Hi Sally,
sorry its taken so long for me to get back to you. Jackie cant make the weekend in August that you are planning for Rutland, but we are both available on the 16th / 17th August instead - do you fancy doing it two weekends running?!

Hi Guys,
I'm having to do some serious thinking at the moment. I'm considering swapping my ride to the Jordan one, simply because I've started my MA in Counselling and all of the final drafts etc have to be handed in in March. I'm a bit concerned that with the pressures of this and with the training pressures for Cuba I won't do the MA as much justice as I'd like to, or likewise with the cycling I'll be under too much pressure to really enjoy the ride. I'd be in Cuba thinking about what I had to do when I got back, which wouldnt be much fun :(
Much as I'd love to do the Cuba ride I'm thinking that it would be a better idea to postpone the cycling and get the MA completed and then concentrate on training for the Jordan one. I still want to do this challenge and this means that I won't have to give up completely, I'm just postponing it.
I'll be more than disappointed not to be going with all of you lovely people, but I think in reality it's probably the best thing to do.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
Speak to you all soon
Catherine
p.s. I'll still come to the Rutland training weekend :)

hey catherine
i have just made the same decision that you are currently mulling over, you have to do whats best for you, transferring is not quiting, sometimes life just gets in the way, now i have made the decision i feel much more positive, and seem more motivated, i really want to give this challenge my best shot and defering to jordan seems the best way to do it.
whatever you decide to do you will have one of the most amazing experience of your life, if you do swap it will be great getting to know you!!
i have deferred to 1st Jordan ride, going out 3rd October...
Hugs
Angie

hi Sally,
yes we should both be ok for Saturday 16th August and are happy to do Willen Lakes too. Its just such a shame we couldnt make the previous weekend you have organised it sounds like its gonna be great - but my husband is taking me away for the weekend (its my 40th b'day on 2nd August), and Jackie is working. If anyone else fancies it then they are very welcome to join us too.

hi Sally,
really, really sorry to muck you around but i am going to have to cancel the date we arranged to meet in August. I will be starting a new job on the following monday so will no doubt have plenty to sort out. Jackies new fella has also booked a weekend away for the two of them so she cant make it either!! Not sure if there will be another opportunity before the official weekend in the Cotswolds - so may have to catch up then.

Hi All
Its gone a bit quiet on here is everyone on hols?
Just wanted to let you know how me and Jane did on Saturday. We had a brilliant day, the weather was lovely, hardly a cloud in the sky. Apart from a few initial slight hitches...like no refs turning up! the footie went really well and everyone keeps on telling me and Jane how much they enjoyed it and can we do another one soon?!! and we raised over £500 so I would highly recommend it. I know nothing about footie so 2 guys from work organised all the playing schedule etc and encouraged people to enter teams. We are very lucky as we work for a large organisation but there is no reason why you cant have family teams etc. Jane used her bargaining skills and got trophies and medals donated and bought some cheap fizz that the lads had great fun spraying at each other! It was just like end of the grande prix! We did a BBQ and the club opened the bar so everyone was happy.
OK enough chatting. Rutland very close now so must get on me bike!

Hi all,
it has been a long while since I have logged on, quite a few more have joined now as well.
I have been terrible at my training, just have not had the time, and now with my eldest daughter off school, I am finding it even harder to get out. I also really need to get back to the gym, with my husband doing shift work, it has been frustrating getting there around him. I have joined the netball team at the gym, and that has been brilliant, I think I needed something just a bit different, and it is so exhausting it must be doing something good for me.
Actually, now that I read back on that, it sounds as if I am just making excuses, must pull finger and get out there!!
I have been doing some more fundraising though, did a bag packing session at ASDA yesterday, and got £278, which was brilliant as there were only a few of us, will be doing it again in Sept/Oct, hopefully with quite a few more people.
Great to hear about what everyone is doing!!
Angela

Hi Lesley,
Really sorry you can't make it but wow didn't you do well last week. I think everyone must be on holiday - I've still got to wait another 3 weeks. However, in some ways am dreading coming back - I only have 3 week after return before the Cotswold week-end and I won't have been on a bike for a month!!! Help - so far I have put off doing spinning classes but I have this horrible feeling that when I get back I am going to have no choice. Spare a thought for us over the week-end - I keep checking the weather forecast to see if its improved - it hasn't! But Sunday looks good so that's something, it could have rained both days.
Hope you a fully fit really soon
Sally

hi guys
am looking forward to sunday - where are we meeting again? sorry must have missed the part of the thread that gave the details.
Am feeling great this week and bought an actual bike yesterday (been cycling in the gyn up to now).
Just wanted to share - i have been doing alot of walking the streets this week to find raffle prizes and think have struck gold with hairdressers! only one out of about 20 have said no so have loads of cuts and blowdrys and products to give away - i only had to say that i would give out leaflets at an event. not a bad deal.
Am holding a charity Ann Summers Party on 2nd September in O Bar, Braunstone Gate Leicester. If any of you are local you are very welcome to come. would be really nice to see you.

