Hi Sally

I am looking forward to rutland cycle, but really nervous, I don't want to slow everyone down. I am doing 11 miles in 1h, but the hills!!!!! I am slow. M y friend Lesley is mad and loves the hills. I keep telling myself hills NO PROBS!!!!! But I am not yet convinced. Hopefully will talk again soon, if I can log on again with out forgetting how to! JANE X

Hi Everyone,

Won't it be great if the weather is like this in a fortnight - perhaps not quite so hot but then girls we have got to get used to it!.

It looks like there is going to be quite a group of us on both days which will be wonderful - I thought it might be useful to recap on the arrangements as they have changed a bit over time - so here goes:-

Saturday

Meet 9.30 a.m. Normanton car park (south east side of the reservoir)  Lunch at Rockingham - return by a shorter route - Total about 33 miles.

Sunday

Meet 10.00 a.m,. Whitwell car park (north east side) cycle round reservoir - 23 miles including Hambleton arm.

I will let you all have my mobile number before then so that if anyone is on their way and gets delayed you can let me know.  I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and my first chance to cycle as a group.  No one is going to hold anyone up -  11 miles an hour sound really good (mind you I can do 30kms p.h - down some of the hills round home!)  Everyone keeps telling me its not a race and I am sure we are all going to have a really great day and enjoy every mile!

Sally

Smile [:)] Hi everyone,

I eventually got back from florida after a 24hr delay! but hey ho we had a great time so I wont grumble too much. I feel really fat n flabby after 17 days of Maragritas and huge meals so now I really must get back into my training to prepare for Rutland. I did manage to get on a bike though for one day in Key West and there are lots of terrified motorists in my wake to prove it! It was the weirdest bike I have ever seen with no gears no brakes and massive chopper style handlebars and took a bit of mastering I can tell you. It was very very hot the day we took them out and we had a massive thunderstorm in the afternoon so I just put it down to good practise for cuba!

I cant wait to meet everyone and put faces to names although I will forwarn you that I am rubbish at remembering them and may ask you several times.....................its my age you know!

Hope all the training and fundraising is going ok. Jane and I have our football tournament on Saturday and it looks as though it is going to be a great event. We have 16 teams of 7 players who have all paid £5 each to participate and have already made over £500, so with a raffle and tombola on the day we are hoping to make a great dent in our target. Two of the guys at work have organised it all and Jane blagged free trophies and I begged the use of the pitches from my hubbies team venue so we have had no outlay at all.I would highly recommend it to anyone as it should be a really fun day too.

Hi Sally

I forgot to ask. Can you give me a postcode that I can put in my Sat Nav? so Jane and I get to the right place!

I am really looking forward to the day and need to get some training in this week now that my liver and gallbladder has had a bit of recovery time!

Can't wait to meet you all.

Hi Lesley,

I hope you have a brilliant day tomorrow - it all sound very organised and impressive - I am always in awe of anyone who arranges an event as I don't think I could organise my way out of a paper bag!

I am really looking forward to next week end, and as you say putting faces to names.  But I am rather relishing this week-end as well.

Over the last few month John (my husband) has been very encouraging with lots of words of wisdom and advice on training and everything else.  When I come home after a full day at work and then go out and do 15 miles - when I come back he says - good now tomorrow you can do 20!  When I was struggling with pins and needles (white knuckle syndrome) he advised on how easy it was to let go of the handle bars - equally when I had to learn to drink on the move, I was also advised how easy it was to let go with both hands.  On the subject of hills - no problem you just stand up and peddle - you can see where this is going can't you!  On Sunday we a doing a family day at Rutland - my daughter and her husband, twin grandchildren and me are going to cycle round (I don't want to embarrass myself next week) - suddenly the oricle has announced that he is going to hire a bike and come round with us - presumably no handed and standing up all the way!  The only thing he doesn't seem to have thought of is that he doesn't do any exercise and hasn't ridden a bike for 40 years and even then it didn't have any gears......... I can't wait...........it may be the longest 23 miles of his life!

Anyway for the posh ones amongst you the post code for your sat nav is LE15 8HD.  I have some WFW ballons so I thought I would tie one to the roof of the car as a starting point to finding everyone.

Sally

Hi Sally

Thanks for the postcode but as you will see next week I am not very posh just rubbish at directions!

I hope you have a good weekend. I must admit it sounds like its going to be fun, but I bet any money your hubby battles on just to try and prove he was right! although a hired bike should be entertaining as I bet it will be a heavy mountain bike. These men are all the same..........my hubby kept telling me that it was me not the bike when I complained about the gears, until he got on it and promptly fell off and hurt his knee!

see you soon

Hi all, I'm also looking forward to meeting everyone next weekend but am starting to feel quite anxious about the ride itself! Since I signed up for the Cuba challenge about six weeks ago I haven't even been near a bike, in fact I didn't even own one until two days ago! I fear that I'll be rubbish next weekend and will hold everyone up.....

feeling sorry for myself but probably down to drinking a couple of glasses of wine after a crap week at work!! x

Hi Suzanne,

I am really looking forward to next week-end - the family did the reservoir ride yesterday (more later) and the thought struck me that I might stay over as well - if there is still a space.  It's an hour's drive each way and I thought it might be nice if I joined in after the ride as well.  I think I recall that you said its self catering so I will bring my cornflakes and PJ's.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to mess about with the arrangements again, but yesterday I did the reservoir route with the family.  If we start from Whitwell it means that the very last little bit of the route is up a fairly long steep incline!  I propose that instead we start from NORMANTON (as for Saturday) which will make the incline no less steep but only one third of the way round!

Also if we could all meet by say 9.45 at the very latest as I discovered that it does get very busy as the day goes on.

We had a great day yesterday, perfect cycling weather and to give him his due John did complete the circuit (moaning quite a bit of the way about his saddle) and in a pretty good time.  The positive side is that he now has a greater appreciation of what goes into the training and has said he would like to do it again.  We did sample the Horse and Jockey at Manton for lunch - very good but I think the trick is to get there early perhaps just a drink stop maybe, we can decide on the day.

I am so looking forward to next week -end - I feel quite excited about it, please all pray to the weather gods for at least dry weather.  If I am like this over the week-end, what am I going to be like when it comes to March!

See you all on Saturday/Sunday in Normanton Car Park - I have a Red Suzuki and will tie a couple of WFW ballons to the roof bars.  I have emailed everyone I know is coming with my mobile number and home email - have I missed anything?  This is why I don't "do" events, I am panicing incase I have forgotten anything, or anything goes wrong.
