One thing to think about soon even though May is so far away... booking a hotel for the evening of the 18th May. As if it doesn't start until 6.30pm it would be great to stay over and make the most of it. Those who have done it before will be able to tell us newbies what will happen at the House of Lords.. how long it goes on for, whether and nibbles are included etc. I'll book for the evening anyway and hopefully share with someone from this end. As there are loads going to be going it will obviously be best to book sooner rather than later.

Just a thought...

Hi Julz,
Thanks for giving me Donna's name. I will contact her and get details of the head cam, that was such a great thing, not having to get off the bike and fiddle about getting out the camera, by which time the moment had passed!
By the way, how do you get that ticker factory image on the bottom of your messages? I think it's very encouraging. Not as encouraging as Aly and her bag pipes though. Thank you Aly for playing them so loudly, they really helped me get up those Cuban hills, to get away from them! Only kidding. Delighted you are thinking of your next challenge. What about Jordan anyone?

Aly's version of "Donald where's your trewsers" was the star performance on the night, especially as she wrote it at the Ambassador's party. Just shows what you can do when you have to.

Hi everyone,

Thank you all so very much for a fantastic time. I loved it, even the hills. I was watching the film I took of everyone and it bought tears to my eyes from laughing and being sad that it's all finished. I just need to work out how to get it onto dvd's. Now I'm back to the reality of washing and ironing.
It was also a great 5 days in Varadero with my room mate Donna. I would like to say thanks to Lesley, Mavis, Georgina and Lin.
Though I was very glad to get home to my family.

Love to you all

Hey girls,

Oh isn't it nice to be home, you were all great, thank you so much for making it a time of laughter and fun. Although I don't remember laughing much on day 4.

5 days in Varadero were certainly very relaxing, as Mavis said its not my sort of place, so good job the company was fab.

Sarah I slept like a log no alarm calls from Ashlawn, no uncomfortable pillows, but I did wake up early!

Are the majority of us thinking about China? Does that mean we get to meet sometimes because I'm already missing the thought of not meeting up, you've all been such great company.

Donna

You rat bag, I had a terrible night sleep last night. Didn't go off till 3am which would havee been 10pm in Cuba. Hopefully tonight will be better.
I'm really disappointed as I can't download my pictures. The lead I need to use has gone missing. Went shopping today, what a nightmare, anyone would think it's Christmas.

Hi Everyone,

It's back to earth with a thud. Just wanted to thank you all for a very special time in Cuba. You all made it such a memorable and fantastic time for me. I couldn't have done it without all your support.

Its lovely to be back home, even though Keith and Marcel did join me in Varadero, I just couldn't wait to be back. I've been feeling so hyper since my return - just haven't been able to get to sleep, so have been decorating and decluttering.

Thanks guys for sharing your photos on Facebook. I promise to download mine as soon as I've found my cable.

Jane, thanks for being such a great room mate and putting up with all my faffing about. Donna, when's our next ride? I'm desperate to get onto my bike.

Keep warm and am so looking forward to a reunion.

Love to you all. Mavis xxxxxxxx

Hi Everyone,

A HUGE Well Done and welcome back to you all Star
Star

Star

It is great to see all you ladies got back well and had a great unforgettable time in Cuba. I have been reading your posts every day as you all get back to the forum one by one and I have watched you ride on this morning about 30 times each episode up to now! I am sure I speak for many many more when I say I WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING!!! Is there anything I need to take that you absolutely couldnt have done without, do you wish you had taken other things that you didnt, what was the food like, how were the hills, what were the hotels like, did you get much free time, what time did you start and finish each day ????and so on and so on and so on.......................

I think mainly I want to know how Cuba measures up to the training weekend...how much harder is it really going to be? On this Morning (did I mention I cant stop watching It!) they said that Cuba was by far the hardest ride compared to India and China...........Gulp.

It would also be really nice to put some names to the faces on the TV. If any of you want to describe what you were wearing and where abouts you were (have I mentioned I have watched it a few times?!) I will be able to spot you!

Hi Lesley,
Aly here from Cycle Cuba 1.
If all I could say to you that would help it would be to do as much hill work as you can . The hills are constant and one after another some days and I wish I had done more work on these before I went.
It was an absolutely fantastic ride and you will love it. Take plenty electrolite tablets or satchets for you water packs. Also I took a water bottle without a flip ove lid and it was no use as puddles soak the bottle and it gets manky. Cream your bits every day and you should have no bother in the nether regions. I have got very bad numbness in my hands and I had really good gel gloves so make sure you take good gloves and also scarf around your neck. It is heaven at the water stops when they soak it for you. I was so please at what I was able to achieve and if I can do what I did at 52 and grossly overweight anyone can. The team are terrific but the girls who were on cycle were superb. I know you will have the same comoradery and support from everyone. It is such an excperience and the people just love you !! If I can be any more help please send email and I will do my best . Just keep hammering big hills ..

H Lesley,
Nicky here from Cycle1I'm actually quite envious that you still have Cuba to do................I loved it, although was VERY homesick at times, and I already miss the girls!!
I think one of the most important things to take is a very very very comfy saddle.........I got lucky with mine and my "nethers" didn't cause any probs, but I know how much some of the girls were suffering! also, they suggest not to wear nic's underneath your cycle shorts.........however, couldn't get my head around doing that so I took some nics without elastic on the legs, which were absolutely fine!
I also have numb fingers, gloves are a must but if you are taller than the average lady, let them know and they will provide a bigger bike. my handlebars didn't go up high enough!
also, hand hygeine is ESSENTIAL and it's amazing how dirty you get. Take mini alcohol gel / foam for your hands to put in your triangle bag on the bike.......oh, and moist toilet tissue for the inevitable "Loo" stops in a bush!!
dextrose tablets/jelybeans/jelly babies..............worked wonders when the energy was flagging!
I took a scarf which was ok, but some of the girls had special cycling ones...........don't know what they were called...........like a tube of material, could wear on your head, around your neck etc, which seemed MUCH better than what I had! definately need it when cycling through the villages with the HUGE lorries next to you covering you with black fumes!!
travel wash........brilliant to rinse out cycle shorts, scarfs etc as they get filthy! especially for the night you stay in the same hotel 2 nights as they will dry properly then!
don't forget your adaptor and charger for phone/camera batteries which will be used constantly!
paracetamol/brufen are a must!
It would have been lovely to have some pens/sweets(bon bons"!!) for the children on the way................take your free toiletries each night from the hotel and give to locals on the way, don't forget to keep loose change with you, you will need it to use any local convenience!!
I actually forgot most of the above but the girls are SO lovely that everyone shared around.............so don't panic too much.
hope that helps!
take care
Nicky xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Nicky and Aly

Thank you so much for all the fab advice. I am printing your posts off so I dont forget any of it! I am so glad you had such a wonderful time. I am really excited and nervous. My cycling buddy Jane and I have been hammering the hills recently concentrating on them rather than worrying about the distance too much. The only downfall at the moment is the weather. we went out on Sunday and it was soooo cold! So I think we will have to do a bit more spinning! We are booked onto the training weekend in January so it will be interesting to see how much we have (hopefully) improved since October.

Thank you againSmile [:)]
