Smile [:)]  Hi everyone,

I have just joined the forum very concerned about this bike ride as i haven't rode a bike for 20yrs,  went out today for the first time and did 1.5miles came back and i was dying.  Has anyone got a training plan?  I spoke to action for charity and they said that there was only 120 places and they had all gone.  Is everyone departing on the 11th Oct 2007.

would love to hear from anyone involved I live in Shrewsbury.

Hi there! yes I am all signed up, October 11th, 120 places gone already! I too haven't rode a bike for about 20 years, and I didn't do much then! But I am determined to do it, joined a gym for training over the winter months, i felt sorry for the poor young lad who inducted me and did my plan for me, I think getting me fit and 4 stone lighter is more of a challenge for him than the cycle ride is for me! I live in Stoke-on-Trent so not too far from you, a previous post says we all get the chance to meet up early next year, which will be good.I am doing my first fundraising event tomorrow a car boot sale, and have just set up my just giving fundraising page, www.justgiving.com/suelaird

Yes, I am on the 11th October trip. I did really well at a car boot, people were quite generous when I said I was raising money for the bike ride/charity. So good luck tomorrow!!  I am holding a garden party at home next week for family and friends. Have been given some great raffle prizes, and am having a tombola etc. Just hope the weather holds. Furthest I have been on the bike so far is 28km....not even a third of the distance of the longest day we will have to do!  Trying to get out whenever I can, without over doing it.The old knees start to ache after a bit!! Enjoying going for a swim to inorder to soak those aching muscles. Is there anyone else from the Nottingham/Derby area?

I did well at the car boot, made £161 ! very pleased! Also very touched by the donations so far on the fundraisng page . I have tentative plans for a curry night in Nov. a barn dance/ceilidh in March, an antiques roadshow/valutaion day, sometime I am also having a "whose that baby?" competition at work, which people will pay to guess who is who, and I have planned a trip to the Good Food show in Nov which I have done for the past few years for no profit , but this year hired a bigger coach and charged a few pounds more per person which should realise £100 or so. Good luck with everyone's fundraising efforts!

Great news about the car boot. Was watching This Morning today....Fern was talking about her trip to India  this year. Can't wait to see how she gets on and see where we will be going.

Bye for now, Sarah

Hi everybody

I'm another on the 11 October trip. I've signed up with my cousin Stef. She talked me into the challenge!! We're really looking forward to it but like everyone else we've got to start getting fit as we're both a bit on the round side!  I have been going to the gym for a few months and went out on my first bike ride on Sunday. This was the first time I had been on a bike for years but I really enjoyed it. I was wondering when was the best time to start fund-raising as October next year sounds so far away but having read your posts I've decided to get going now.

I've been to Rajasthan a few years ago as as I remember its very hot and dusty and there are quite a few hills.....

I have 9month old twins so making the time is going to be very difficult but theres nothing like a good challenge. Good Luck to everyone with raising funds and training. Great to see what everyone else is up to and helps to keep motivated.

Hi to Everyone,

I'm Kim and have just received my confirmation pack - how scary.  I'm doing this with a friend Jane - who persuaded me to do it and I am so excited about it.  We haven't started training yet, but have put dates in our diary - but even that was difficult!!  Luckily my kids (6 and 10 years old) are quite into cycling so I will try to get out with them as often as possible and start cycling to school!!  Have been thinking of fund-raising ideas and think our first will probably be Christmas biased so we have time to plan them, maybe shopping evening, children's party etc.  I'll let you know.

We got our forms a while ago, but with holidays, we only sent them off on Monday - after a blind panic that the places might have gone as it was on This Morning - we rang and there were 20 places left!!

If anyone is in the Banstead, Surrey area, let us know and we can meet up - otherwise will see you at training days!

Good luck to everyone so far

Kim

Hi,

I am all signed up too!  My name is Emma and I live in Somerset.  I haven't ridden a bike properly since I was a little girl, I am very unfit, but I guess that will really change in the next 12 months.  I have joined a gym and am trying to go three times a week as well as cycling 3 times a week.  I went outon my bike the other day and could not believe how unfit I am!!!  Anyhow I am really excited about the whole thing

Hi Angie,

Just wishing you luck for your remaining fundraising days.  I would love to know how you get on with the challenge, perhaps you could post some notes/thoughts on here when you get back.

Good Luck.

Kim

Hi everyone,

I am Stef, believe me Ann didn't need any persuasionBig Smile [:D], I just knew she was the only person I could possible ask to go with me, or want to for that matter. Thanks Ann.

It's true to say that like all of you we are very very excited at the moment, and like some of you I am overweight and unfit at the moment, but I know I - we - will all overcome that, my biggest worry is being able to raise the funds, but I am hopeful that that will all come together.

I look forward to meeting with you all, I am sure it is going to be an amazing experience.  I saw the bit on This Morning earlier this week when they announced the women they had selected for the various challenges, but the bit before when they were talking to them about why they wanted to do it had me in tears, hearing someone voice things you feel but haven't dared put sound to.

Take care Stephx

I have now passed the £1000 and I have only been "at it" for a month! Thanks to evryone that helped me make it such a fab day.......
