Hi all Jordan'its,
Angie, which India were you on, I was on the 2nd one. You are right, size and weight is no problem, I was overweight on the last ride and not improved since. As long as you have plenty of cycle practice leading up to the ride you will be ok. I am far more excited over this ride, it is going to be ace. Good cycling all of you.

My name is Hayley Hoyle and I have just signed up for Cycle Jordan 2009. ">

I am very nervous and feel extremely scared and unsure of my decision, however I can see there are a lot of people on here who have done or are embarking on the challenge so guess I am seeking some advice and reassurance that I have not gone mad!!!

10 years ago at the age of 17 I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome and have really struggled to come to terms with this ever since. Constant mood swings excess hair and irregular periods led to a complete lack of self confidence and a constant battle with my weight.

In march this year I tipped the scales at 21 and a half stone and as my husband and I are desperate to start a family I decided something need to be done. I joined slimming world on the 3rd of March this year and have so far lost 3 and a half stone. My long term goal is to lose 10 stone by October 2009. When I saw the advert in my slimming world mag for cycle Cuba and the charity Women for Women I was excited and contemplated it. I quickly came to realise that March was going to be too soon for me to prepare and lose the weight I needed to loose, but I felt excited I have found a charity I felt passionate about and could apply to myself!

Last week a close friend of mine lost her baby and had a stillbirth. As you can imagine everyone who knows them is completely devastated for them and wonders how something like this can happen. Last night I was sat looking over the latest slimming world mag and saw the advert for Cycle Jordan 2009 - Scheduled for October 2009 (just when I am due to hit target) It was like it jumped out of the page and smacked me in the face. I knew I had to do it!

Not only am I backing an amazing charity helping to combat terrible tragedy among women and babies but It will also help me reach my goal of a 10 stone weight loss!!

Now having not ridden a bike since the age of about 10 and going into this challenge at least 6 stone overweight I am wondering if I have bitten off more than I can chew?? Would love to hear past experiences of other women who have done the challenge and can offer any advise.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post ">

Hi Hayley, Welcome along! I've signed up too and am probably about 5 or 6 stones overweight too! But we'll get there! Thanks for sharing your story with us - I can understand exactly why you want to do this. So you know where we are if you need support!

Hi Hayley
I am on the cuba ride in less thean 10 weeks. Although not overweight i had not cycled since a teenager and i know that there are girls going along with me that aere not at their perfect weight but they can't half shigt and keep up with the rest of us. Don't let weight be an issue. Mental attitude does a lot more!!!!

Good luck with slimming world i thought it brilliant. I lost almost 2 stones a few years ago getting to my target and jump back on it when i feel i have had a naughty period and the weight starts creeping up as unfortunately i am one of those that only has to look at a cake and put weight on.

Where abouts are all you on the Jordan ride live and meet ups are a good idea and if anyone in my neck of the woods i am game for a cycle with anyone. By the way i am thinking about Jordan and i haven't even got this one out of the way

Amanda

Hi Ladies,

How's it going for you all ? - fundraising & cycling......

I went for my first "proper" cycling attempt yesterday - I did 8 miles! What a long way I have to go before next year!! Still, that's the first proper ride I have done (I'm not counting 2 quick attempts to cycle round the block where I live - as they were mostly about trying to remember how to stay upright after 20+ years without any cycling at all!) & can feel my confidence growing each time I get on my bike. Hubby came with me after having decided to buy himself a bike with just 10 mins to go before the shops shut on Saturday!!

My fundraising is going great guns at the moment - mainly thanks to my employers generously donating £500 but I know that this has been the easy part & I must come up with some good fundraising ideas as soon as I can.

Anyone got any stories to share..?

Have a giggle & follow my progress at http://ksmithcyclejordan.blogspot.com/

Hi Kirstie

Well done! it's a great feeling having completed a few miles isn't. I'm cycling along the tow paths close to home. My route is about 8 miles too. Bought a new bike as the old one I had been using turned out to be a junior one with illegal brakes!!
My friend Jennie who is doing the ride with me and I did a car boot on saturday, which was quite good fun and it was in the sunshine to boot!! We are planning a camel racing night to boost funds and a black tie ball for later in the year. We both are still very positive despite some negative comments from people.
