Kyle,
The West Highland Way starts in Milngavie so you could walk part of it, never done it myself, but apparently parts of it are meant to be quite tough. You can walk to it from the town centre through Maryhill, or if ur not that adventurous the trail officially starts at the back of the train station in Milngavie. It runs all the way to Fort William, takes roughly 7 days to walk the whole 95 miles.

Hi Kyle,
Have you been intouch with any of your local supermarkets to see if you can do a bucket collection?
I have not done one myself yet but i am working on it, apperently you can raise quite a bit of money through this, and your not constantly asking the same people for sponsorship this way.

Hi Jen,
I completed the Inca Trail in 2003 it was absolutely fantastic! In general the gradient is fairly even, although there are a few steep sections and of course there is Dead Womans pass at 4200m which is tiring. You will go through many different temperatures, although the weather should be dry in May.
Don't forget to look around, take time to appreciate the scenery, there are fantastic views and several ruins along the way.
Most of all, enjoy it, yes it will be hard work and of course there are limited toilet facilities at best but by far the most memorable thing will be your first sight of Macchu Picchu itself.
Next year, I've signed up for Everest Base Camp in aid od national Association of Colitis and Crohns
Good luck
Katrina

Hi !
A friend mailed me yesterday to tell me to watch Extreme Dreams and see what I was letting myself in for! OMG! Where was the sunshine and room service ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)
Fundraising has gone much better than I thought, over half the minimum amount now! I still have some more avenues to explore. Funny I dreaded raising the money more than the physical side of the challenge and yet I've really enjoyed it. Infact, friends have said I've become something of a sponsorship 'tart' asking anyone and everyone to part with their money!
Haven't started training in earnest yet, always seemed to be something getting in the way during the summer . Starting a new gym programme next week, then hopefully head for the 'hills' mid October. I used to do a lot of walking, but have never done more than 2 continuous days hiking. As one of the reasons I'm doing this is to mark my 50th birthday (why oh why didn't I choose ten days in Barbados, lol) I guess I will be one of if not the oldest on the trip.....but I shall do my utmost not to slow down you younger, fit things ha ha!

Hi guys,
Be reassured a bit - the Choquequirao trek is a bit more difficult than the one we'll be doing. It's a bit further off the beaten track and a bit higher. We also don't have that daft crossing of the Urubamba that looked a bit hairy! Thank gawd... I'm six weeks from leaving for my trek and was having a stress about my fitness levels!!
Any of you bought The Inca Trail by Richard Danbury? It's a great guidebook. The Choquequirao trek is shown on p263 and you can see the trail maps key for comparison on p320.
Another GREAT book is the coffee book Realm of the Incas by Max Mulligan - beautiful images that will really excite you about your trip!

BTW... for anyone watching the BBC 2 show and panicking about the trek they're doing. I've posted a map of the routes of our trek v. the one they're doing on my blog.
Visit my blog page (link below), scroll down to the 'photo gallery' link on the right, then click on the 'trek' folder in it. Click the image a couple of times to increase the size of it and you'll see the 2 locations. Should put you all at ease!
