Hi Donna

Yea cycle buddy is great, (Chris) no Steve did'nt ring him, asked me what he looked like, so I told him he was 6' 3" dark and handsome, at this discription he just laughed.
I should be going out Saturday, but I have had a cold, and I think it might have gone to my chest really struggling might have to go to Docs if it dos'nt get better.

I'm going to check out the local pub, we know the owner, so perhaps he will come up trumps for a venue, will let you know.

Girls are we all going to the meeting on the 18th? I know lots of you have met, but perhaps we should wear name tags.

I'm going on the 18th, I would imagine they will give us name badges their.

I'm a happy bunny today, cycled to work and didn't stop, did 13miles in 1hr 2mins and 46sec, yeh, and that includes a horrible hill. I'm so chuffed, i feel like I've suddenly reached the bit where it's supposed to get easier.

Love and hugs to you all.

Organising a Charity Event - Advice Needed
Reply Quote

Hi Everyone, glad everyone is doing well and getting plenty of cycling practice!

Can anyone advise me? I'm organising a charity casino night, and wondered what the rules where about the sale of tickets etc. Am I allowed to advertise that the event is on? Seems a funny question I know, but I dont know what the rules are about sales of tickets etc

Any advice would be gratefully received

Hi Angie and everyone,

Sorry I have not been on but just been working flat out, We have major cricis going on within scotttish ambulance service and management have put an overtime ban on. Everywher single crewed if anyone is off so nearest double crew is covering. In four days we did our 32 hours and we did 26 hours overtime on top of that, It is killing us but hey ho. So not been out on bike this week but I got out byesterday.
Very hot. I went up the mountain at Aonach mhor and did 5 miles 3 uphill. All of a sudden felt really dizzy, wobbly so got of the bike and was very very sick aand dizzy. Scary as I was in forest on my own. I sat and sipped water and after 30mins felt better. Big lesson learned!! Hey girls keep sipping the fluids.
I have done night shift lastnight so I am just up and I am going to do a wee ride but will stick to flatter area today. I hope everyone is ok and fundraising going ok. I think we need to have a publish our fund raising day in August so that if anyone still below target we could see what we can all do. Weather is just fantastic. It is very very hot and I havae realised that I am a wet weather cyclist. I am struggling with the weight. Still sitting at 17. 7 so very very overweight so I am trying to focus myself back onto my diet. I am hopefull that AS i HAVE KEPT THE 3 STONE OF AND NOT put any on that i will get back on track. Keep posting girls looking forwarda to meeeting Elaine and her sister. on 17th May. now

Hi everyone,
I went out for a cycle ride with the ctc today. A women turned up with a Women for Women Cycle Cuba 2003. Very nice lady, asked her loads of questions. There is a mountain apparently but they do play you music when you get to the top plus a nice drink. They like you to take bars of soap over, that should keep our clothes smelling nice. They didn't do a round trip, they finished in Trinidad.
I like the sound of the publish the fundraising day, not sure what you mean by it but it sound good.
Well done for keeping the weight off Aly, and you're right about sipping the water, I'm sure that's what keeps me going on the bike, I take my camelbak everytime I cycle.

Hi folks,
Well did 9.5 miles on Fri and managed 15.5 on Sat. I am finding my problem is not that I can not cycle any more but time restraints very very difficult to be able to stay out longer. Today going a walk up hill with my hubby so maybe I will get a wee cycle in later tonight.
For publishing fundraising day I meant that if we all say 1st week of August post our totals on forum we could then see who if anyone needs help to get to Cuba with fundraising. I am going to bank my monies until I reach target into action for charity but If I get anything over this I will wait and see if anyone else needs it to bring up their tally. I feel we are all working so hard and trying to do all our daily bits and pieces is difficult enough, especially for those with wee bairns. I do not know how much if any I will gather up but feel it is all going to the same place so does not matter in whose name it gets banked. Anyway, weather here today slightly cooler but still beautiful about 20 degrees. For us in the Highlands though when the good weather comes early so do the dreaded midgies and you can already see them out when cycling in the forests. I hate them but hopefully by the time they are out in full force I will be so fast on my bike they will not be able to catch me. I think not!! Hope you all are having great weekend and you and yours stay healthy, safe and happy ! Does anyone know where the ride is going to be nov next year. ? Aly

hi ya all.. well done to all those doing lots of training. I can't wait for the fundraising to be over so I can concentrate soley on getting fit. I will be away the first week of August so unless I can get to an internet cafe I'll have to wait until I get back August 26th to post my total.
I have just joined up to the local weightwatchers meet which hopefully will help to get me focused!
You talking about Nov next year already? You are keen!! Big Smile [:D] Don't know that I could put myself through the fundraising side of this again.

