Hi Julz and Everyone
There is no way I want to sit on a saddle today! A new saddle is definitely on the shopping list. You looked very comfortable Julz and I am sure if we were not actually passing your house, you would have been able to carry on. We got back to Lymington at 9.45pm to a wonderful welcome and the presentation of a medal. I am really pleased I did it! Maybe we could persuade our guides in Cuba just to ride every other day! I think I just have to keep up the training and my bum will become permanantly numb! Well done everyone and thanks to Elaine's husband Malcolm for organising it all.

Well girls I think it is safe to say that that was the longest day of my life yesterday. Thank you Sarah for not slapping me at the finish as I was bruised enough. WELL DONE everyone. If its any consolation my daughter tells me that Ann from AFT thought that the ride was tougher than any single day we will find on the Cuba challenge. So, eased off with the training today and did not go for another 40 miler as originally planned. X E

That's good to know Elaine, if Cuba was anything like yesterday I would give up now. How are the bruises today? How is your knee Sam, it didn't help missing the turning at the end. I'm not going upstairs at the moment, it really hurts to come back down, I have to do a little sort of hop and jump. May have to start bum shuffling down, ouch no, that bit hurts as well.

Hey Girls!!
You know, there are days when you think to yourself "have I bitten off more than I can chew with this Cuba malarky", then you have training days like yesterday, then see all the posts from people that couldn't make it and it just seems to lighten the mood again!! However, I will be making sure that I don't go off zooming down those hills by myself again in case I loose everyone!! Typical me, I saw a blicking bike light ahead and assumed that it was one of us and followed them into Lymington Town. It was only when they turned into a driveway that the penny dropped!! Luckily I turned round in time to see Sarah waving at me on her way home!! - thank you!! The knee's doing better thanks. I found that if I didn't go any higher than 1:3 in gears then it didn't hurt as much.
Wasn't the shower / bath at the end just the best that you've ever had!! How are all the bruises??
Not on the bike today (Doreen, I see that Elaine forgot your little trip for today - phew!!) but just checked the weather for tomorrow so looks like I'm cycling to work ... that big hill just before I reach the village where the office is won't seem the same after Strawberry Lane!! Lane my A$% !!![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
Well, hope everyone is recovering well and that your fete went well Donna.
Sam. x

Ok, well now I'm really gutted at not being able to make it and share bruises! Why are you all mentioning bruises? what happened? come on I need a whole story!
Sounds like you had a really good ride. Fantastic. Well done all. Sam did you have anymore punctures?
Did Von make it? and how's her back?
Did the ride really go past your house Julz? Excellent.
My fete day was feted with good fortune after taking out costs it came in at about £85.00 not bad as there weren't half as many people as usual. The rain cleared up just after the fete started, people always want to win wine!
Have just completed a sponsored 5 mile walk around the local resi with Deena and her friends and reli's for her fund raising efforts. Was a lovely but blowy walk round.

Hi.. yes it did go past my house... good thing for me stopping early to take my mum out for tea, but yes I would have managed the whole 66 miles if it hadn't gone that way. Next year start there so I don't get tempted to drop off again!
Found the perfect excuse for drinking Pinot now.. found one in my local co-op called Cycles Gladiator ![Drinks [D]](/emoticons/emotion-46.gif)
I was so lucky not to get any punctures or bruises! At least I know I can do the distance now, but the hills nigh on killed me!
Elaine can explain all her bruises.. hope you are ok

No, no punctures this time Donna, I was so relieved!! Well done with the fete. You're doing so well on the fundraising, I don't know where you get the energy from!!
However, I have just been to the quacks about 2 ugly black bites on my knee and have been told that they're infected mozzie bites and the swelling is probably from all the sweat that irritated it on Saturday - his remedy?? to REST it. REST IT, I can't REST IT!! Because the swelling behind the knee is now bigger than my palm size now if I cycle it will squish all the fluid into more areas. YUCK!! and BOO!! I was just getting into the swing of things!!
O speaking of knees, I texted Lindsey yesterday. You'll be glad to know nothing broken, just badly bruised and plenty of cuts. She think she'll be back on the bike in a few days so that's good news!!
Sam.

