Looks a bit daunting but I think one of those rides would be good - get us used to riding in a "pack" - which is quite awe-inspiring to me at present. Be good to see you jb5! Not long now! I surprised myself by keeping up in a 150 minute spin class (for charity) on Saturday - so maybe I am fitter than I think. Couldn't help thinking all the way through it - this only represents one morning ride!!!! Hope the Barn Dance went well Sarahe! I was thinking of you. Stef

Hi All, thanks for those who have organised all this
Managed to get someone else to cover my rugby game so providing I have my bike (going looking this week, practised on my husbands bike a couple of times but that's it!) I will meet you all for the ride, and drive home afterwards, I was terribly jealous reading all the postings and not being able to make it!
Also very nervous not having ridden more than a couple of miles up to now, but I think this is just the motivation I need. Will see how this goes, then try to get on one of the organised events for a longer ride. Think I'll be another one who may need pushing up the hills, but willing to give it a go.
Can I get the address by going on the YH website? Need to start planning the route to get there and figure out driving times.
Is anyone training with the cleat pedals/camelbacks or anything? Need to also start thinking about what to train with in preparation for the main event, but never having done anything like this before it's hard to decide what to do for the best.
Speak to you soon
Jane

Really glad you are coming Jane....pity you are not able to stay over...Susanne is the one to contact regarding the route, but I think we are setting off from Ilam, and I am sure you can directions from the web page.
I have just been wearing an old comfy pair of trainers. I am meant to be buying some new cycling footwear - mum in law gave me a cheque for my birthday last summer but haven't got around to it yet. Don't want anything that attaches my feet to the pedals though! I am going to get a camelback to try as I have been finding my bottle is getting rather splattered with mud etc whilst i am out and about.
Barn dance was fab. Hard work, but great! Raised in the region of £550...haven't added it all up properly yet - had a bit of a family crisis yesterday, so mind wasn't on the job. Hope the spin fundraiser went equally as well. I have never been to a spin class, a bit scared to go to one (which is silly as they are included in my membership), as I have only heard groans of horror when I have mentioned it - what exactly does it entail?
Sarah

Hi Jane , so pleased you can make it. I bought a pair of Shimano cycle shoes in a bike shop sale and they are very good, they are quite hard on the sole and seem to hold your foot properly, they are the sort that can attach to the peddles, but I don't, but i do use toe clips on my pedals and find it helps I also have a gel seat AND a gel cover, double gel! and wear padded pants!, I didn't think they made much difference but went out very briefly on the bike on saturday without the padded pants and could really tell the difference!
Don't worry about the actual cycle route, there are parts that are tough but we can walk them, I will be anyway! and it is a good ride with plenty of stops.
We will start at Ilam I think, if everyubody is ok with that. We can have a chat about the Bike Events stuff, I have a brochure with them all in, it would be good to do at least one.
Well done Sarah for the Barn Dance, I hope I make as much at mine!

Spinning is great, can't cope with the static bike it's so boring. Spinning is still on a static bike but everyone is in a circle and 'spinning' to music. You control the resistance to your own bike and the leader tells you what to do and when; so standing up and sitting down at regular intervals, press-up's to the handle bars etc. Hard work but really good fun!
Also been doing body combat, having said that I haven't been for a couple of weeks, but that is hard, a combination of kick boxing and boxing to really fast music. Or in my case I find I'm just flailing my limbs about to keep up, the techniques have bben forgotten, and I worry I'm in real danger of causing myself a serious injury. After the first time said I'd never go back, but my upper body ached so much in the following days I knew I had worked out so have contiued to go.
Really need to start getting out on the bike and attempting some hills!

Hello Lisa,
Great that you are coming to the Peak District. Should be good fun....I am doing the first event in November this year. I too am worried about my fitness levels. Have made the effort this week and have been to the gym, and a trainer has given me a programme to follow. I really don't like going - its not my cup of tea at all. I would rather be out on my bike, but appreciate that I need to other things as well.
I have now raised over £3000. A garden party and a Barn Dance were the two biggest "earners"...haven't had much luck writing to local businesses...I think they get so many and most have there own charities that they support. Its worth looking through other partciipants justgiving pages to see how they are raising their money. That might give you a few ideas. Someone has recently posted on one of these forums about a Bollywood Evening that raised over £3700 in one night!
Must dash - off to my Body Jam class!!!! A mix of Salsa, Bollywood, Hip Hop, mamba, Jazz etc....hilarious, I SO CAN'T DO IT! But talk about laugh, and sweat!!! My daughter was trying to teach me bits last night. She is a fantastic dancer. She obviously doesn't inherit her talent from me though! Beyonce watch out!
See you soon, Sarah

Hi Lisa, as you will see we are a pretty friendly bunch, all with the same anxieties and fears about the training, fundraising and the ride itself. i am so pleased we found each other, i can hardley belive it a traing partner on my doorstep!
I have, what I hope will be my last major fundraiser tomorrow, A Barn Dance, would have liked more people, i have sold 90 tickets would have preferred 120, but for very genuine reasons many people I had counted on coming can't make it. I am about £400 short of my £3k target so hope tomorrow will meet it.