I did an 8.5 mile ride the other day and doing one again wednesday, hopefully longer this time. I really need training on hills though as one near me is only about 100 meters but I felt dizzy as when I got up to the top! Not sure the incline but it was steep! Had to get off and sit down for a few minutes. Scares the hell out of me that I wont make the ride!

Anyway.. its a glorious day so really should take my girls out. I bought a trail gator but as yet haven't managed to fix it onto my bike yet so cycling is out today!

Hi Julz

I've just started trying to lose weight, the thought of carrying all these extra pounds up the hills really freaks me out.....!!!!!Huh? [:^)]

Re fundraising, I've just put together a quiz sheet and wondered if anyone was willing to have a look and tell me what they think? I'm going to sell it for £2 each and offer prize money, so if it's ok you are all welcome to have a copy to put your details on and sell if you like........Big Smile [:D]

Also, I'm panicking because everyone seems to be really fit now.. - I'm building up my fitness but I'm no where near doing 30 or 40 miles yet......HELP!!

Also (sorry, but I may as well get everything off my chest) is there anyone from Dorset area going next Sunday who would consider travelling up with me? I feel a bit nervous to be honest..

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine today, I'm waiting till it cools a bit before I go out

Suexxxx  Smile [:)]

Hi Sarah, Many thanks for that. I was just curious.
Elaine, well today I went for a walk up to Chaaig falls at Achnacarry. I went down the cycle path for a wee lokk and came upon the most amazing wee place. Deep in amongst the trees on the side of Loch Lochy we came to an archway of tied trees. Sitting on the trees all over the place was wee fairies!!
On a branch their was a poem which read:

We the woodland fairies say
To little folks who come this way
If you would like our world to view
But falling raindrops make you blue,
Our brollies here will keep you dry
But leave them here when you say goodbye!!

Underneath a huge wooden mushroom painted red with white spots was about 12 brollies. We were fascinated so followed the wee fairy who was pointing down through the trees and said welcome.
Inside was amazing.
We followed the forestry path which was strewn with glitter stars etc and found loads of wee fairy houses made from trees and bark. They were excellant! There was a train climbing up a branch with teddiees in it and apart from the front engine which was a train the carriages were all wee tiny baby shoes with teddies in them. It was called the Chattanoocka shoe shoe!
There was dinasor corners. A tree shoe with shoes with names on . Butterfly trees covered in butterflies. Christmas trees , elephant corners, Beautiful fairy villages,
Teddies sitting around a huge maypole having a party with little fairies dotted all through them.
It was magical. !! I think you will just love to visit it and it is on a great cycle ride.
There was another wee poem and explanations about the reason for fairiey glen. It was started by a lady locally who had breat cancer. She had a mastectomy and after this was out walking . She wandered along the side of the loch side and stopped for a drink in the trees. She felt a deep sense of peace and jokingly said to her friends that she had found the fairy glen that is talked about locally in all the folklore books. The fairies are apparently watching over everyone in Lochaber but you will only feel them in times of trouble. She went back up the loch side a few days later and placed a fairy on a tree. For her 30th birthday a few weeks later her friends took her back and as a surprise they had placed many many fairies along with a few houses etc for her. She was overjoyed and felt that as she had so much pleasure from this wee quiet glen maybe so would others. The forestry commision gave them permission to develop it into what we see today. There are wee pots full of pennies everywhere and last year she donated £143.00 to breast cancer charities. I cant wait fro you to see it. I never knew it was there and only found out the story from my sisiter in law tonight.
Will post the wee poem when I charge my camera and get it off there. I wish I knew how toget pictures on to the internet that you could all see as I took some today. Any suggestions?? Cheery Aly

Wow Aly, this sounds so magical. Von and I have just had a busy weekend at hers with a charity pamper weekend, so cycling non existant. Now we are both so looking forward to our holiday. Thought midges might be a problem. I am covered with mozzy bites myself at mo and expect your midges will give me a going over. Take care and dont do yourself an injury. X E

Hi all,

Haven't been on for ages, so not sure if any of you will remember me. My sister in law and I are doing the 2nd cycle cuba race and on Friday we held the Glitz and Glamour charity spring ball and managed to raise a total of £3252.57!!!!!! (profit!)

It puts us on our total for both of us of £5100.57, so we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel finally. So, just wanted to say that it can even be done in one night alone and if I can be of any help to anyone re advice about an event like this then please do let me know xx
