Hi Lesley,

re energy snacks. I'm on the first Cuba ride and alot of us are helping with the profits on boost bars, could be worth a try.

With just 2 1/2 weeks before the training week-end I am panicking!  I have done 1 10 mile ride in the last 6 weeks; What are boost bars? should I be buying some?  Suddenly I feel completely ill-prepared - I don't even know the size of the wheels on my bike to enable me to buy a spare inner tube - and what would I do with it even if I had one!  And as the cherry on top I managed to gain 7lbs whilst I was away so everything is on the tight side!

I have my first spinning class tonight so maybe by tomorrow it won't be a problem - I may not survive the class!!  Have booked two more so shall be going Tuesday and Friday each week, or at least that's the thoery.  I couldn't get out the week-end - too wet.  Do we need to take snacks for the training days - presumably high energy stuff, -  that will really help the weight loss - suggestions please.  Someone told me about some stuff you could add to your drinking water, does anyone know anything about that, should I get some of those?  See what I mean about panic.  I was fine before I went away but now suddenly it all seems so really and I am terrified of letting everyone who has sponsored me and myself, down - how embarrassing if I can't even complete the training week-end.  My I should just take up some sort of knitting challenge and leave the action stuff to all you bright young things!

I am going to try and make the Sunday Saunters on the 2nd if I can re-arrange the visitors we are supposed to be having to stay that week-end. Trouble is they live in Stone and I would want to stay with them on the Saturday night so I didn't have 2 hour drive on Sunday morning, so I will have to be realy diplomatic.  If not I would be really interested in any others and Bec I would love to do the Tissington Trail or any other trail that will help restore a bit of confidence.

H E L PPPPPPPPP

The only good thing is that the girls have settled in realy well and we are becoming great friends - we have had 10 eggs so far and on Sunday we ceremoniously sat down to boiled eggs for breakfast.

Sally, stop fretting!  I've convinced myself that the purpose of the weekend is merely to meet a few more people who are doing the same event as me, to get some tips about the best way to ride my bike, and to gauge roughly where I am in the scheme of things with regard to training.  If we struggle it doesn't matter too much as we've still got months until our actual event.  If the weekend is a breeze (very unlikely!!) we can rest on our laurels for the next few months!!!

Enjoy the spinning, it is tough to start with but I think it makes a world of difference to your stamina.  I've heard on one of the other groups on this forum that there are quite a lot of good looking Spinning Instructors out there - apparently it makes a huge difference to one's motivation!

I've got my training weekend this weekend so I'll let you know how it goes.  When I've recovered I'll sort out a date for the Tissington Trail!

Love to all and keep smiling

Bec

Sally - don't panic...you'll be fine, honestly!!!!

The Cotswolds weekend is a really good opportunity to meet others doing your ride and to experience riding in a big group. They provide lunch at a pub....soup and sandwiches....
You will just need something to nibble on snackwise, fruit, chocolate, nuts anything really.
You can get lots of different things to flavour your water. I tried the Hi-5 sachets, but they gave me terrible wind and tummy ache. I just used squash in my camelbak, and in India, when I ran out of squash, I just used to tip in a carton of orange to give it some flavour.
I met Bec for a ride the other week, it was l going so well, until my bike broke - the steering went, and I couldn't move my handlebars or front wheel! Luckily my husband was working nearby, so he came and rescued me! Felt awful deserting Bec to ride home alone!!! I would def be up for riding the Tissington Trail. Might have my hands full for a few weeks though, as we are having a labrador from the RSPCA....we should get her at the weekend...

BUT DON'T PANIC !!!!!! You'll be fine!!!!!

Don't be put off if you don't like the spinning class...I think you either love 'em or hate 'em, and I HATE 'EM!!!!!

Hi Sally-
I second Bec don't worry too much about these things. You are probably just in post holiday blues-- what with this lovely weather too!
I am officially MAD now- I went out this morning and did 23 miles in the pouring rain and the wind was so gusty - luckily I'm still extremely sturdy- if I was a slim girl I reckon I would have been blown off the bike several times.
I also have RPM (spinning ) and am going to the gym for a bit tonight as well- Tuesday is my big exercise day. Our RPM instructor is fit and in his 40's and really keeps us motivated- he sings while we're spinning!!
The first session I did back in March my face was like a beetroot for about 4 hours after- now it just glows for an hour or so!!
I am really looking forward to meeting everyone at our training weekend- i'm sure there are loads who aren't even near this forum.
Sally I will email or phone you in the next week or so to check details of B+B etc
am off to my Mum's for the weekend for a bit of a rest!!
Really looking forward to meeting you
Keep eating your chickies eggs- YUMMY!!

