Cyle India 2007

Help I've just signed up for Cycle India 2007 having not rode a bike for about 25 years!

Is there anyone else out there signed up for this yet?  Hows the training going for anyone else doing any other cycling event?

What hints and tips can anyone give in preparation.

Best Wishes

j

Hi, i signed up a couple of weeks ago!Same as you,i haven't ridden a bike since i was about 10 years old!!! Have now got a bike, and am getting more confident each time I go out. Have done a couple of car boot sales, and am planning a garden party for next month to try and start the fundraising on its way...Really excited about the whole thing.

Hi Sarah, well thats 2 of us, wonder where the other 180 are!

Yes, I have been out just doing a few miles off road to get my confidence up, trying to build up a number of routes as I get more ambitious. I am also trying to get friends and family to give me their unwanted items to raise money through car boot sales. Think most of my campaign will get going after Christmas and the new year, as I think a lot of people think it's too far off yet to commit to sponsoring!

good luck

I am sure we will all be fine! Have just been out with my hubby on our bikes. I looked the part as he bought me an outfit for my birthday, but I was puffing abit by the time we got home!! .

i went out yesterday too, did 14km along canal towpath, I was puffing a bit too! I have started to keep a journal from the day i decided to apply for the challenge, detailing my thoughts and feelings and training progress, thought it may help in the months to come, when I feel I am getting no where and can look back and see how far I have come, (hopefully) you have both obviously applied for the challenge before I did, I kind of assumed that you are doing the women for women charity ride, which is the one I have applied to do,  but now realise there are lots of cycle india challenges, which one are you doing?  have you had confirmation yet? I am reluctant to mention it to many people, until I have had it confirmed, but am really struggling to keep it to myself I amBig Smile [:D] so excited!

Yes, I am doing the Women for Women one !! I too have kept a diary.......!! I signed up at the beginning of August. Everyone has been really encouraging. I have started my fundraising early as I don't want to be worrying about doing it all next year. Keep in touch, Sarah

Yes I would like all the money needed (at least the minimum amount) by June next year leaving 3 months to just concentrate solely on training. I got my confirmation today so have started to tell people and everyone is very encouraging and says they will help so fingers crossed! Where are you located by the way?

Hi

I've signed up too. Sent the form back as soon as I received the pack...didn't want to give myself time to talk myself out of it. Am really excited about it, though also very nervous about getting fit enough. Have managed a few short bike rides so far (with a good amount of huffing and puffing up the hills!), but am already worried that about getting out regularly during the winter!

Would love to know how many people have signed up so far. I do know that 300 women had pre registered for the details, so am guessing it won't take that long to fill the places. Am hoping someone else in the Peterborough area signs up....think I will need someone to bully me in to getting out on my bike when it's cold and miserable.

Good luck to everyone, am sure we'll be fine and have a great time.

Kate

Hi Kate,Sorry not in Peterborough, but good to welcome you here. I too am so unfit, I have been given an excercise bike, so will try to use that on rainy cold days, like today! So excited about the challenge. I wonder if it is arranged for us all to meet up before the challenge itself? Does anyone know, I can't see anything about that in the pack? Are there 200 places altogether?

I believe that we will be invited down to the Research Centre in feb/march time, which will be good. They also try to arrange a couple of training weekends....I understand that there will be 200 of us all together. Sarah

Hi

Welcome Lalybaba! That's 5 of us now.

I spoke to the organisers when the pack arrived, and they said that there were 100 places. This year 200 women are doing it...but that is across 2 dates. Guess they may increase the number if there is lots of interest. Think it also said somewhere that we will get a list of everyone that is taking part and where they are, which would be good.

Not that I'm panicking...but does anyone know how hilly it is Rajhastan?????

Happy peddling

Kate

No idea, just don't think about it!

I suppose we have a real advantage, in that those doing it this year will be great sources of information for us, on what its like and lots of advice etc.
