Over £2000 in one night
Reply Quote

I arranged to book a local restaurant for the night.  A menu was agreed at a price of £25 per head and I sold tickets to the event for £30.  The maximum seating was 55 and I got friends and family to take a table each - this raised £275 from the 'bums on seats' alone.

I asked local businesses  and everyone I know for raffle and auction prizes.  Envelopes were given to everyone for them to place their raffle money in - this raised £800 and the auction raised £1000.  I was very lucky as a friend got tickets for Wimbledon for me and we had dinner for two at a London restaurant too but you could ask local restaurants/pubs to offer dinner prizes.  Hairdressers/beauty salons to donate vouchers.  Shops to donate vouchers.

Try everything!!

My local pub is running a quiz night for me this week too where we are charging £1 a head to join the quiz and will hold a raffle too.  I will also make sure that I have plenty of collecting tins around Big Smile [:D]

It is such a relief to have successfully raised my target amount so now I don't have to worry about that just about running the 26 miles!!!!

Good luck everyone

Your event sounds ace! glad it all went well, I was surprised how generous people were at my event too.

I got over £2000 in one day as well, mine was a 12-hour Music Marathon.

It was brill, i organised it with my school and my friends, we had over 40 musicians all from school providing 12 hours of nonstop music! I got sponsorship from companies in return for advertising with the event, the computer shop where I work has a giant printer for printing A0 posters (80cm x 120cm), so I could put lots of big company logos on them. The sponsorship from companies netted about £500!

I got another £350 sponsorship from friends, and generous donations of £100+ from my grandparents and other family members. Then i also asked every other participating musician to collect sponsorship from their friends and family. I actually don't yet know how much this'll bring in

The real big surprise was the generosity of visitors on the day. The concert ran from 9am-9pm in a local church in the middle of town (we weren't charged for hiring it). We decided entry should be free, so people could come and go as they please, and we sold cakes, tea, coffee, home-made fudge, even second-hand books and of course put out buckets for donations. I expected this to raise about £400, instead we went home with over £1000!

It was a fantastic day, also slightly surreal, I had strangers come up to me and press money into my hands, and was visited by two TV crews!

I think once I've got all the sponsorship in, the event will have raised at least £2000, more like £2300!! I owe a lot to my friends and my music teacher especially for all their help.

Hi Rachel, Well done. Thats sounds fantastic

How did you get resturants and shops to donate goods and gift vouchers?  Did you go to see them or did you write? I have been sending both local and big firms a letter and a copy of my just giving page for info but Im not having any success. Individuals are very generous but I have been surprised at businesses I have been a customer of for many years don't even acknowledge my letters.  So any advice or tips would be very welcome.

Thanks

jenny

I'm hoping to organize a summer ball, my mum is part of a committee which every other year does a ball in aid of farleigh hospice. they raise ridiculous amounts every time!!!!!
I'm hoping enlist some of them in order to help with my FLM '09 efforts, one aspect which always gets them alot of corporate sponsorship is ask companies to sponsor courses!! dessert for £250, starter for £200, main course for £500 etc.
