Hi,
I'm taking part in the above trek with MacMillan Cancer relief and would like to hear from any others who are also taking part.
I would also be grateful to anyone who has already trekked Machu Picchu and would like to share their experiences.
Also if anyone would care to sponsor me you can do so at http://www.justgiving.com/jen2trekperu.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
Jen

Hey Jen -
At the top of this page is a search box. Stick 'Machu Picchu' in there and you'll find loads of posts from people who have done, or are doing, the trek.
Good luck,James
Hi Jen
I'm Carol and I'll be trekking to Machu Picchu with two friends, Carol and Kath. I'm really looking forward to it but I think the real challenge will be getting fit for the walk and raising the money. I keep thinking it's a long way off but I'm sure the time will fly so we're going to have to get organised and start a training plan and a timetable of events.
Good luck with the fundraising. Maybe we'll meet on one of the pre-trip get togethers, I think York will be our nearest venue which is yours?
Carol
I have also signed up for this as well. Not quite sure what we've let ourselves in for - altitude sickness and all that!
Macmillan also have their own forum -
http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Share/Discussions/Fundraising/Home.aspx
I left a message on their a few days ago but no reply as yet. Never mind, this isn't for twelve months so I'm sure in due course other people will be leaving messages. Good luck with the fundraising! Adam
Hi Carol,
It's nice to hear from those I'll be travelling with. I'm just starting to realise how big a challenge I've taking on, trying to get fit and raising the money.....we must all be crazy. It does seem like a long time away but I'm starting to panic already about raising the minimum sponorship.
Edinburgh is the nearest venue but if it ends up being somewhere down south I think I'll make the effort to travel down as I'd like to meet everyone before the actual event.
Good luck with your training and fundraising.
Hi Adam,
It's really encouraging to hear that others are as daunted by the trek as I am. Saying that though I'm really looking forward to the trip, roll on May 07.
I'm going to have a look at the MacMillan Forum and post an entry there. Hopefully you should start getting a few replies as the last I hear the spaces for the trip were just about full.
Good luck with your training and fundraising
Hi All,
I've also signed myself up and have started the fund raising in earnist. Held a cricket match at the weekend and raised over £100 which is a good start, we started and it was over cast, started to rain but we just played on and fair play to everyone, they kept going.
Next fund raiser is in July and is a 1 day music event here in Durham, details and updates are here http://www.quid-durham.com
How is everyone else geting on with the fund raising?
York or Edinburgh are going to be my nearest places to meet.
Biggest concern that I have right now is actually the medical form, I took it to my GP to be signed and he said he would only do it with a full medical which is going to cost me £108, ouch
Looking forward to meeting you all next year.
Al.
Sounds like you're getting your teeth into this! Nice one. Good Luck with your Durham fundraiser. Not really surprised about having to pay £108. for a medical. I'm waiting for my cracked ribs to mend before I go for my medical! At the moment I keep writing letters asking for support. Some really good responses so far and clients through work are being really supportive. Looking forward to the pre-meet get togethers and putting some faces to emails. York is only an hour away. There seems to be more going on here than on the Macmillan Forum but this may change in time. Macmillan forum is at -

Good luck! Adam
I actually tried to leave a response on there and it has not appeared thus far. I said I would actually use this one as it's a better one to use.
Looks like your well on your way! I was pround of me £300 in a month but 2k already.......whoosh
Your £300. is something to be proud of - keep that up and you'll be fine.
I set up a blog and wrote to Estate Agents and others Companies I deal with inviting them to sponsor me £100. and if they did then I'd put a link in the blog to their website. The idea is then to publicise the blog in the local papers, local radio etc. Good publicity for them and helps raise money for Macmillan. Its worked very well. Also every individual who sponsors me gets a mention on my blog. After the initial flurry of big donations things have slowed down but still getting a good show of support and now just trying to raise whatever I can. Have a look at my blog for some ideas. You can also put a link into your JustGiving page and to Macmillan.

Good Luck, Adam
Hi Alan,
Glad to hear from another participant.
My fundraising's going ok, still a bit daunted by it all as my mum and I will be taking part in the trek, we've got double to collect as it's the same people we're asking plus we'll be holding joint events.
I've asked my work if they will sponsor me so waiting on a reply regarding that but have put my form round the office and so far everyone's been putting down a £10 so it's slowly creeping up. I'm in the process of writing to suppliers and companies I do business with to see if they'd be willing to sponsor me. Thinking of holding a Peru day at work with everyone dressing up etc to see if that'll bring in some more funds.
Edinburgh and York are my closest places for the meeting, hopefully plenty of people will be able to make it as it would be good to catch up with everyone before the actual trek.
Good luck with the fundraising.
I sent an email to a local newspaper asking them to put a small article in to raise the profile of my Blogg and JustGiving page. Just got a phone call from The Rochdale Observer to say they're coming to take a photo tomorrow and will put something in the paper! Hopefully this'll help to bring in the donations!!!! The reporter I spoke to has also done The Inca Trail. She said "Day 2 was hell" and has lots of pictures and loved every minute.
Hi, I have also signed up for the 2007 Trek. Can't wait, it's something I've fancied doing for a long time.
Just the small matter of rasing he money, but glad to see you are all as worried as me. hopefully it won't be too bad once the message gets round friends and family.
I am currently sitting here trying to put together a plan of events and getting more worried about how fast it will come round.
Oh well, good luck everyone. Hope too see you all next year.
