Devil [6] Playtex Moonwalk 2008

I'm taking part in this amazing evet for the very first time!! what am i letting myself in for?!!!! If you've done this event in the past or are doing it in 2008 please get in touch as it would be great to get to know a few people taking part as I'm walking it by myself (boo hoo!!).

I'm hoping to raise £1000 and would appreciate any help and advice on how to make sure I reach this target (or smash it to pieces!).

Please get in touch

Hi Nicola,

Just wanted to say hi as it seems we're both in the same boat attempting this for first time.

Here's to tired legs, blisters, walking like John Wayne and, hopefully, reaching that finishing line!

hiya. its good to see someone else on here who is taking part. How is your fundraising going? are you part of a team or doing it by yourself? I'm panicking a bit about what I'm letting myself in for. But instead of thinking I'm walking 26 miles I'm thinking that I'm walking a mile 26 times!!!

Feel free to email me to let me know how your training is going and stuff. ndposhbird@btinternet.com

Hi,
My sister and I are taking part for the first time this year! We have already started training! We are already panicking about how we are going to do it, but have set ourselves small goals. We are also planning some fund-raising, We have also persuaded some local bars to have a very large bra behing the bar to collect loose change in! It has certainly caused some yebrows to raise!!

Also walking this for the first time. 26 miles is scary - so far have managed 12 miles in a week so a long way to go but I'm determined to finish no matter how long it takes. I'll be remembering my mother who died of breast/lung cancer. I will be forever grateful for the care she, and we, got. Time to pass it on.

Hi Nicola,

I am doing the moonwalk this year too - I am part of a team - Deb's Divas - named after my sister who has finished her treatment for breast cancer in August last year. She is also doing the Moonwalk.

If you find yourself on your own on the night - let me know and we can try to meet up, I'm sure it must be more fun (and easier) to do it with others, however it sounds as if the atmosphere is fantastic and that will carry you along.

Regarding fundraising, we did a race night at our local school in January and raised £1800!!!! - in just 1 night. I have done some other charity things and done this before and raised £1,200 so it is a good money spinner and great fun. You book a man (or woman) who has the equipment and DVD's, you charge for people to come along - we did £7 for either a fish and chip supper or a buffet (depending on how many volunteers you can find!) and then they place bets during the evening. It is a great night and you raise masses!! Let me know if you want more details.

I really like the idea of bra's behind a bar - I think I might have a look into that one.

11 of us live in Banstead, Surrey and 2 in Norwich, so if we are close - let me know.

Good luck with your fundraising.

Hi there!!,

You are not going to be the only one doing this alone. My collegues didn't get in and now my best mate has come up with a lame excuse not to do it and stood me up!!!

To anyone participating alone....we should all gang up and create our own group of loners!!!!

Here's to blisters and shin splints!!!

Good luck everyone

Hi Christine,

What is it with people that just aren't committed to supporting such a great cause?!?!

My partner won't even come to London with me as he thinks I'm mad spending money going all the way down and staying the weekend in a hotel to walk through the night - when I'm doing it for his mum who is recovering from breast cancer!  I've got my mum or brother on stand by to take the trip down with me...at least that's some comfort knowing I'll be walking round on my own trying to gear myself up...well along with the rest of you that is!

I did 16 miles yesterday in 3 hours and 50 minutes which I don't know is good or bad.  Half of it I did in soaking shoes/socks too as, living in the country, I have to contend with ridiculous footpaths that just seem to disappear every now and again, hence me walking through boggy ground!

All I keep telling myself is the pain I will go through is nothing to the pain of those fighting the disease...and, in less than 5 weeks, I will be allowed a glass of wine to celebrateBig Smile [:D]

Breast foot forward everyone.

Katiex

My kit came Saturday just gone...the more I stare at it...the more the reality begins to set in!!!

I'm in the yellow group.  The colour depends on what finishing time group you initially estimated you would complete the walk in.  I wish I'd clicked the group above me (6-7 hours) and would have therefore been in green but never mind.

30 days today Wink [;)]. x