Hi girls,
I cant remember who it was that asked about doing a bingo night.
I found raffles great way to make extra money. I charged £7.00 if they played 6 books and I had a lot of prizes so had 2 flyers as well fr good prizes. We did a line, double line and full house for the flyers. I am hopeless as I do not play bingo but friends rallied round and kept me right. We also did tote numbers which you need someone doing on their own. The money is £1.00 per line and they pick 5 numbers. They can buy as many lines as they like. . At the end of sale you add up the tote money and split it straight down the middle. For example I sold £160.00 of totes. I took £80.00 for the charity and we gave out 2 x £30.00 prizes. The caller just randomly calls 2 x numbers as they come out until someone has the 2 numbers on the same line. i thought it would go on for ever but it does not.
The bottle stall I did 1,200 tickets inside straws cut into four pieces. Inside each straw we rolled a ticket and gave them cocktail sticks to push them through. Such a futer to do but apparently this is the way it is done. I have 100 bottles on the stall and had 2 x whisky. 2 x vodka, 20 x wine, 2 x gin, 2 x baileys, and rest in bottles of hooch, bacardi breezers, beer, and smelly stuff. I scrounged fro months for the bottle stall so all donations. If you ask everyone you know if they have anything at all for the bottle stall they usually will give you a wine or spirit as well as other bits and bobs. Every number ending with 0 was a winner. This sold out very quickly and made us £300. Tablet usual great success and the bingo hall have asked me to make it every week to sell at the bingo , The caller asked on the night if anyone would be interested and they were like fiends. I will do this over the winter to get my funds fro Jordan sorted.
Not everyone plays loads of books so sell individual books or as many as they ask for as well and have price list ready so yu remember what the different combinations cost.
I labelled all the prizes in advance e.g. 2st line , 3rd house etc so made it easy to sort on night.
Oh also place your bottles on the table 1-200 numbers, then 200 - 400 etc so it easy fro you to find prizes when they produce winning tickets.
Make sure you have a pack of cards in case more than one person shouts a winner. You cut the cards and the highest number gets the prize and the other person gets a bottle of wine or wee prize whatever you have. You will need quite a few extra prizes as I had a few multiple shouts. Phew. Sorry to bore you with all this but it will hopefully help. It was such an easy fund raiser and folks already asking when I am having another, I have put a thank you in local paper explaining that I have enough for this year but hopefully it will be a yearly event. Good luck and if I can help in any other way please ask, Be organised and have all your raffle strips torn into 2 x strips of different colours ready for them as it is a frenzy when they start coming in. 2 x strips for a pound but you must have someone splitting all the strips into individual tickets fro drawing as apparently it is illegal to draw them in strips. Have plenty plenty raffle books with you. Be early and have it all set up before they come in as you have no time when they do. Cheery Aly

Hi Lesley,
We were all so sorry you couldn't make it but hope you are feeling better - we have agreed to arrange one or two more so hopefully you will be able to those. Judith was particularly disappointed that you couldn't make it as they were looking forward to seeing you again and the rest of us just because we were looking forward to your company
.It was a rather select little group of six who set out on Saturday morning, in bright warm conditions and really enjoyed the first 10 miles through the country lanes. Unfortunately the pub intended for our coffee break wasn't open - bad planning by the organiser - so we cycle 1.5 miles back to the reservoir where Suzanne managed to persuade another pub to open and serve us coffee. Whilst we were there the rain started! We did have another go at the route to Rockingham but after a fairly short while we abandond it on safety grounds - the rain was so hard the cars couldn't see us. So we went back to the reservoir and decided to cycle round that instead as at least its on a cycle route with no cars.
We stopped at the Noel in Whitwell by which time we looked as though we had just stepped out of the shower - I think the landlord felt sorry for us when we asked if he minded if we came in. They put us in the snug and didn't mind that we made the comfy seats all wet ; somewhere to hang up the soggy coats; wonderful homemade mushroom soup and warm crusty bread and loads of coffee. After an hour we felt almost human and whilst it was still raining we decided to go on and do the rest of the 20 miles.
We had a good night at Thurlby Youth Hostel and on Sunday did the reservoir again but in much better conditions and could enjoy the lovely scenery. Mind you was I tired when I got home last night!
We all really enjoyed it and for each of us it represented achieving different things - Bec hadn't been out on her bike before but had been to spinning - wow - Ellen had only just signed up - hope the gel seat helps Ellen and the soreness does go fairly quickly! Lorraine, who didn't do hills - does now. Just a brilliant experience and a taste of what it will be like in March (Ellen has just come back from honeymoon in Cuba and said it was wonderful).
We have all agreed that there is much benefit in meeting up and I think another one will be arranged for early October - to prepare us for the official training week-end. Hopefully by then you will be fully recovered and will be able to join us. I think there is a suggestion we go to the Peak District next
