I've looked into targetting celebrities and was hoping to move away from the autograph side of things- has anyone had any luck with this?

I am taking part to the Inca Trail Trek in October for Anthony Nolan Trust. I lost my mother to Cancer when I was 8, and a close friend to Leaukemia when I was 12, so it is a cause I really feel close to. Any tips would be greatfully appreciated! I was hoping to go down several routes with work, but HQ has been far from supportive!

Feel free to go online and donate! :-) www.justgiving.com/ppchilds

One of the simplist ways of getting to someone you want to speak to, and this includes celebrities, politicians and the really famous people Big Smile [:D], is litterally right next door. I have been involved in fundraising, and specifically charity auctions, for many years. I act as the 'bonkers' auctioneer for 4 charities local to me and each auction raises at least £10k - we have the Men for Sale Auction next week for St Andrew's Hospice. We have to raise many tangible and intangible auction items some of which we just ask the company, say the local flying school for a flying lesson however, we want stuff as well that has 'celebrity value' too, so we have to get in touch with a celeb, how?

Like I said, the answer is right next door. There is an old saying that my years in business and charity work have proven true, "You are only five steps away from the person you want to meet." I was once at a business dinner and made this comment and was then challenged by a person on the same table to put him in touch with Bill Clinton. I simply stood up and asked if anyone in the room knew off Bill or someone who knew someone who knew Bill or could help. Guess what, someone I knew (and I had no idead of this) stood up and said, yes, my brother has played golf with him and they meet occassionally - wow! And guess what, we put them togetherCool [H].

So the answer is, just ask, you never know. I usually target someone a celeb, politician, etc. and make it my business to find someone who knows them and can ask as a friend for their help - it really works. Make friends with press people, particularly photographers - their are many nice and ethically brilliant photographers out there, who win friendship from celebs and they can help to. Just ask!

In order to get what you want, you do have to learn to be politically minded in the way you handle people - practice saying what you want to say as well.

Good luck!
