your website, good idea, everything is coming together and I am so pleased for you. I will let you know how many tickets shortly. I shall do whatever I can to help, collecting for a tombola myself at moment which I hope to do on a bit of a promotion day at the canteen in the General hospital at the end of this month. After that I will get onto collecting for you and Angie. I think you should consider holding a raffle too with your more expensive prizes. Putting a hamper together is a good one. Von can get hold of baskets at trade prices, just need to get friends to donate items for it.
Cant wait to have a Salsa taster.... dont sell out all your tickets before end of week please. X Elaine

Hey ..

welcome to the march 09 girls.. this site has been wonderful for me having struggled bigtime with motivation for the fundraising, would have given up by now without the verbal kicks up the backside from the fellow Cuba cyclists... you will get there, at least you have each other to bounce ideas off too.

Elaine .. you are funny! Although I have had a lot of interest, I can't see them selling out anytime soon. Not going to put the flyers up until after I get back from holiday as people will think it's too far off to worry about it then forget all about it by the time it comes round. The hamper idea is great, if I get any big prizes I'll think about a raffle too. Need to send out my begging letters to local businesses, or even walk around asking if I can muster up the guts to!

Good luck Amanda.. you'll be fine! We all have our moments when it all seems too much, but then we get focused again and suddenly something happens. A4C have said they would stretch the deadline so long as we have a certain amount in to get flights booked etc, so that takes the pressure off a little.

I will be asking my boss if there is any way I could borrow his campervan for the Cotswolds meet, then wouldn't need to worry about accomodation. If I do manage to get it for the weekend, and anyone this way wants to share I can pick them up en route!

Julz x

hey julz

good going,by coincidence i contacted colin @ justdance to do my night also, good sign?lets hope so...

my fundraising plan so far is:

18:07:08 BBQ STALL AT SONS END OF TERM SCHOOL BBQ

27:07:08 CUBAN FOOD STALL & BOOK STALL AT RUGBY CLUB FUN DAY.

09:08:08 BOOK STALL AT LOCAL CARBOOT/TABLE TOP SALE.

08:08 CUBAN PARTY NIGHT AT RUGBY CLUB. [awaiting confirmation of 1st teams dates as cant have hall if away team at club!!] am thinking maybe of turning it into a 70's night as watched cool programme about 70's and want to dress up!!!

also found out that one of my cousins is a director of a small firm so was really cheeky and asked if they would sponsor me, the answers probably no but hey a girl can only ask...

todays been eventfull ended up at childrens hospital A&E with youngest son!! culmination of 48 hrs of bad tummy & temp..[ 48 hours of no sleep on top of an 18 hour latenight shift!! for me], 5am this morning he was hallucinating through the temp , it was so scary.... turns out he has 'Mesenteric Adenitis'!! hmmmm, thats what i thought? laymans ternms means he has a viral infection in his lymph nodes , in lower abdoman, which makes them inflammed, which gives him tummy cramps, temp , head ache and sore throat!! nice one son..

havnt managed to get to morrisons to book date yet, but have week off between jobs so am planning on doing lots including cycling!!

Claire l' do you get weekdays free? fancy a flat cycle ride, was thinking 3 miles with a liquid lunch in between to break up the ride?

only joking!!