Love ClareXX

Does anyone know anything about "Self-Sealing Inner Tubes" - should I get one?  It sounds like a great idea

Sally I just reiterate what Sarah E said don't panic about teh training weekend you will be fine. I don't know about self sealing inner tubes sorry, I did have slime put in my tyres and thought it good, I got a puncture and was able to ride on for 3 miles by which time I was back and able to change the inner tube, can't be reapaired though, i now have puncture proof schwarble tyres, and touch wood have had no punctures.

I used Nune (think thats how they are spelt) tabs in my camel back in India, they are hydration tablets and help the body retain the fluid you are drinking to avoid dehydration they were really good tasted nice, just a mild lemon flavour and come in a tube so easty and light to transport, and I tend to eat nuts, fruit and just ordinary high quality cereal bars rather than energy bars and I swear my teh lucozade caffeine boost lemon drink, but of course too heavy and bulky to take to Cuba, but good for days here.

Lesley, Tissington Trail, my cycle India buddies know just how much I adore the Tissington Trail (not!!!!!!!!I hate it!!) But do have some good routes around the Peaks, many of which avoid or partly avoid this awful trail! I love the manifold way and High peakl trails much better. But if everyone else likes Tissington, I'll come along of course

In fact I am up there this weekend cycling with some friends (couples not ladies, and will do one or 2 routes so will feed back next week)

Well I have completed my first spinning class - the Spanish Inquisition missed a trick there!  There are 9 other people in the class - all of whom are stick thin and aged about 20 - I felt like should have my zimmer strapped to the front!!  But I made it - soaked to the skin and I couldn't stand up in the pedals for all the time they wanted but otherwise I did pretty well - even the instructor said so and I get to do it all again on Friday.

Suzanne, and everyone else, thank you for the words of encouragement - I really did help me to feel an awful lot better.  Suz will give the Nune tables a try - presumably you get them at a bike shop or on the net.

I don't mind is we do the Tissington or any other trail - I don't know any of them so it won't matter to me, just the chance to get out and do a long run will be good.

Chooks are doing well and we have had over a dozen eggs already - they just fascinate me and all have different characters.

We're back from the training weekend!! The weather was fabulous, it was great to meet everyone and the cycling was.....fab but tiring! All the staff looked after us really well and you'll get lots of good tips about cycling properly and effectively. There were a few big hills and one HUGE one - it's definitely made me realise I've got to do some more hill work!

Hope everyone has had a great weekend and enjoyed the wonderful sunshine. I'm actually suburnt on my face!!

Hiya everyone,

Bec it was lovely to meet you and Ellen and everyone else at the weekend. I really enjoyed it all. Except my gears playing up on day one and my chain breaking on day 2!!

Sally please dont get in a tiz about it. I wont lie, it was hard in places but the team are so good you are encouraged all the way. If you have to stop or walk a bit it doesnt matter as we all stop and regroup from time to time anyway. We were so lucky with the weather, sitting outside the pub in the hot sunshine eating yummy rolls and watching the Morris Dancers was just great! I hope you are as lucky.I had just water in my camel back and a bottle with Lucozade sports drink. I nibbled on harvest crunch bars on and off through the day. Julie had malt loaf and Jane had Ryvita bars so anything that is going to give you a bit of a boost will do.They have a great mechanic called Reg who saved my weekend so dont worry about puntures etc, just make sure you take a spare tube thats all.

Thanks for the tip about Boost Bars Donna I will definately try them....yummy!

Susanne you are making me nervous if you super fittie dont like the Tissington Trail I definately wont!

Its not hard just incredibly boring, and just a slight incline all the way if you are coming from Ashbourne which is just a drag really, very exposed in places too in poor weather. Was in the Peaks this weekend, whilst you were training in the Cotswolds, I did a route from Hulme End along the Manifold way and then back via country lanes through Butterton and Warlsow  about 25 miles, its a nice route. the High Peak trail is good too from Parsley Hay.

Hi Jude

Nice to hear from you. We had a really good time at the weekend I just hope the weather is as kind to you. It will be nice to meet up on the 2nd. We just need to decide where to go. Jane and I were thinking the Tissington Trail but Susanne has experience of it and doesnt recommend it. I am happy to go anywhere! The alternative route Susanne suggested sounds good.

Hi Lesley

I kind of agree with Sue the trail is good but quite boring so happy to go with Sues suggestion that she did last weekend in the same area

Just need to decide on a time etc - will Jane be able to come along this time it would be great to meet her?

See you soon
