Just found out that we can take our own saddles this weekend - yay! That's a relief.....
Feeling concerned, had a head cold all week so not been able to do ANY cycling - can't decide whether that's a good thing or not, maybe I've conserved some energy!

Hi Ladies,
How was the training weekend? I coulnd't go to this one as it is my sons birthday today plus my hubby is on night shifts all weekend.
How is everyone getting on? I'm worrying myself that I've not done enough training - although I know I am fitter than I was...
...I am doing 3 spin classes each week, trying to get out for 10-15 miles on 2 evenings a week and then doing 20-30 each day at the weekend (except today - done nothing at all today!)... BUT I still cant cope with the hills :-(
Mind you - this time last year I was pretty much "allergic" to exercise, had almost no idea what a spin class was and thought 8 miles on my bike was a HUGE distance - now if I do 10 miles in an evening I find myself thinking "only" 10!!
Can't believe how quickly the time has gone by & only 3 weeks (or 2 for those of you on the 1st ride) left to go!!!

I've just had jabs for Tetanus (combined jab with Diptheria & Polio) and Hep.A/Typhoid - had one jab in each arm.
As someone has already said, I think they are "recommended" rather than "required" but I was overdue for a Tetanus shot anyway so thought it was a good idea.
Not sure what the costs are at NHS GPs as I went to my work's doctor and she very kindly said she would cover the cost of my jabs since the trip is for charity :-)
Both arms have been a little achey over the last day or two but nothing too bad...

Hiya
The training weekend was good fun, if you don't count the actual cycling!! The positives are that we met so many lovely people, picked up many hints and tips and words of invaluable advice - like, we didn't know we couldn't wear vest tops on the cycle, we missed that in the literature! Got some advice on gear changes, going up hill, saddle and handle bar height etc. etc. all good stuff.
The negatives.... ignorance was bliss..... I now know exactly how hard it is going to be and that I'm not as fit as I thought I was. There were approx 50 cyclists on each day and I was near, or at, the back on both days. I was disappointed that all my time and commitment in training did not appear to have paid off as well as I'd hoped. We did 45 miles Satuday, then 42 miles on Sunday - there were some seriously fit cyclist there but I just could not keep up, even on the flat. I'm praying that there will be more people in Jordan at the same level as me, as I don't fancy cycling on my own at the back all week!
Fern was there for the training too - she'll be on Event 1!!!!!!

At least you know what to expect I'm still in ignorance and I know I am not as fit as I need to be. I havn't followed the schedual at all as I havn't had time. So if you are on the first ride I will be joining you at the back. Has anybody received the 2 T-shirts we were meant to get or the luggage labels?

Hi Andrea
Glad to have the company!
There has been a delay on the T-shirts so they are considering NOT sending them out because of the postal strike - instead they will hand them out at the airport. We will have 2 each and the good news is they are proper cycle tops, not T shirts. I'm not expecting mine to fit - I noticed when ordering that the largest size was XL (14-16) so I ordered that, assuming that I would lose a bit of weight beforehand - no such luck! May have to cut the logo off and pin it onto another top!

Thanks for the message. I have just received the labels in the post today. Also the names of the hotels. I have been looking them up on the websites it makes it all the more real. I just want the third to hurry up now. Only 8 working days left but the sad thing is only 10 training days left. I still need to borrow a sleeping bag and get some more cycling shorts. See you all soon.

Hi Andrea
Don't want to worry you, but the marshall at the weekend advised us not to do ANY training after this weekend. She said just rest yourselves and focus on getting packed and ready for the trip. Conserve your energy. Therefore, only 4 more training days!

Hi girls,
I was just wondering how much spending money people are taking?

O dear I had better get on my bike tonight then. I am going out for a meal at the weekend so no cycling there. In answer to the other question it suggests about £150 spending for trips, poastcards drinks at night etc.

Don't forget all the wine I will be drinking as well. I think it would be dangerous to other vehicles if I went on my bike the next day!

I am determined not to get on the bus. The joke with my friends is that I will tie a rope to the back of the bus and be pulled along. Ha ha that sound good to me I bet a few of us could fit on.
