Tis the season to be jolly and all that, so this week's friday poll asks:
What's your favourite Christmas song?
Mine? Just Like Christmas by Low from their brilliant album Christmas. Amidst the morass of saccharine, sentimental, commercially exploitative slush that makes up the seasonal song genre, here is a fragile, melodious masterpiece. The perfect acompaniment, and antidote, to Christmas.
well obviously it's fairytale of new york. everyone knows that: link
or alternatively, David Gray's reworking of "Babylon" as "Santa Claus" for Jo Whiley some time ago - he changes "If you want it, Come and get it, Crying out loud " to "He's big and fat, he wears a red hat, it's Saannttta Claaus". Genius!
The best xmas song of all time is Mistletoe and Wine by Cliffy ....... bring on the good stuff ('Away in a manger' as my least fav)
See here for a good selection of popular songs.
And ones I've not heard, but would definitely like to... like "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth " or "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer "
