01-16-2008, 22:09 Sharon Cook Joined on 01-16-2008 Posts 10 similar struggles I'm a new member and having read a lot of posts on the forums tonight, it seems a vast number of fundraisers encounter the same struggles of capturing the hearts of people to donate to our fundraising causes.  Some comments I have received in the past are  Why should I care, do they care about me Charity begins at home I'm not made of money I'm not perfect but I hope when I'm older, I can reflect back on my life and think I did my bit for a number of charities.  Maybe by then I will understand why other people don't really care.  Perhaps anyone else can explain this to me? 04-22-2009, 13:38 tokenyaforever Joined on 01-12-2009 Posts 10 Re: similar struggles people make these comments to try and justify why they do nopt donate. it is extremly frustating but wiht work, we can change their minds. we just need to find common ground, personalise things and work hard at showing them why they should help! i have been able to change a couple of these people...not many but every one counts!    Report

I've built a website devoted to kind-hearted people as I reckon we're special but not perfect. But from a psychological point of view  you can't expect people to support stuff they can't relate to and sometimes it's about timing which is impossible to set. If you happened to ask someone just after they got bad news or the kids are screaming, stuff like that. There's a lot of factors and for what it is worth I came across an interesting article last week on the psychology of charitable causes. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/scienceandtechnology/science/sciencenews/3353139/Brief-and-quirky-encounters.html The tiniest of details can make a big difference.
