Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all. Only 5 months to go now arrrggghhhh lol
Time to kick start the fundraising again and to push on the training. I have not done any exercise in 4 months after someone smashed into the back of my car :(
But I got a load of stuff I need for the trek at Christmas, so no time like the present to start using it.
I got a great berghaus rucsack, new treking shoes, thermarest and other bits and bobs.
I hope everyone is getting excited :)

Happy new year to everyone!
Alan, Please let me know how the thermarest sleeping mat works out. I bought Black's own brand sleeping mat last week because it was half the price. However I slept on it a couple of days ago and I have never been so sore in all my life. I was thinking of upgrading to a thermarest so I would appreciate your comments on it.
Best Wishes John (and Angus)

Hi John,
I know Ledge was quite happy with his. I put mine on the floor Christmas day and laid out on it for a while and thought it was OK, but I have to admit it is a lot thinner than I thought it was going to be.
I will have to try it on some rougher ground though, as I don't think my carpet with thick underlay is really going to be a good test lol

Right, i have untill the 1st March to raise £1600!!!!
Really, really don't want to stand in the doorway of the local supermarket with a bucket.
A local theatre has been great and has been allowing me to collect money at the afternoon performances of thier panto, and a local Am Dram company are going to let me collect at the end of their performances, but what to do to get the rest.
Oh and aparently we have a red nose day this year.... thought we had one of those last year? Anyway, thats gonna hit the fund raising hard! (During Children in Need the money dried up and local press weren't interested in giving me any publicity!)

Ah, I have been given a prolite 3. I'm sure it will do the trick though.

Hi There,
I just thought I'd muscle in on this thread and intruduce myself. I'm Rosie from Northamptonshire and will be joining you guys in May, of which I'm getting really excited about. I'll be going with 2 other ladies also from Northants, Lesley and Anne - we've been fundraising together and reached our targets just before Christmas, which we're really thrilled about and we'll now be able to concentrate on the training. I don't think I've ever worked so hard in all my life raising the money, but it has been a challenging, and fun adventure, also a big learning curve.
We've rattled tins (not literally!) outside super markets, which was very easy and fun - so many people told us their Macmillan stories involving their families and friends - some of them were quite heart rendering. I also spent the whole of the summer scrumping fruit from friends gardens to turn into jam and sold it at various coffee mornings we held. But the piece désistance was a dance/auction which we held in a fantastic old stately home (Kelmarsh Hall), at the beginning of December, we managed to raise £4,500 but OMG it was hard work to organise and we were terrified that no one would buy the tickets - thankfully they did and everyone had a great time. I think if I was to organise anything like that again, I would pay someone to do the washing up!
Look at me rambling on I must stop! I'm looking forward to meeting you all in London next month.
Take care,
Rosie

Hi!
I am planning to go to Machu Picciu in September. I am very impressed at how everyone is getting prepared. I think I am going to be one of the eldest but nevertheless if anyone out there is going at the same time I would love to to hear from them. . I am raising money for St Mark's Hospital Foundation. Our hospital situated in North West London specialises in intestinal and colon diseases. Many of these diseases can still only be treated not cured and often they are terminal. I am hoping to donate to the research projects and in particular the Intestinal Failure Unit headed by Dr Simon Gabe. I need some encouragement. Thanks to everyone and good luck.

Hi Rosie,
I am off to Peru in May and am quite excited about the challenge although apprehensive about what lies ahead!
Are you going to the meeting in London in February?
Regards,
Paul

Less than four months to go! Hope everyone is working hard on their fitness. Going to the gym three times a week and trying to get plenty of walking done. Going on a Stagg-Party Weekend in March doing the three peaks. Just received a phone call from Discover Adventure to say the they've got five for the Amazon Extension. Deadline is getting close so if you fancy it contact them to arrange it. All the Best to everyone!!!

I went to my local GP yesterday to ask about injections for the trip. Typhoid and Hep B were free so I had them (I'm scottish). However I was shocked to be quoted £255 for four other injections I was told I should have. Yellow Fever, Hep A, Rabies and Hep B Booster. Luckily occupational health at work offered to do them for free, but wondered if anyone else had been ripped off like this? Do all GP's charge? Is it another post-code lottery? I'd be interested to hear your views.
Best Wishes John (and Angus)

Thanks for highlighting that John. It's reminded me that I must put the form into my GP to say where I will be travelling too and I know that I must have a yellow fever certificate for the amazon extension. I will let you know whether they try and charge me for it, they already stung me over £100 for a medical.
