My packing list is very similar. 5 pairs padded knicks, 2 pairs 3/4 length cycling trousers, 5 cycling tops. 5pairs cycling socks. Loose cotton trousers and shortleeved t shirts for sightseeing. 1 pair PJs. 1 silky frock - just in case! fleece top and bottoms for evenings. Underwear for evenings and days off. Sightseeing/travelling shoes are a cross between a sandal and trainer. cycle shoes and 1 pair of sandals for the last night. Anything else I need I will buy there. Sarah no wonder your toiletries weigh so much if you have 3 lots of Deet! I have just the one,

As for packing I fully expect to be doing it on Thursday morning!! I'm like the rest of you I can't quite get used to the fact that we are going in just a few days. This time next week we will be going to bed ready for the first day's cycling!!!!!!!!

Haven't a clue about how much deet I would need. Only two small aerosols and a bottle of lotion. I was thinking that I maybe needed more than that?.......

Hi Sarah -I reckon you have plenty:  but worry not, I have enough for the entire Indian population:  if you run out you can always use mine, and then I can buy more for other places.  It is really important:  my daughter (in the Phillipines) is in a low risk of malaria area but is recovering from Dengue fever - not pleasant at best of times, but when 7 and half month pregnant - not nice.  She seems to have got away with it... but put the wind up me a bit!!!!!  And it is down to mossies....

Don't yet know what I am taking, beyond the obvious.  Packing everything else I need (on Wednesday night or Thursday morning) and then the clothes will follow - if enough room.

I have yet to have my hand luggage weighed at an airport...hopefully they won't this time: what with the saddle, the cameras, the ipod, the books - some toiletries (worry not, all under 100 mls).. like Amanda will stick helmet on head if necessary.  There was something else I wanted to ask and can't for the life of me think of it......

Will come back again if I do think of it.....

See you Thursday...

I had planned to take a sleeping bag, based on the fact that its on the list and Donna said she used hers, although I seem to remember sopmeone else saying they didn't...

My list very similar to yours Ann but no frock!

I only have one bottle of deet but today got some anti mossie wrist and ankle bands to put on at night, from Sainsburys.

Hiya all.

Have just got in from work and can't believe how many messages have been posted this evening!

My packing list is pretty much the same as most. I only hane one bottle of deet and still need to get some suncream.
Yes, I'm taking my sleeping bag Stef although it will take up a fair bit of space in the holdall.

Like some of you have said it still doesn't seem real. I've just done my last shift at work until I get back and so many people are wishing me luck but I can't get my head around the fact that in a few days time I'll be in India!! One minute I'm so excited and then I start panicking that I won't be able to do it - these emotions are worse than PMT!

See you all very soon

P.S. Michelle's visa arrived this morning so fingers crossed tha Ali's came too.

hi guys
wishing you all luck.
sleeping bags are a good idea as some nights are real cold.... dont forget you are camping predominently, and temperature drops at night. Also one of the hotels isnt too great so you may want to sleep in your bag then!!!!
dont take too much you really wont need it, and end of ride you get to shop and its real cheap!!! lots of the ladies bought saris or shalwar kamiz[ cant spell them!!] to wear on last night. vets tops are not advisable or are clothes that show too much flesh, once you hit rural rajasthan its like being in a zoo!! they come out of the woodwork to look at you!!! when donna broke her leg we were at the top of a hill and a whole bus load of local chaps came to watch!!!
theres a shop which sells fabulous pashmina's if any one is in to them!!!

hi annie c
talking from experience of extreme groin discomfort i wouldnt reccomend wearing anything under your cycle shorts!! go commando with loads of vaseline, it will save you a lot of pain!!! it really does make a difference, thats as long as your shorts are padded.....

Sorry Angie - should have said they are padded cycling kncks - don't worry I've been going commando all year although I have been using lanacane powder rather than vaseline to stop the pain!! I prefer a dry slide and it absorbs the perspiration!!!! Having said that vaseline is on my packing pile....

Great advice re the sleeping bags etc. I was going to go for a ride today but its hammering down so think I will do the gym instead.

Ann, whats the lanacane powder? Can I get it at the supermarket or does have to be a chemist?

Su, I am sure we will start a new thread on our return so keep your eyes peeled, having said that you might not want to know!

Going to start packing after this, trying to put it off but know it needs to be done!

Will let you know how i get on.

I think I may take a silky dress as well for the night time, good idea Ann

Just an update...Have phoned and spoke to Ali. Her visa still hasn't arrived. she is really down about it, understandably and can't face the forum until its safely in her hands.

The Agency were hoping to have had it back Friday evening and it be with her yesterday - but nothing came. She is going to ring them again tomorrow if the post lady doesn't bring it in the morning. She was wondering if Steph C had hers, as she thinks she used the same company.......

Hi all
Steph hasn't got her visa yet. She has contacted the people and they have promised it to her by 20th at the latest. If necessary she will have it couriered to her. Fingers crossed...

Lanacane powder - have been using it for years. As you know I am a bit over endowed up top and if I don't use Lanacane powder I can (if its hot and I'm sweaty or if I'm not careful drying myself) develop the most awful sores under the boobs. Lanacane stops that happening. You can buy it in larger Boots, Lloyds and other chemists - not in the supermarket. It costs around £6 for a large tub - £4.99 for a small one so I always buy a large one and top up an old small one for going away. It is made of corn starch - not talc so doesn't go lumpy like talc does. It is medicated and its absolutely super absorbant. Don't buy the lanacane cream - that is for 'intimate itching' but no good on stopping frictioin. Don't buy cuticura or any other medicated talc. I have tried them all and they are not the same. i swear by my lanacane and I use it everyday on anywhere where skin touches skin. The only snag is you have to be careful getting dressed because its so fine that the only way of getting it off the outside of any garment is by washing it!

I am pleased to say that in all these months of cycling I haven't suffered from sore bits once and I'm sure its because I use that powder! Of course India might prove me wrong!
