Hi
I registered for the India ride in Jan 08 but my fundraising is going so slow for some reason I am seriously thinking of transfering to this one instead! Anyone registered for this yet? Or thinking of changing?
I don't get why my fundraising is so hard.. I didn't think it was going to be a breeze, but I seem to be getting very little response AT ALL!
At least if I change over it will give me more time to collect & get fit, as I have 4 stone to lose before the event.

UPDATE.... I have officially transfered now to the first of the Cuba Rides on November 13th - 22nd. The curry night was nice but only sold 30 tickets despite asking hundreds of people! Out of which 3 did not turn up. Then the restaurant wanted paying for 40 minimum!!! I refused to pay for more than I sold. As they charged me £8 per head I paid them £240. For the whole night though after all including raffle I made £435 for the charity.
I do have other ideas to do from September and now I have transfered I feel better about being able to reach my target for money & fitness
Thanks for the support, it really helps.. good luck everyone whichever event you are doing
Angie..
That is great, well done you. I gave up years ago so know how hard it can be. You will rake in a fortune if you put in all the ciggie money, could reach yoru target with that alone.. hehe
Hope to hear from some others doing this event too.
Did you do the same event as Fern last year? She is doing Cuba next year too I hear, although don't know if she'll be on the first ride. Think she is great for doing it. And good on you too for completing it last year
Julz
Well done... will inspire you just seeing the money pile grow like you say. Keep it up
I'm joining a different gym next week and going to start doing some spin classes again, they are great for getting stamina levels up. Once my youngest starts fulltime school in September I'll be at the gym most days. Hopefully cycling there and back even. That's the plan anyway.
Take care .. chat soon
Hi Julz
So glad you are not giving up. . I keep dipping into your thread to see how you are doing. Cuba sounds great and it gives you more time to fundraise and to make contacts. We might all be on different rides but its all for the same reason so we should pull together. One thing I forgot to suggest to you is the local Rotary/Lions/Masons/Golf/etc clubs. These people are usually very generous and you might be lucky enough to get adoped as their charity for the year especially if you write to them before September when they are sorting out next year's fundraising. Also I was lucky enough to get some money from the folk group Fairport Convention. Is there anyone famous in your area that you could contact? Ann x
Hi Ann
Thank you for your message. I have contacted as many people as I can think of including Saints FC, but no replies whatsoever. Radio Stations, Village magazines, Local Papers, Cycle Shops. Cycleworld replied that they could do me a discount on a new bike of 10% and a sale or return on a puncture kit but nothing else!! The rest fell on deaf ears. I did email rather than write to as I could include ALL relevant information about the ride, the cause and why I am doing it. I work in the local social club, and have to put a proposal in writing to the commitee in order to do some fundraising there. So long winded but I will do it.
I don't know anyone famous who lives around here, only visiting stars like Craig McLachlan who I saw at Race for Life on sunday. He is in town doing a show until September.
I will keep plugging away at this, somehow I will break through the hard exterior... and find peoples charitable side.. haha
Best of luck to you .. keep in touch
Hi Donna
Thanks for your message... that is great you had such a good time last trip. I have felt more positive since changing over to this ride. I am trying to organise a Cuban Carribean family fun day, will be a lot of work but oh so worth it after.
yes please for any extra help you can offer.. as you have been there before it would be wonderful to pick your brains.
Good on you both for doing it again, I hope I want to repeat the experience. It has to be such a buzz to complete it.

Hi Sarah
Go for it! I am doing the Women for Women Cycle India this November. The fundraising really worried me too - but I had reached my target by March this year - just 7 motnhs after siging up. Won't waffle on about how I did it - have a look at my just giving page - its all on there. You'd do it, no problem I am sure.
I haven't looked back - already I have made some great friends, ladies doing the same event, through the Justgiving forum. We have met up for training sessions, orgainised by ourselves - we all live in different parts of the country and lead very different lives, but we all got on from the first instance - its been fab! Without them, I would have felt a bit isolated, especially as the official traing event isn't until about 10 weeks before we go. Its been good to have someone to ring and speak to and to"chat" on the forum, who knows what you are going through and to share the highs and the lows.
Would definately recommend you think about it - its been life changing for me already, and I haven't got to India yet! I have two teenage children - they have been really suportive - and I think it will do them good to have to fend for themselves ( well, their Dad will be there too!) while I am away. I think I will be leaving post it notes all round the house, but hey! They might realise I do more than just drink coffee and watch This Morning!!! Or maybe I don't.......
Hi Sarah.. well I did orignally register for the India 2008 trip back in May, but have now transfered to Cuba after thinking long and hard about how long I had left for fundraising. Going to Cuba is still way over a year away, and funds don't have to all be in until August next year so we have a year to get on with fundraising.
I know it seems daunting now, but once you get going it really is ok, and part of the challenge is the fundraising of course. Put the word out and see what response you get. Do you have many people that can donate intially to boost the total? Make a fndraising page and put it on your signature for every email you send to anyone.
I was really struggling until after I did my first fundraiser, and changed to the later ride. Now I am fine about it all, and really looking forward to it.
I took it on as a life changing challenge due to personal circumstances having not been so great in recent years and turning 40 last year.
How old are your little ones? I am sure your husband would be absolutely fine. Mine are staying with my ex, and he is great with them so I have no reservations there even though my youngest is 4, my other one is 14 so she is a great help anyway which does make it easier.
If you set your mind to this you will do it, and of course we are all always there to help and support you. There are as you will have read a couple of ladies who have already done a ride before so we can both pick their brains on what to expect, etc. There are training weekends arranged too so we get to meet up before the event.
Where are you located?
