Becs

I am at "work" now! No point in asking me anything though I just cant concentrate at all! How dare people interupt my panicking and forum posting with work related issues!

Yep I know it is weird but wipes, lipsticks and mascara were being confiscated when we went on holiday last year. You can take anything under 100mls but I dont think that means loads and loads. Just put it all in a clear bag and when you go through the scanner place it on its own in a tray and you will be OK. I have got lipgloss, wipes and hand cream. You can take whatever you want in your checked in baggage.

So sorry to hear about your son, I hope he is OK, does he seem overly anxious about you going? I would have thought if he was it would manifest in some other way more like bed wetting than retention. I know my lot are older but I just think what is the worst that will happen.........They will eat takeaways and junk all week and I will return to a pigsty, or more likely they will live in sqaulour all week and have a mass clean up Sunday morning!

We will all look after each other and be OK.

Lx

Busy packing but once I have all the essential items in the bag theres not a lot of weight allowance left and thats with me also using a 30litre daysack as hand luggage. Just can't justify removing any of the carby foods and who'd have thought the isotonic powders would take up so much capacity....and don't get me started on all the meds. At least i've got spinning tonight to take my mind off things! Jan x

just tried the suitcase and can't decide between larger (actually huge!) suitcase and more room or squishing everything into the little case (which isn' that little) - thinking that wont actually be bringing half of it back with me - apart from stocking up on rum

work is so busy - Lesley is right people ask me questions and i am thinking about deep heat!

You will need to get a ziplock bag to put any rum in your suitcase in as you don't want to soak all your clothes in it. Apparently Air France will take any alcohol off you if you carry it through customs there so it must go in your hold bag. Jan x

One of the girls on an earlier ride has posted somewhere on this thread ( page 41 about middle of page) about the alcohol being confiscated in France. So perhaps it will be best to be prepared.Jan x

Its to do with what you can carry through customs. You are only allowed liquids under 100mls the same as when you go out so any duty free bottles need to go in your suitcase, if you buy from Havana airport you are not going to be able to put it in your case and when you get to check in at Charles De Gaulle for Heathrow they wont let you take it through.

I am going to look out for plastic bottles in Cuba and pack it well in the middle of my case!Smile [:)]

All this talk about alcohol, I could just do with a nice medicinal mojito now.  I know it's only 0920 in the morning but needs must and all that!  I've pretty much stayed off alcohol since the new year so when I get to that hotel on Thurs night I'll be under the table at the first sniff of the barmaids apron.  I presume we are having a couple of glasses of something to soothe the soul??  I'll need that and a very big box of tissues!

I'm suddenly really, really wishing I was doing this with a friend I already know.  I'm so glad that I've met some of you guys but I've just realised that I'm sharing a room with someone I've never met before and I now feel quite sick!!!  What on earth am I doing????

Panic, panic, panic.....

Bec x

Hi, I don't know how I'm going to get through the next couple of days, real mixed emotions but really looking forward to it. Just found a new product in Boots - not Deep Heat but Deep Freeze it does the same thing but it feels cold....I think I see an addiction coming on!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be fab to meet everyone on Friday but not really looking forward to the long journey time as I'll be far too wired to sleep. Jan x

Hi everyone!

Hi Jan! I use something called Biofreeze and it's brilliant - I'm guessing it's similar?

Hi Bec! Hope your little boy is feeling better? How do they always manage to catch something/hurt themselves when something big is happening??!

Hi Lesley! As I said to Bec, the hills (undulations as my husband likes to call them!) around Essex aren't at all impressive so 40 miles is probably the same as your hilly 17 mile rides! I've had to do a few long ones as I've just not managed to maintain my fitness levels and I had to prove something to myself mentally to boost my confidence - not sure how my confidence felt at the end of the ride though as I was exhausted and it proved how unfit I am!! Hey ho!

I'm starting to feel really excited about everything especially meeting all of you and putting names to faces! I'm terrible with names though so please bear with me! Actually, I'm excited and petrified at the same time which is a bit like being on an emotional roller coaster!!

See you in 2/3 days depending on who's going to the hotel!!

Alex

Travel [ap] only tonight in our own beds!
Reply Quote
hi guys, sorry i've not been on for a few days, i think that i am really struggling with the idea of actually doing this. it seems to have come around at a light speed. i can't believe that i have only got tonight to snuggle down under my duvet! and then its time to go!

my packing is still a nightmare i still have piles and piles of things to take and my first aid kit seems to take up at least a third of my bag! i know i can't put it off anymore and am going to sort it tonight. this really is not like me to leave it to the last minute!

i'm annoyed that i have come down with a cold, after moths of avoiding all ill people it seems to have appeared from nowhere!

how many pairs of trainers are you guys taking?

and is it on the way out or on the way home that we have to wear the stunning AFC tshirts?

oh god i need my rescue remedy!

absolutely bricking it today - was up at 5 packing my case again and seeing if i did really need to upgrade to the larger one - am still undecided :-/

this is awful - for a reasonably intelligent person i can't seem to make a decision. last day at work today and have a feeling that something will go terribly wrong - i really wanted tommorow off to spend with the hubby but its looking less and less likely.

Niki - i am taking one pair of trainers, one pair of nasty flipflops and one reasonable pair of flip flops.

does anyone have one of those luggage weighers? and if so where did they get it from? i am down to what i think is the bare minimum and frightened that i might have to take stuff out

must do some work now! although really dont want to

looking forward to tommorow night in the sauna xx

Hi Everyone

It seems we are all feeling the same at the moment. I just cant concentrate and leap from panic to excitement within a millisecond!

Ellie,I have weighed my bag on my bathroom scales for a rough guide but I will stll panic up until it actually goes through check in. I am like you and cant possibly take anything else out. My advice is do as much as you can at work today and then make a priority pile for when you get back, I need to keep reminding myself that I am only away from work for a week and it will all still be there when I get back. The problem is everyone knows that I am going and keep wanting me to "just sort this out before you go" ARRRGGGHHH!!! leave me alone, I need to figure out how to fit the plug in my bag to go with my kitchen sink!!

I am taking one pair of cycling trainers and flip flops.

I just cant wait for that pool and sauna and a nice glass of something alcoholic....I dont care what just so long as it is alcohol!

See you all soon

Lxxx

Feeling ok today, last spinning session tonight and like you all really looking forward to my bed...........just wish I could actually get some sleep in it as I know tonight is when the 'nerve gremlins' will come & visit. Bag at its limits and that's with a daysack to carry on as well as hold luggage.....really can't manage with less .I REALLY NEED ALL THAT FOOD !!!!!!! We're all in the same boat so I guess we'll be ok, it's not as if others haven't done it before. See you at Heathrow Jan X
