My Marathon Wedding!
Reply Quote

Hello all!

Wow, this forum is such a great idea!  I'm going to be cheeky and use it to plug my cause if nobody minds!!
My fiance Gordon and I will be running in the 2006 London Marathon in aid of Help the Hospices. Help the Hospices is a national charity which gives time and care to people with incurable illnesses. Every year, they help 250,000 terminally ill adults and children to live life to the full, whatever time they have left. Help the Hospices also provides a range of support services to the families, friends and carers of hospice patients. These services are provided free of charge.
However this will not be any ordinary race as both Gordon and I will be wearing our full wedding outfits (including a long dress for me!) and be greeted by a registrar at Tower Bridge (mile 13) to get married there and then. We will then set off to finish the race together as husband & wife. We are asking friends & family not to buy us wedding gifts but instead to make a donation to this incredible charity.
If any of you would like to support us, please visit our web page at www.justgiving.com/marathonwedding.  Please forward this to all friends & family who might want to support us in raising as much money as possible for this incredible charity.
I'd love to hear from anyone else who is running in the Marathon especially in outfits, odd circumstances etc. - calling all Rhino's and Supermen!!
Katie x

Of course I will!  Here is a pic of me in my veil and running number taken for the company newsletter.  The things we have to do to get publicity, eh!?  ;-)

I suspect I won't be looking quite so fresh-faced in the real ones, all sweaty in my Nike Airs (NICE!!).

Make sure you look out for me on the telly - I'll be the one struggling in the long white dress!!

Will put the pic in the photo section as I'm not sure I can do it here??

It's probably a user error, that's what the IT help-desk at work always tell me anyway!!

I have the option of publishing photo's in the photo section but not in the other forum areas.  For example, the box I'm typing in now doesn't have the upload photo option at the bottom.  I guess it's supposed to be like that?  Either way - I've stuck my mug shot in the photo section for you all to laugh at!!

Hi Katie,

Big congratulations I hope it goes really well for you. I always admire people who run around in costumes. I have applied for an official place and a charity place, but reckon I’m going struggle in shorts and vest let alone a Wedding Dress!

If you don’t try, you’ll never know and tomorrow is another day!

Truly amazing.  What a great idea.

I will forward details of your page to my colleagues at work.

Judging by your picture I'm sure you will not struggle for page boys!!  Just think if it doesn't work out you can just keep going!!

Something old... something new....

Good luck.

J

Thanks all for your kind words and support - we are both so excited, it should be a very emotional day.  And you're right - if I change my mind, I'll just wave to the rellies on Tower Bridge and run on by!!!!!

Good luck to all of you who are taking part on the day, let's all hope it doesn't rain!!!!

Hi Katie

I too am running for 'Help The Hospices' - It is my first ever marathon and am really looking forward to it.

I'd offer to be a flower girl but not sure if I'd be able to keep up with you!  Do you have a time your aiming to meet the registrar?

Just to think you'll be doing two wonderful things in one day 'Getting Married' & 'Running in the worlds best Marathon'.

Good Luck with your fundraising - I hope to see you on the day - Best Wishes Catherine

Hey Catherine!

Nice to hear from a fellow HTH supporter - I ran for them last year too, they are a really great bunch of people who will do everything they can to help you complete the marathon and raise lots of money.  Last year I couldn't get over how much support they gave me from the side lines, I'm actually having 2 of them as my witnesses this year which is great as it will hopefully remind all the guests etc why we are doing this.

It should be an amazing day, I'm just praying that the rain keeps away.  But if it does then hey, it will just make finishing so much more pleasurable!!

One thing is guaranteed - this may be your first marathon but it definitely won't be your last.  You'll get the bug for sure!  I hope your training is going well, and thanks for the support - make sure you come over to say Hi if you see us on the way around (I'll be the sweaty bride!!).

Katie xx

Hey Lynn!

I've just been scouting about online during my lunch hour and found the article you did on the BBC website - I thought I've definitely seen that face before and remembered that you replied to my justgiving post!!  Well done on the publicity, I hope it's given your fund-raising a boost?

How is the training coming along?  I think what you are doing is truly amazing and I wish you every success for Marathon Day.

Please send me your justgiving website and I'll definitely sponsor you!!!!

Katie xx
