Hi guys

sue - bikes is a tricky one....there are literally hundreds out there and as I'm no pro cyclist, I called Callum from Action for Charity when I was buying mine. He said that the bikes we get to use are "hybrid" bikes with 18 gears (sounds like what Donnas got) so he suggested to buy similar so that we are used to it, especially gears! I bought my hybrid bike of the internet aswell, but luckily it was the right size and I'm very happy with it!

Lorraine - it's not a problem, if I can help in any other way, just ask! We are all here for each other, thats what I'm loving about this ride - everyone seems so friendly and part of the team, I can't wait to meet you all! I'm a complete techno-phobe, so I don't know how to pm, so I'll let you do that if thats ok! I'll be happy to chat anytime!

I'm starting to feel that I need to improve my equipment when I'm out on my bike, so far I've got the obligatory padded shorts (atractive!),  gel seat, helmet and gloves - can anyone give advice on what I definately need to buy and what you all recommend? I've heard so many names of equipment mentioned, I'm getting confused - camelbaks, paniers, shoe thingy's............aaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Take care - happy cycling!!

Nicky xxx

Hi Nicky
I just read your post.
My friend and I are doing a charity auction on 21st June and would be very greatful for some tips or useful contacts. Your event sounded great. I want to do everything I can to make ours a success so any advice about what you would do differently or keep the same etc would be great.

Nicky, I have sent you a pm (private message). When you sign on if you look over to the lady with the trumpet just underneath written in blue one of the options is pm - if you click that one you should find my message there with my telephone number - hope to speak to you soon.

Donna I will call the hostel tommorow, look forward to meeting everyone soon

Lesley, if i were nearer you I would certainly join you, good luck with your auction

arranging a do!
Reply Quote
Hi ya all... sorry to be the moaner of the group but feeling rather dispondant tonight! Called a salsa company to arrange a date for a Cuban dinner & dance, but the person was pretty unhelpful, although I understand they would be pretty busy I was surprised that they couldn't refer anyone else to perhaps help!  Thought it would be nice to have an hour of salsa followed by buffet meal & mojito's, then music, & raffle draw later.

You all seem to be so successful at organising your events and getting motivated!

Jane .. I'm sorry I wont be able to make it to yours this weekend .. no car and little cash! Full on with work too at the mo, so training is out the window too! Don't seem to have any energy once work and motherly duties are done for the evening!

I'm seriously thinking of going to hypnotherapy to help me get on the right track. Indifferent [:|]

Hiya Julz, I expect the Salsa group was the same one that I contacted, where is their sense of community spirit I wonder.
I know what you mean about energy levels when all the work is done. I havent been out on bike for over a week. Decided that I had to get on top of the chores. Still clawing my way upwards.
Can I help in any way to get your event off the ground? We need to get together to brainstorm. Have you done the cakes at school yet?
I will try and catch you to arrange a meet up. Its going to be hard to pull some cycling days for us to do together before Solent challenge but if we have a spare hour between us perhaps we could meet up for liquid refreshment. X E

Hey Elaine .. thanks for the moral support. My house is a tip.. no time for the chores either, and with a messy 5 yr old in the house, no sooner does one thing get done then something gets messed up twice as much.
Haven't done the cakes yet, need to speak to the teachers this week to get the ball rolling there, being that it is a joint venture with the school should make it easier to organise. I will call another salsa group to see if they are anymore helpful, otherwise it'll have to just be cubana pop music, food, and raffles (that's if I can wangle any prizes).
... Just this minute called Justdance and they will look at options and get back to me soon with an answer. Figure they would be busier than the memorial hall so need to book entertainment before I can really book a slot on the hall, then everything else can fall in around it.
Meet for a cuppa would be great .. not free any daytimes for the next 3 weeks but some days I finish at 3 or there's the weekend.. I am nervous about doing the solent ride now too! Only 1 week away and nowhere near ready to do 66 miles. Think I'll have to start from this end and go round as wont be able to get to Lymington without having to cycle through anyways, although that does still leave me with the dilema of having to cycle alone. Luckily it goes passed my house.. lol

sorry you cant make it this weekend, I hope you get everything sorted.  It will all slot into place and everyone will enjoy themselves.  House work is a nightmare and it will always be there no matter how much you do.  I have to write lists. lots of them, cross them out and then write even more.  where are you starting the solent ride.  my husband not giving me an answer yet so dont know if i can do it. I am probably to late now anyway.

Is anyone thinking of coming down this weekend.  \no worries if not i will still do the saturday ride and Donna what are you wanting to do on the sunday or will you be coming on saturday for the slightly tougher road.  Need to work out what night I am allowed to ring.  I hope everyone is ok.  I am stuck in a rut with the raising of money, have no ideas at all.  Am going to brain storm tonight and then go for it, yehhh.  later x

sorry donna the last message was supposed to say I would like to know what night I can drink.  what a dope.  My typing skills obviously need some brushing up.  By the way I went into tescos the other day and they have lots of cycle equipment including padded shorts.  The shorts are less than £9 and I wore them this morning and to be truthful they are not bad at all.  they have gloves, inner tubes, cycle chains, mileometers.  It is deffinitely worth going to have a look in if you need anything.  ok loadies thats all. later xx

as you know girls i have had probs talking hubby into me doing another ride.
well thought i had it covered and guess what!!
the blooming breakfast club and after school club are closing.
now this has repercussions on my normal working week, but now hubby is going to have to take even more annual leave to cover me going to cuba, this means that rather than having to take an hour a day to drop them at breakfast club hes gonna have to take 3 hours annual leave a day!!!!................

Hey Angie,

If he gets paid thats a good option, what could he have for a week........mm wife missing, ironitus, children allergy. What a fab idea, I'm suprised you didn't think of it before.

Good luck with the bbq. Have you got out on the bike yet?

Janey, good job I phoned. will let you know about Sat. will def try and make it. Persuade mum to go out for tea in the evening.

Lorraine, I'll add you to the list.

Fudge now cooling hopefully manage to sell it all, it's looking good. Looking at making nice looking cakes for the fete in a couple of weeks time. Figure if they look nice what does it matter what they taste like!

Hang on in there Angie, I think there is something in the air at the moment that is making this 'challenge' just what it is.

I have still done NO CYLING since the New Forest weekend. My nerves are getting the better of me and I dont know why. Julz I am seriously thinking of hypnotherapy too.

Jane, I do wish I could join you this wekend, heaven knows I need the practice and a good kick up the behind. Have a good session though.

Solent Challenge - Julz, I wont let you cycle on your own. I will make some arrangements to get you over here and we will all start together and stop at the same coffee shops together and admire the scenary together and as its the longest day we will have ages to finish together.
Anybody else joining us?
X E
