Just back from The New Forest (May 2) just to say it's beautiful and the Cyling must be fantastic (I took the car #bows head in shame#) anyway, I read there is a 30 mile cycle on June 22 in aid of Marie Curie www.mariecurie.org.uk/events,  you only need to raise £50  so I hope to be up for it , but am busy at moment raising funds for the Brighton to Paris Cycle Challenge in August in aid of The Argus Appeal, www.justgiving.com/adamhebborn

Thank you for your response Adam. Yes the New Forest is a lovely area to get off road and plenty quiet on-road routes. You will also find that there is another cycle challenge on the 21st June www.solentchallenge.org.uk which also has a section in the New Forest. That one covers 66 miles. Lots of training opportunities. Good luck with your cycle challenge.

Now to the ladies that are coming down to the cycling weekend. I have had one cancelation. Angie is not coming now, (unless we can change your mind Angie)Amanda, if you find you can get the time off would you let me know. Its for camping Friday and dorm Sat.
Also, for some reason, it has been mentioned that it was a bank holiday weekend at end of month and being me, I just went along with it. Apparently the bank holiday is the previous weekend. (24,25 +26th)Hope everyone else knew that. X E

Hi just to let people know that I will be joining you all on the New Forest Cycle ride.  Am so looking forward to it that I dont care if its windy and rainy (dont hold me to that though).  What time are people hoping to arrive on the friday and are there any websites to look at the cycle rides we will be doing.  Do we know how far we are going.  Are people taking there camelbaks.  Is there anything I need to take such as bottles of water to fill the camelbaks or can we get water there.  never stayed at a youth hostel before.  done plenty of camping in the past, feel ive matured into a luxury hotel women realy. ha ha.

Hi Jane, I too did a lot of camping when the family when they were little uns. Now in my early 50s I feel I should be enjoying the crisp bed linens on downy mattressess, tea in bed in the morning, hot running water....... reality check.

Plan for the weekend. I am organising the riding route. There are many routes around the New Forest that you can make as long or as short as you like. It will cover both tracks and roads, I will sort you all out with a map but think of it as an adventure. There will be pit stops at coffee shops or pubs on route if you wish. I would like to cover about 60 miles on the Saturday but as the terrain is not too hilly like the IOW then this should be attainable. There is plenty of opportunity to make it less, will also have my husband a phone call away with cycle rack on car for any problems - I must let him know that though. If anyone wants to push on at a faster pace then we can have rondevue points (and mobile phones) Would be advisable to take your camelbaks and nibbly energy things. I shall try to post a reminder of things to bring but as I have just finished a 15 hour shift I am a bit knackered but hey ho I am now on holiday and will be heading to Scotland on Saturday. Will pop on line before then. X Elaine

Hi Elaine

I get confused and forgot there are different forums. Elaine i have just ploughed my way through all the chatting and have now noticed that unfortunately Angie is unable to make the weekend meet so i would love to come and use the vacant slot, i feel a bit awful that poor Angie has to miss out to enable me to join in.

As it was only a quick scan of all the posts can you let me know the full arrangements such as what i may need and time of meeting on the friday. Really looking forward to meeting you all again
Thanks a lot
love
Amanda

Sorry you wont be able to make the weekend Angie. I have just returned from a week in Scotland so have been unable to keep updated from forum but glad to see you took the initative Amanda and have taken Angies slot. I have day off work so will be around any time in the afternoon for anyone that arrives early but the plan is to have a jolly on the Friday evening. Food supplied in the way of BBQ or buffet by myself, bring your own tipple. Sleeping out doors in the hostel grounds on the Friday and I am assured that bedding is supplied. Cyling the forest tracks and roads on the Saturday, hopefully to cover around 60 miles. Eating in the pub near hostel on Saturday night. Good idea to bring torch. Sleeping inside the hostel on that evening. Will have a shorter route organised for anyone that wants to have a cycle before setting off back home on the Sunday afternoon. Will post a reminder list when I have got my act together. X Elaine

Hi Elaine,
I've never cycled before using a brolley and wellies, maybe we could start a new trend.

We will have a great time even if it does rain.

What time is everyone planning on getting there on Friday?

Sarah x
