Hey James,

Thanks for the great ideas.I have decided to give up chocolate for a month ( including all chocolate products/drinks) to try and raise money for Cancer Research UK.

My daughters and husband are supporting me and so are most of the people I know but a few (my brother included) have said I should do it for at least three months. He just wants to torture me!!!

The challenge was chosen because I am one of those people who are addicted to chocolate inthe same way as some are to smoking, drinking etc,so this is going to be a real test of my willpower amongst other things.

I AM DETERMINED TO DO IT THOUGH AND WILL KEEP PEOPLE UPDATED VIA MY PAGE:

Thanks again for the ideas. There are a couple more on your list that I may well do too.

Caz

Hi again James, Happy New Year.
Just a quick update:

I am now nearing the end of my first week without chocolate and it has been a lot harder than I thought.
My wonderful (ahem cough cough....) daughters and husband have been sitting in front of me stuffing their faces with all sorts of chocolatey things.I have managed to resist all attempts to break my willpower so far and I am quite proud of it.I have gone from AT LEAST 2 family bars a day to absolutely nothing.
Still at least the shakes have stopped now.The only problem is I have now developed a craving for toffees of all things.Funny...I couldn't stand them before.
Still have managed to raise #110 online and don't know yet howmuch offline. Will update page as son as I have a rough idea

I really like the idea of writing poetry for people. Does anyone mind if I use that idea?

This is something I saw somewhere else on the web: Auction a cow. If possible, get a farmer to lend you a real cow. Sell tickets to put SOMEONE ELSE's name in a hat. These tickets could be 5 pounds. Then sell the privilege of having your name taken OUT of the hat before the draw for 10 pounds. Great in combination with a quiz night or other event! Just make sure you have a prize nobody wants to win...

What I did: I organised a virtual tea party. With most of my friends in Holland, were this type of fundraising is not very common, I sent them all two invitations (one to give away) including a teabag and explanation (running the marathon for charity, web address, bank account). Then invited them to enjoy a cup of tea at a specific date wherever they were in the knowledge that I and lots of others would be doing the same thing. I made clear that donations were voluntary but much appreciated and suggested a minimum of 5 pounds. It worked! Got people's attention and sponsorship!
