Hi 'Novia'

Well done with your ball, the only trouble with one event is the stress to the lead up, but wow that was a really wonderful amount to raise. I managed just under £1300.00 on a disco I held recently.

Nicky has got an event coming up soon so wishing her loads of good luck for it.

Aly, your story was really good, where do you find them all? Its almost like nothing happens around here, and if it did and I tried to write about it descriptively it would come out as drivel!

Did you manage to find somewhere for the band that offered to do a gig f.o.c Julz?

Hope your cold is clearing up Sue, don't want to let your new training buddy do too much on his own.

I met a lady called Deena on Sat and pointed her in this direction, she's on the second ride. Sounds like her fund raising is on track, she's got a load of events organised, one of them being a sponsored walk round the local resi, said I would give it a go and get my daughters friends to sponsor me, its only a 5 mile walk.

I've only had a very relaxing weekend gardening with no computer involved and the boards gone a bit bonkers again, took me ages to catch up and sure that I've missed some of it.......

Hi Novia

wow, how impressive was your ball?!

You really may be able to help me out here.  My friend and I are doing the Cuba 3 event.  We have decided, and agreed on something similar ball-cocktail party, marquee, comedian and band.  I just wondered if there was anyway you could contact me to share some of your planning; what worked, what didn't etc that kind of thing.  We think there is so much on around now that we are aiming for September.

Please could you either pm me, or email me to discuss.

Many thanks
L.

Hi

Well the band have now said they are charging me £120! And not getting anywhere with booking the memorial Hall! The words .. bang, head, brick, wall, spring to mind! I am terrified of arranging something only for no one to show up! I have no money of my own, so to risk being out of pocket is scarey! This is proving to be incredibly hard fundraising on my own, with no support network near me! Beginning to think I was insane to sign up to this.

hey julz

chin up,you can do it, be positive,
we all hit low points and struggle with fundraising it is hard work, and i have to say i nearly pulled out last week!!
but im still here,

im concentrating on ebaying and selling books on amazon , its hard work and very time consuming but im not doing to bad,
ill panic in july if im still way off target, but for now my motto is every little helps!!

think about what else you could do, car boot sales? scratch cards in the bar? non uniform day at the girls school, cake sale at the school, do they have a summer fare, why not get a table? what about sponsored ironing!!

come on girl you need to be on that plane to Cuba...theres a mojito waiting for you...

Julz, you said the band had a good following so that should help with ticket sales. What sort of music do they play? From what i gather, a lot of sponsorship money tends to come in the week before you go. I'm sure if you have enough money in for the travelling expenses they won't mind it being late. I don't think I will get my money in till late September.
Oops, I better get off to work.
Take care xx

Hi all,

Julz if you don't want to commit to something with an outlay, don't go big if it scares you, do lots of little things the money's still the same whatever! what about a BBQ in your garden on a nice day, guests bring food, and you charge a small amount to come in and have a social get together, that goes to the charity. A teddy bear picnic where you arrange a place, charge a fee, print off a set of pictures for parents and kids to spot, like flowers, birds etc they bring their own picnic and you take a rounders game (they are only £2.99) for the soft ones. say £5.00 per family in a nice spot. people always want someone to arrange things for a weekend afternoon, be that person! Cake sale outside your house on a weekend a bit like a garage sale, but cakes. Ask if you can rattle a collecting tine outside a garden centre for a couple of hours. I raised over £200.00 a couple of yrs ago with that one. Ask your children to do a sponsored walk and get their friends to sponsor them, it might only be £20.00 but when they know somethings for a good cause kids are incredibly generous. You don't need a support network for these ones, you have loads of support from us and we all have loads of ideas for you don't we girls.

Angie good luck with the fare.

Right off to get ready for work, speak soon

Hi Julz, Dont panic Mr Mannering,
We are all in this together! And cinderella you will go to the ball!!

I keep saying it that I will do more fundraising soon , possibly June/July and I will pay anything I get extra into your account. You will find you will get folks at you dance though as I felt exactly the same. I was panicking but it was a great success on the night. I am also doing a prize bing and that always brings iin money. Anyway please dont panic. All of us are freaking out now about something. Me .. My weight and fitness, You your fundraising. It is only natural. We will be some mix match of figures, personalities, natures etc when we get on that plane but remember why we are doing it, Who we are doing it for and focus on someone fighting breast cancer and someone who didnt win the fight. This is where I am trying to take my inspiration from. Catch you soon

Hi

My name is Deena and I am the lady who Donna met last Saturday. This is my first entry to the forum.

It was really great meeting Donna and to talk to someone who had already done a cycle ride for the charity. After talking to Donna I have now changed from the second ride in November to the first 13th - 22nd. Hope she doesn't mind

I am holding a coffee evening on Friday 16th May so hope that will be successful and raise some money. As Donna mentioned she has kindly volunteered to do my sponsored walk.

