Hi Jen
Thanks for the email. It was good to hear from you and know there are other people out there in the same boat. The trek promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I am so looking forward to it. The training will be tough though, especially with my knees, but I am determined to complete it.
Good luck to you, your Mum, and everyone out there planning for the 2007 Peru trip.
Best Wishes John (and Angus)

Hey all,
I've not had a look at this site for a few days now but nice to see how many people are logging on.
Has anyone heard from anyone else via the macmillan site.
Adam thanks for dropping me in it with the travel arrangements. :-p
Hows everyone getting on anyway.

Hope you didn't mind about that! Maybe you can sort out the Amazon the Lake and the Lines - all at discounted staff rates please! Not doing too badly and I see you and your Mum are off to a flyer - well done and keep up the good work. I might be able to get an England Shirt signed (fingers severly crossed) to raffle. Will let you know then you can buy a raffle ticket! Good luck

Hi guys
I'm on the trek and I cant wait! I've just set up a site yesterday so hopefully once I spread the word a bit, the funds will start coming in!
I've been looking through other fundraisers sites and seeing what type of activities they have been doing to raise money - generally just gathering info at the mo, but I plan to do the Coast to Coast walk in a couple of months time to raise money (St Bees Head to Robin Hoods Bay) - and that will help me achieve another milestone in its something I've always talked about doing.
I'm also using my local football club to help me organise a World Cup 5 a side tournament - with teams paying £25 per team to enter and the money going to Macmillan. Hopefully I will get the use of the venue for nothing too so there wont be any overheads involved - I've also managed to get a trophy donated for the winners.
I think the trek is going to be extremely challenging, but it's also daunting knowing its not that far away really and its a lot of money to raise! I'm hoping to start a blog soon with progress reports on fundraising and training etc

Just been buying some gear to take with us today and we got a really good deal from an online store through ebay. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/TRAILWINDS-CO-UK-OUTDOOR-STORE.
I let them know I would forward it on so if anyone decides to purchase anything from them can you let them know I recommended them.

Hi there Jen
I'm 40 in Sept 06 (urgh!!!) and I decided to sign up for the trek in May 07 too. I have never done anything like this before so I am quite worried I'm not going to raise enough cash or get fit enough. But I did want to do something worthwhile and to get myself fit, plus see some more of the world, so I thought this would be a great way to do all 3. I am raising money for Sherwood forest hospitals cancer appeal, which is a charity at the hospital where I work (Kingsmill Hospital Mansfield). I am planning on funding the cost of the trek myself so any money I raise will go to the charity, I thought at least this way people won't feel like they are paying for me to go on a once in a life time holiday. I am still waiting for my pack to come through so I haven't started doing much really yet. I have started collecting a few things off friends/family to do a car boot in July. I have made a poster to put up at work to ask for unwanted items/gifts to put in either my car boot or to use in a raffle/tombola. I am totally unfit and I I really need to start getting fit. At the mo the only fitness stuff I do is go to aqua aerobics once a week!! As I live in Derbyshire I have some nice walks to go on, so I've no excuse really. I am considering joining a rambling group. I am also hoping that once I get my pack thro' I be able to get in touch with others in the area that are going on the trek.
What have you done so far? I would appreciate any ideas you would like to share for getting fit and fund raising.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks Michele

The world cup sweepstake idea is OK but I have a better one: a world cup guess-the-score competition.
You make a table of all the first round games. People still pay to join and they have to guess the score in all the matches. One point for correct reult or three points for correct score. top score wins. However you are not restricted to only 32 entrants. You could get a couple of hundred entrants if you try hard enough and there will be more profits go towards the fund total.
For example 200 people at £2 = £400. less prize money of £40 = £360 profit.
I am doing this with work and neighbours and it's like the grand national or the derby: everyone wants to take part. not just 32 people.
I have a spreadsheet already made up. Anyone on the trip can email me if they want a copy.
Best Wishes John (and Angus)

All te best for the May trek - Im off there in October for Anthony Nolan Trust - will hopefully have plenty to tell you on my return to help out with what to take / not take
So far if heard from someone just back is to take powdered sports drink to add to the water on the trek to take away from the taste of the chemical you need to add to purify it.
Anyways - here to us all conquering the Andes :)

Had a look at your blog - loads of great info on there so was wondering if you are going to extend your stay? Also, where did you get your medi tags from? Might get some for myself and put on the back of them "In case of emergency just add alcohol"! Have a great trip and let us know how you get on.

I read recently in somebody's blog about posh socks that are better than wool. However I can't find the article now. Can someone please remind me?

I am extending my stay - yes
But not doing an organised trip - will be off on my own after the trip - got my revised flight details on saturday.
Looking to take the peru rail train from cuzco to puno and down to lake titicaca from the do the islands then onto bolivia. Into copacabana and then sun island before getting back to cuzco to fly to lima - spend a few days in lima before flying back to the Uk
