How about Paypal?
Reply Quote

You know, it would be nice if when people go to my page to sponsor me, instead of having to find a credit card and type numbers in, they could just use Paypal. That's available even to people who don't have credit cards, and it involves less hassle once you're on-line anyway. What do you reckon, could that be given as an option? I've actually watched people reach the "fill in the numbers" page, and decide they can't be bothered to go searching round the house for a credit card, they just stop at that point.

Hi Jane, welcome to the forums.

In regards to your question about Paypal - the short answer of why we don't accept Paypal donations is because it's not cost-effective for the Justgiving site. We have our own payment engine, and have negotiated some very reasonable transaction rates with our banking service, Barclays. We are able to pass these savings on to our charity clients, and keep our service fees low.

We have looked into using Paypal in the past, but their service charges are higher than our own, and we'd have to pass these higher charges on to our charity clients, which is something we just don't feel comfortable doing.

Just so you know, we have set up the system so that you can choose to save your payment card details if you have a Justgiving account. This means that users only have to input their card details once if they decide to save their details.

I hope this answers your question.

Warm regards,

Elizabeth

paypal are  not as good as  you may think, in my opinion they are too number based and lacking any personality and customer support is a bit of a minefield trying to get a direct resolution to any problem so i reckon best not to involve them.

I agree with Jason, their small print is rubbish and it is near impossable to talk to someone.  I lost some money on ebay while trying to buy something and paypal go on about £500 payment protection.  They said they managed to recover 50p out of the £28 I paid for something!!!!  You'd think if the person I was paying was a crook they would just reverse all the transactions, but instead I lost my money and paypal gave me 50p compesation!  I couldn't for the life of me talk to someone let alone receive an email that wasn't automated.

Hi. You could reconsider this because Paypal is so much easier on an "impulse purchase" like this. I was just about to sponsor someone, realised that you didn't accept Paypal and dived out and got on with other things. Question is, would your charity client prefer nothing or something -5% (or whatever)?
