I went to Woolies today and got a pack of 36 pencils, pack of 4 sharpeners, pack 6 rubbers and 4 notebooks, hopefully this will be OK. I had also stocked myself up on some more toiletries and medical stuff and I have to say the bags weighed a ton!!!
My assos cream arrived today and it looks pretty good. This came reccomended by experts and is a chamois cream. you rub some into your shorts padding and also onto yourself and it helps keep you fresh and prevents infections and so on. At te end of the day you can rub more into the shorts pad and air dry to freshen them up for the next day if you wish. Mine cost about £11 on line.
I was looking today at the lunch menu and it said it was vegi. Does this mean its all pulses and veg curries and I may be very hungry if they are?

You got a menu?! The food was lovely. Freshly cooked. If anything it just gets a bit repetitive....but there was a mix of meat and veggie dishes, rice, pasta, breads, fruit etc. I chose to go veggie for the trip and can honestly say I didn't go hungry.

I was having a good look through my original pack today trying to find the packing list in the 'information pack'. Under the information about food and drinks there is a typical daily menu;
Breakfast: cereal, bread, eggs, and hot drink
Lunch: set up on the side of the road and cooked fresh. Simple hot vegetarian food eg. curry, lentil dahl, bhaji, bread or puree, salad, tea, coffee and Indian sweets.
Dinner: similar to lunch but with 1 or 2 meat dishes included.
The problem with the lunch is out of what is described I only eat the bhaji (if onion) or bread. i am a bit nervous about eating salad out there, and I don't drink coffee and only drink decaff tea, (what about the milk?) Mind you I can easily go 10 days without tea as I don't drink it that much any way.
Sorry I really sound picky, but I am a fussy eater. I could live on rice and meat if necessary though!

Hi,
I have brought some powdered milk which you just mix with cold water and have marked on the side of a water bottle the levels required for mixing, tastes fine in both cereal and tea. I'm taking my own tea-bags, coffee-bags, drinking chocolate and sugar! ( Thank you to MacDonalds, Pizza Express etc. who have unknowingly donated most of the above. Also M&S for my plastic spoons).
With all this and a plasic wine glass I feel prepared for anything India can throw at me.
Looking forward to seeing you all.

P.S Maybe a bottle of Bacardi wouldn't go amiss?
Good luck to everyone in their challanges. Love Amanda

Hi,
Am so excited now, cannot think of anything else !! Went to Tesco's at 8.00am this monring and was looking at the mini bottles of wine and working out how may I can cram into my bag. sad or what !! Was going to go teetotal for the 10 days, but after reading all the comments, have decided would be rude not to join in the fun...At this point have no room for clothes in my case, as full of wipes, toilet paper and snacks.. Silly question but will we shower every day when we are cycling ? and if so where ? was wondering how much shampoo and conditioner I will need, normally wash my hair every day as I walk up most monrings looking like the wild woman of borneo !
See you all very soon..

Bad news Jools.. no showers whilst you are riding or plumbed toilets! you will be sleeping in tents that have a very nice "ensuite" with a wooden pallet to stand on with a plastic jug and half a bucket of hot water!!! but I did manage to wash my hair with that and let it run down to wash me with! On the night you stay at the "palace" some of you will get rooms rather than tents and those in the rooms are asked to let those in the tents use their shower, we had a room, but the shower was just a cool dribble, the bucket of water was better!
the good news is everyone is in the same boat and afer a few days cycling you won't care what you look like, in fact you won't know if you don't look in a mirror, which was my policy! and the tents are very good, the beds are well comfy.
With regard to food, take plenty of cereal bars and instant porridge for breakfast, the food is good, but I found it did get a bit monotonous, I personally did not use any milk out there, worried about it being watered down with unclean water, or juice unless from an individual sealed carton and I decided not to risk eating any meat either. Don't remember any onion bharjis on offer but the naan bread is fresh and very good. Salads and unpeeled fruit are a DEFINATE NO, even in the nicest hotels. The Dr is very good and inspects the kitchens at each place we ate and actually put notes on the buffet if something was not advisable for us to eat. You do need to be very careful what you eat and drink and take bottles and bottles of alchohol gel you will need it.
You will have the best time!

Me too, me too, me too!!!!!
Have just sorted out a load of stuff for a car boot - could this be the start of my next fundraising venture?
Nina and Sally have signed up for Cuba.
You will have THE most fabulous time. I don't go anywhere without my hairstraightners, and have never camped (and had no fancy for it either!!!) but I LOVED India and the camping, getting mucky, not worrying about what I looked like. My answer - a woolly hat at night and cycling helmet through the day. Like Susanne says, you can't see what you look like. Until you get your photos back that is!!!!!!

Hahahahaha! Have just attempted to pack my bag! I am now of the opinion that it's going to be more of a challenge than the cycling! I don't really want to attach my sleeping bag to the outside of my bag but I've got a horrible feeling that I'm going to have to. How's every one else getting on with packing? Have also got that awful feeling that I've forgotten something really important - I think mild panic is setting in!
