Hi, thanks for sorting this weekend out. I am only hoping my fitness level does not slow you all down-I am about 10 miles to the hour but only 1 ten mile a day. Looking forward to it.

Hi All
This weekend is sounding good! I am in agreement with Susanne though and wonder how long 44 miles will take us all together. Me and Jane have done 30 miles a few times now both on our own and with the Sunday Saunterers and feel confident we could do 44 but in a group it may take longer. Maybe setting off earlier would be better?
I am off on my holidays on Thurs so wont be back online til Tues 29th. Any arrangement suits me and Jane...thanks Sally for arranging it all. Will catch up with you all then.

Thanks for organising this!
I'm also hoping that I don't hold people up. If the weather would stay dry for a couple of hours I'd get out there and do some practicing. It's been torrential for the last few days :(
Anyway, looking forward to seeing you all again.

Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know that this week-end I have been over to Rutland and checked out the proposed Saturday route.  I think its a non starter - quite a lot of it is on main roads and I think some of the comments may be right about the timings.  I spent Sunday driving round the area and have now come up with a route south of the reservoir through the villages.  9.1 miles to the first stop and 11.1 to lunch - the return route is 13.2  so a total of 33.5 - does that sound better.    I have written out the route and copied plans so that everyone will have a set and I will email those I know are going with my mobile number just before hand in case you have problems on the way.

And shall we say 9.30 at Normanton - by the time we all get there and we get on the road it will be 9.45 in any event.  There is also a cycle shop at Normanton (the same group as the one at Whitwell) and they are lovely in there.  I popped in yesterday and they were really helpful.  If anyone wants to hire a bike rather than bring their own, they can do so from there and the indication was that as it is for charity they could probably offer a discount.  I have the details if any one wants to do this.

I feel really quite excited by the week-end and am so looking forward to it - it will be great to see everyone and for those that have the "Been There Done That" t shirt - we shall be hanging on your every word of wisdom and experience!   It will be really good to hear first hand what it is like.

Now everyone, please use all your powers to secure us at least some dry weather!

Sallybb

I hadn't realised you could go faster than 10 miles at hour - except down hill of course!.  Don't worry I shall be at the back - my excuse is that I am making sure no one gets lost but in truth its cos I shall be the slowest.  My fastest has been 10.1 miles an hour over a 15 mile ride and going up hills is a great deal slower than that.  I am just grateful it doesn't get dark till late!

I have come to the conclusion that this is one of the problems of training on your own, you have no measure of how well you are progressing - I am sure you will be very pleasantly surprised when we all get together - I am certainly hoping that is the case, but I shall just be happy to finish, whether I am at the back or not.

Looking forward to seeing you in August - it will be so great to put faces to the names on here.

Hello Sally, You've gone to so much trouble to arrange the weekend so thanks again! I must admit to feeling relieved that the miles have been cut back a bit. Contrary to what everyone else has said it will DEFINITELY be me at the back - I've done no cycling yet since I signed up to this challenge! Looking forward to it though! I'll have a word with my mum about the weather, she's pretty religious and seems to have some influence over 'him up there'...!!

When our India group did Rutland last year we did 2 days and stayed over at Thurlby Youth Hostel, its about 15/20 mins from Normanton/Rutland Water, its a small YH which is really quite good, i suggested to Jane and Judith that we stay there on the Sat night as its 80 miles from us in Stoke to Rutland, so a bit far to travel each day I am going to call the YH to book us in, anyone else need accomodation?? Let me know and I will include you in the booking, not sure how many places there are

Hiya.

So far as definites are Jane,. Judith, Suzanne, Catherine, Lesley, Jane, Bec me and you - (do we call you "legs" for short?)  It would be useful to know how many to expect - I have done maps but it would be awful if someone got delayed and we went off without them!  Not sure if there is a way of adding to a list, no doubt someone with greater IT skills than mine cane put me right

Come one come all - we will have a great time - if you can't manage both days come for just one!

Sally

Is everyone who is doing both days travelling home on the Saturday and back to Rutland again on the Sunday? I assume so, I will call the YH and just confirm accomodation for Jane Judith and I tomorrow, so if anyone changes their mind and wants to stay over, let me know by then and I will include you in the booking.