Hi
Just like to say thankyou to Donna for coming on my sponsored walk around Draycote with me yesterday. It was an extremely windy day but we battled round. I think that I will have collected £600 plus towards my target.
I am looking forward to the weekend in August so that I can get to meet some more of you and get to know you before Cuba.

Feeling refreshed

I was just thinking back to Saturday and putting into perspective the challenge we took on despite our problems with joints. I hope you are all proud of yourselves. Today has been difficult as it felt like I had been hit by a sledge hammer. I expect the adrenolin was still running previously. My bruises are amazing. Despite the tenderness I have been out on my bike today and enjoyed a little cycle into Beaulieu in the New Forest and sat and had a drink in the garden. It was a lovely, I then had a lift home.
Sam, I remembered you also had nasty bites the last time in the New Forest. I think you need to put the mossies off your blood. Von said you should try taking vitB1. She started taking it 2 years ago when she used to feed the mossies herself. She has not been touched by them since. Might be worth a try.
Sarah and Lindsey, I hope your knees soon recover.
Everyone else, it appears from the mail that it has been a fruitfull weekend. Well done to you all.
Will now have to prepare for my challenge tomorrow in working a 14hour shift. I may have to confiscate a patients bed though. Happy cycling everyone. X E

Hey Deena,
Thats a fab amount, will meet up so that I can hand over my sponsorship.
Elaine,
Will you please tell me what happened and why you are all so bruised.......
Someone talk to me tell me the story so that I can picture it ........please.......
Sarah, did you manage to see anyone about your knee?
Sam, at least you didn't get puntures! you could always try the skin so soft original as well. Did you get bitten on the friday night when you used it?
Right, making myself go to the gym, don't want to tonight...... I want wine. think I'm turning into a lush.
Has anyone heard from Sarah B?

Sam, I hope your knee feels better soon, it doesn't sound very nice. How long will it take to get better?
Elaine has a lovely big bruise on her chest and under her arm. Elaine will have to give you the details as I wasn't there. I think the rest of us mainly have bruises on the back of our legs from getting the bike on and off the ferry's. The back of my right leg looks black. I went today to see the physio about my other knee. The one she has been working on is brilliant. The other knee seems to have a slightly different problem, we're just not sure what it is. My husband and I (ooh, don't that sound posh)went out for about a 16mile cycle ride this morning and I could hardly walk afterwards.
Haven't heard from Sarah B, Jane or Aly, where have they all gone?
I've already started on the wine, hic! it's lovely.

Hi guys,
Apologise for nto beeing on but flat out at home with b£b and workk. Usual moans no staff so working loads of extra shifts.
I have read all the postings so I am up to scratch with all your goings on.
I am plodding on with the training and doing what I can when I can. Fundraising no problem .
I hope everyone doing great and I cant wait to meet up with and put faces to all these names.
Better go for now as I am just in from work and knackered. I will keep checking and I will post something worth reading soon.
Good luck everyone with training and fundraising.

Well I have survived that shift although I do think I was not making a lot of sense sometimes when my mouth have difficulty relaying what my brain was formatting.
Just for you Donna, dont like to dwell too much on the falling incident and should really be thinking of having therapy.... here goes though.
Within first half hour of ride hit a BIG hill. You know I get panicky at the thought of them. This time I thought to myself 'I dont need to breath slowly into the brown bag, Im going for it'.... Change down gear, crunch, again crunch, woops chain off. Bike comes to a halt, heavy bike, heavy rider, foot in pedal cage, over we go. As I land on my side the handle bar twists as a final insult and wack me straight in my right boob and the newly added upright bits come to rest under my arm. All at BOTTOM of the hill. Moral, Hills ARE bad, pedal cages ARE bad, IOW is BAD........
Thankyou for giving me the opportunity to get that off my chest. Now in the process of turning this around and considering the best way to fundraise from showing off my bruises. They ARE worth it.
X E
