Had local venue (function room) quite a large room that holds up to 200, they did me a deal & let me have it for £50 (normally £150-200), they said if I had 150 people or did £1,000 behind bar they would let me have room for free.  Had Rep's from Ann Summers, The body shop & Virgin vie all doing 20 min demo's.  To be perfectly honest there wasn't that much interest in The body shop or virgin vie.  All put in a raffle prize (i.e the hostess gift) and all agreed to put the commision on sales to charity (about 15-20%)  I also had a disco and the famous male stripper. (disco £150, male stripper £140) total overheads £340.  Like I said I didnt seem to get that much interest when it came down to ticket sales, but following a fantastic night, the word will get around!!  Now i have my contacts anything similar I do should be quite easy to organise.  Going to do another ladies night and also thinking about a skool disco!  My husband has Just registered me at easyfundraising.org,  got to get my head round how it all works, anyone have any advice / tips?

Hi everybody

I remembered to record Fern yesterday and today. It looks challenging but fantastic although I wasn't too keen on the bit about the children holding out branches of thorns in an attempt to knock the women off their bikes! I hope they get sorted out before next year.

I had a quiz night in our local pub on Sunday and raised £112 with the raffle as well. Not bad for a small village. I charged £1 a head to take part and £1 a strip for the raffle. The pub gave the quiz prize (a case of house wine) and the raffle prizes were a mixture donated by myself and friends and supporters. The girls behind the bar were really sweet and donated their tips for the evening and they have also given me the contents of their penny jar. I know that compared to some other people's fund raising  £112 isn't very much but the beauty of a quiz night is that you can have one every couple of months or so. If anyone else is thinking of doing it I found a great site called www.quiz-zone.co.uk where you can generate random questions for free. People taking part felt that they hit just about the right level. I also had a table round of pictures of famous people which kept people going during the break.

Keep up the good work

Ann

I had managed to record the sessions that Fern is showing and I was quite shocked with what I saw, But it has only made me even more determined to train hard and eat healthly. It wasn't what I was expecting though It looks much harder than I first expected. Will have to look at Hill cycling!!!!!!!!!!! We will have to keep a watch out for those lethal camel thornes OCH!!!!!!

Hi everyone!  How's it going?  Its all been very quiet here since Fern's Video diary on this morning.  Are we all shocked into silence?!!!!  I've been feeling exactly the same 'What have I done?' and yes... lots of hill cycling.  Did get very emotional watching it and so did my family, they all wish that I wasn't doing it (they want me to get on and have another baby!), but at the same time are 100% supportive.   It certainly looks alot harder than I ever thought, but its the thought of leaving my family behind, doing this on my own, so to speak, oh I know i'll be meeting up with you guys and we will all be there to support and look after each other, but its not the same is it?   Very quiet with the fundraising at the mo, obviously got to get christmas out the way first.  Have plans for Feb, march and april so will be busy come january.  The training is also non existent at the moment, difficult to get out with a 8mth old baby, well thats my excuse anyway, its got nothing to do with the weather...honest!!Have asked Father Christmas for a padded bike saddle!!

Hi Loz, As you say everything has gone very quiet, i haven't managed to contribute much to this forum but i have kept reading it every few days. I watched the Fern thing and felt very emotional i have 12month old twins and nearly died giving birth to them, i am doing the cycle on my own and am finding the motivation to get out at the moment very difficult, bloody weather it doesn't help. I keep thinking if i can get Christmas out the way then i can really get into it and the fundraising, everyone keeps saying don't do anything until after xmas as they are all a bit tight until after the xmas expense.

Hi Friddy, we all have our own special reasons for doing this challenge and obviously what you went through with your twins is your motivation and determination you need to successfully complete it.  I heard about the charity at the time of sufferring my 1st of 2 miscarriages and i think it helped me get through the hard times (that and the support of family and friends).  However when i became pregnant again the whole idea of doing anything for the charity just got forgotten about.  Freddie was born in March and it was months later when the charity wrote to me again & basically that was it, the chq was sent off straight away.  I do frequently (more frequently since watching Fern!) wonder why the hell I'm doing this, but then I look at Freddie.  The weather really doesn't help the training and in all honesty, I'm not going to start until the new year.  Where are you from?

Hi everyone, yes it all did go a bit quiet here, pleased I am not the only one struggling with the training and I too think I will start seriously in Jan, lets keep on motivating each other to stay on track! I think in the New year that we will be invited to London and that should help spur us on when we have all actually met each other don't you think. I was hoping that Action would have sent us a list of participants by now so we could contact those who are near us, as not all will be using this forum. I have been in contact with someone, who did the ride last week, the week after Fern and she said it was great, and that she felt that Fern's week covered by the TV used material that just made good TV, whilst not easy by any means, she said it was a fabulous experience, this has helped me no end this week as I was feeling fairly scared after watching it. I find it facinating finding out why people are doing this. Part of my reasons are that I hated sport of any sort at school, and subsequently have been overweight and unfit for most of my life, but I am very stubborn and felt I needed to set myself a challenge to be fitter and healthier than I have ever been, before it was too late, I saw the advert for the ride, and just thought that's it, I will do it, and show everyone, but mainly myself that I can do it. I have 2 very healthy daughters, I had a few probs with the pregnancies, but I also have a very healthy Mum and a very well Gran of 99!! and just felt that helping this charity was my way of celebrating the fact that the women in my family have been so blessed with good health.

Hi  Everyone

I just wanted to share with you my excitement. I sent our local paper a press release and they followed it up with an interview. The article came out yesterday accompanied by a lovely pic. You can't see the pic on-line but you can see the article here: www.cotswoldjournal.co.uk/news/

The reporter has made a really good job of it and I am hopeful it might raise some money. So for those of you who haven't sent out a press release yet, why not give it a go.......

I have just been reading through what everyone has put about training and fundraising, i'm struggling a lot my son was born very early and this caused him to have a deficencey in dopermean which has left him with ADHD so he takes up nearly all of my time. Its nice to see that although we all have are own reasons for achieveing this challenge that we can still all support each other on this forum. I too had an article in the shropshire star over 3 weeks ago it has only generated a small response but then its was better than no response at all. I would like to wish you all a very merry christmas and a very good new year, and hope to see you all in the new year when we eventually meet together.
