Hi Angela,
We cycled Cuba in November 2008 and I can honestly say you are going to have the best time!! The people are so friendly and helpful, and it's such a beautiful country.
For training, start with small distances and work up - 40 miles on the first try is ambitious ... but, you go girl!! :o) Get yourself a lovely female saddle with lots of padding and padded shorts. It's up to you whether you wear knickers underneath - some girls don't, some do, it's personal choice. I think our old forum discussion is still here - no one write to it anymore but I'm sure there are plenty of tips you can get from it as we've shared everything there!! Can't remember the name of it though ...
Hope everything goes well for you!!
xx

Hi Angela,
My name is Aly and I am fat, 52 and a paramedic from the highlands of Scotland. I had not ridden a bike for 30 years and managed most of Cuba. The distances are not a bother as you have regular stops all along the way for water etc but the hills were my nemisis. I would suggest doing some small undualtions as they call them . You will love it and the friends you will walk beside out there are second to none. You are all in it for the same reason and it is not a competition so noone interested in being the best. Mind you I thinf that even if it had been a competition the crowd of girls I cycled with would still have come back for me. I loved them all and I am so looking forward to meeting them all again in May at the house of lords. You will love it all. Take plenty cream for your nether bits and you will do fine. I will keep popping on here to see how you are getting on but if you need any further info please phone me on - 01397702267 or email astew1957@aol.com and I will do all I can to help.
Cheery
Stay safe and well
Aly