Be great to hear from anyone who is also on the same cycle ride as I am.

Deena

Thank you all for your supportive suggestions... I feel such a moaner.. sorry Embarrassed [:$] I panic about the fundraising, my fitness as longest cycle I have managed so far was the 18 miles I did with Elaine 2 weeks ago, and I panic about my 4 stone plus extra weight I am carrying! When I first fell pregnant with my youngest I was only 8 st 10lb at my 10 week check up so to be over 13 st is a huge shock for me.

The band plays Ska music and when they played at the club they didn't have the following I expected them to have, so that threw me. But we'll see if I can get any response from the memorial hall

hey julz
come on girl
give some fundraising activities ago,
you did well when you did the curry night
you will feel so much more positive when you get out there and do it, last time i was still a grand down a week before the funds were due in, but i got there and was so proud of myself for doing it on my own. I have never looked back its given me the confidence in all areas of my life, if you can do this you can do anything
Part of my bargaining with hubby to go this year was that i have also got to raise all my costs, and as im taking 2 weeks unpaid leave[£850] and having to pay for childcare for while im away, i have to raise an extra £1,200 ontop of the £3,00o
but you know what ,i will do it..
ebays my favourite Friend at the mo and as friends know im selling books i have had so many donations amazon is taking off now too..
SO COME ON JULZ

GO JULZ GO................................

Idea [I] FUNDRAISING SUGGESTION
Reply Quote
Hi Julz & anyone else interested

Heres a link to a mobile phone & ink cartridge recycling programme that gives you money for your fundraising.
We did it for the school and got £85.00 for 1 box!! they even supply the collection box and come and pick it up then give you a cheque..
couldnt be easier.

Perhaps a local store would let you put it in there , then put add in local rag and pass the word around.. easy money for no hard work just my kind of thing...

Hey Deena,

Welcome to the forum, don't know how you found it with my rambling explanation! They must have had a few cancellations on the first ride then, glad you managed to change.

Bad news I'm afraid, nearly all the ladies on this board apart from suzi new ( that I know of) are on ride 1, so we'll be the ones that you ride with.

Will be trying to see if I can put a collection box for recycling cartridges at work, and have a friend at Curry's who might be able to swing one in there.

My kids just suggested that I do a sponsored silence. 24hrs! For those who have met me you know what a feat that would be. I kind of think that the kids are just praying for silence.......... little gits.......

Question... Does anyone know anyone big up in the Rugby world as I have a shirt that I'm trying to get signed by the England 07 team, not very successfully at the moment. but will try harder.

Julz what about a family bingo in the local school hall(or anywhere else you want really) on a weekend afternoon. Something for all the family, they pay for the tickets similar to ordinary bingo. Box of maltesers or similar for prizes!

Off to cook some stroganoff for the starving, protesting masses. Only just got in after chaufering them all round.

hey donna,

ill ask at the rugby club for you you never know, sometimes we get a few Bristol players there who may know someone..
good idea if you auctioned at our club youd get a bidding war!! thats if they were drunk enough,

have discussed with rugby fundraising team and they have altered there fundraising schedule so i can do an adult 'do' in august and they will do a childs event instead, we did a fundraiser on sunday for the rugby club mini tour next year and raised £600 just on bbq, curry , sweets & raffle...
trouble is i work for a charity and am on both the rugby club and school fundarising committee as well so they do all the big ideas, so was real pleased when they changed the schedule for me...

so im off to do major planning, Donna i will be phoning you for advice...

Hi all.  Well I will try once again to be back on line.  Every time I try to get back in something else happens.  Everything has been on hold although last week I was able to start the cycling back.  Bit slow and painful but getting there.  Fund raising  also came to a holt.  cancelled the evening do on the 23 may as could not concentrate on it but have re organised it for August.  Have done it for the last weekend as everyone will be back here with schools starting on the thursday so it probably works out better.  How did IOW go.  How far did you cycle.  Nobody seems to have written anything about it.  is everyone still recovering.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at the end of the month.  I will also be in devon the weekend before if anyone wants to meet up for a ride.  we are going near to exeter but i can be dropped off anywhere. Everyone sounds very busy with there fundraising.  Good luck with it all .  Later x

Hi Jane,

Welcome back, hope your son is recovered, can't imagine how worried you were. IOW was brill or should I say the last flat bit was the best bit, the hills were very hilly, but it was a good day and great meeting some of the other ladies. We got badges for our achievements, and managed a fab 55kms and met some handsome firemen.

What event have you rejigged, its been ages since you've been on I've forgotten.

Angie if you need anything let me know. What a fab idea for the Rugby Club. You might even manage to get those brawly Rugby players doing a bit of latino dancing........... after a few beers of course. When I was a lass it used get a bit wild when the Rugby boys went out up town.......

Going out now to consume wine with my friend. Horrid day at work and need it.
