Its thanks to Susanne really, she had the good idea to start with.
I am sure we will be fine.I am a bit apprehensive, but I think it will be good for us.We'll push each other along, and can take plenty of stops.
****Have booked the 6 bed en suite room for the night of 14th April. they are going to put an extra bed in it for us. Price of room £100. I have paid it with my credit card and am happy to sort it out with you all later.
Just need to decide whether to pay the extra £3 per head as we are not YHA members, or pay the group membership of £25.50 which would cover us all for a year....we could all use the membership card separately...might be worth considering, especially if its a success and we decide to do something similar again. We don't have to decide on this until the day anyway.
Check-in is from 3pm and have to be out by 10am. Just need to take towels, bedding is provided. Evening meal £8.50 for 3 courses available between 6 and 7.30pm *********
Hope thats ok for everyone,
Sarah

That's great Sarah, as you have been so good sorting the room, shall I organise the ride, time for meeting up etc., the ride should take about 5 hours, if we could meet at the YH at Ilam at 9.30/10am, (I know we can't check in but I am sure we could stash our bags) and start the ride in reverse to the way its described, starting at Tissington(or even Ilam itself, I can check that out) at say 10.30am then we should be back at Tissington at about 4.30/5 allowing for lots of stops etc. I will do an itinery get maps etc. and get back to you all if that's ok with everyone.
I am so looking forwad to this I think it will give us all the incentive and encouragement we need!
thanks Sarah
Susanne

This is all great!! Thanks to you both for arranging this! I think we are all apprehensive but as Sarahe says we can help each other along and it will get us all going! If all goes well we should do it again - possibly for two consecutive days in the summer in pastures new! (Come on Stef, don't get ahead of yourself!). I am really looking forward to it. Let me know if I can do anything! Stef

You are a star Susanne! It's great to have it all sussed out beforehand. Sarah - I hope you got my email, I have had real trouble trying to reply to you. Just in case you didn't - I have a big event on Saturday, a last minute thing - so can't make the Barn dance - great shame, cos I am a sucker for barn dances! Have fun - I hope it all goes well. Stef

Wished I'd known you were going up Susanne, would have met you up there. Had a day off from organising things for the Barn Dance, and would have welcomed a bit of company. Haven't been out on my bike since before holiday.Going toget back into the swing of things next week after the Barn dance. Glad you are feeling better anyway.
Yes, I did get your email Stef....sorry I haven't replied. Had a look at your web page - looking good....your spinning event sounds interesting! Bye for now, Sarah

Well I am home, don't know about a reckie, I feel wrecked!!! My husband went with me, and he is quite fit, he works outside as a joiner,he was ok, but I could really tell how unfit I was! i haven't done any real traing since before Christmas and it showed.
Anyway, the good news....
We parked at the YH in Ilam, which looks lovely, thanks Sarah, we cycled a short way on the road to Thorpe and joined the Tissington Trail to Hartington, we cycled into Hartington, and had lunch there, and warned the landlady that 7 lady cyclists may need refreshment in a few weeks! we then cycled on the road a short way to Hulme End and got on the Manifold Way, which was very pretty and more sheltered than the Tissington Trails (it was quite cold today) the manifold way ends at waterhouses, we then cycled back to Ilam. all in all 28 miles according to my computer, it took us about 6 hours but we did stop for lunch for an hour and we got a bit lost on a small section. The tissington and Manifold ways are flat for most of the way. There are lots of places for refreshment along the way. The scenery is very nice.
The bad news.... there were 5 steep climbs, by my standards anyway and I had to get off and push. There are a couple of road sections and 1 of them is a fairly major road and there is a very steep climb after the Manifold Way ends on this road. The tissington Trail is fairly exposed in parts, if it was very windy it would be grim.
Things I could do with knowing, does everyone think they will be able to do this?( as I say I amd fairly unfit and still 2 stone too heavy and I made it, although I am shattered now and my bum is sore!)
Is everyone ok with doing the road sections? it will be difficult I think to do a circular route without, and it would be good not to have to drive, but am happy to go with the majority view.
As we did today we could do this in one day, I suggest the Saturday, if we could all meet in Ilam at say 9.30am for a 10am start, finishing at about 4/5pm, which would allow for a long lunch and refreshment breaks. Then on the Sunday we could do another short section of the Tissington Trail south, to asbourne and return about 9 miles altogether, if we felt up to it before leaving for home. How do people feel about this? Could we all get to Ilam for 9.30? I realise soem of us are only abot an hour away but some much further away.

I am okay for an early start. Don't mind abit of riding on the road...its the hills that scare me!!! Seriously, I will just go with the flow, don't mind what route we follow. Will just have to bear in mind that if we want to eat at the hostel, we need to be back and showered for 6-7.30pm.

Thanks Susanna! Sounds good! I am quite nervous of cycling on roads but with you lot to keep me company, I am sure I will be okay. Hills, well we are all in the same boat I think! The only way to get used to them is to do 'em, I guess - so all part of the game. Am very happy with early start and happy to "go with the flow" Looking forward to it! Stef

Don't worry about the hills, like I said, I pushed the bike for almost all of them, The road are all quiet apart from one really and like you say Stef we will all be together, we will be fine. I am sure we will be back at the YH by 6 at the latest. Yesterday we left the YH at 11.30am and got back at 5.30pm, I can't think of any reason we would be slower than Doug and I were. The cycling on the flat parts is great and I would say 90% of the route is like that.
I am very excited about it , we will have a great time.
The good news is, I only ache a bit today, which suprised me given how far we did, without much preparation. Susanne

Hallo everyone. I will be fine for the early start and with the route. I will be pushing up the hills along side everyone else - there's no shame in pushing - just wait by November we will be pedalling!!
I am so excited today. I wrote to Fairport Convention asking for their support. Just have a look at this http://www.fairportconvention.com/cropredy_news.php#news1
Isn't it/ aren't they fantastic???? I feel so lucky!
