informal ride 4th May Isle of Wight

Angie, there is a shorter ride on this event. We can always get off the bike and push it up the hills and then free wheel down them. Piece of cake really. Went over to Island yesterday as my daughter lives there, so we could always get her to pick us up if the route does get tooooo strenuous.
As for the jelly babies... not sure if they would be strong enough for me but I can vouch for the little jelly beans that they sell in bike shops. I call them my go faster beans. There is something comforting feeling the tiny packet in your pocket knowing you have a small energy release available with a tiny bean. Yes it is legal and it probably is all in the mind but it worked for me. X E

I think it would be great if we all go over together and do which ever ride takes our fancy, no one has said yet if they fancy the long or short except for me, I want to try for the long one!!! maybe pushing myself but there's going to be enough of us to be doing the long and the short. But meeting everyone would be fab and its over a long enough time for lots of breaks.
Elaine do they have lots of nice tea shops onroute... and are you doing the short ride or the long one?
Sorry Sarah couldn't resist the last post, I'm really easily amused, again, I was all over the floor.
Come on Angie, it will be fun if you don't I may have to use the crying icon on my posts

I would like to give the long one a go - I think. There will be plenty of opportunity to admire the scenary and take breaks.
My advise to anyone coming over would be give it a go. Its not a race (is it?)
For anyone thinking of the New Forest weekend 30/31st May could you check out the posting on that link for lodging as I need to book places. This particular YHA would prefer to have a single contact which I am prepared to be but due to high demand of the hostel we need to let them know numbers for the few rooms available.
Happy cycling....X Elaine

Hi Angie .. Ferry details I booked are ... SOUTHAMPTON TO EAST COWES DEPART Sun 4 May 2008 @ 08:00 (Arrive 09:00 hrs) EAST COWES TO SOUTHAMPTON DEPART Sun 4 May 2008 @ 18:30 (Arrive 19:30 hrs)
Will try for the long ride but so unfit as only ride to work and back at the mo which is less than a mile each way... but cycling with others will make me carry on more than if I was by myself. Looking forward to it.

You can decide part of the way round whether you want to do the long or short ride. The first part we can all do together, then you split off about a third of the way around.
For those that want to stay over in Southampton, I think the cheapest will be Etap. I live fairly close by so won't need to stay in hotel. I'll have Donna staying overnight. I've got a camper bed if someone want to sleep in the lounge. Maybe Elaine or Julz have a space for someone to stay?

If you're happy to have Angie stay with you Julz that would be great. Maybe we should all come round to you have have one big PJ party. Only joking, wouldn't put that on you. It looks like there will only be 5 of us doing it.

It depends on which day you go for. It would be good to get some more practice.

Hi everyone,
I went over the IOW map today with someone who lives there and does a lot of walking. We have put sad faces on the map when it comes to a steep hill. There seems to be a lot of sad faces. We'll be fine though, I will take a large stock of Ibroprufen and Paracetamol, plus my Jelly Babies.
