Hi

Just managed to get on to the forum. Sarah its great news bet you are over the moon.

Not packed yet as my two youngest grandchildren are staying with me Sat night and so cannot put my things out on spare bed until Sun night. Well I suppose it will stop me packing and unpacking and repacking half a dozen times. Doing last bit of shopping tomorrow so that will be it.

Looking forward to my full body massage on Tuesday. No more training after that. Just chilling. So looking forward to actually starting the ride now, must admit really excited and also nervous.

Hey gals, long time since posting I know but I have been soooo taken up with other stuff that I thought I would never get back to the swing of cycling and getting ready. Started now but lot of catching up to do. Cant look back on all the missed postings so you will have to bring me up to speed at the airport. My goodness, we have enough time there.
Ok hurricane Paloma is still on track for tomorrow. Although it will be passed by the time we get there, we may still be affected. There is going to be a lot of clearing up. There maybe a knock on effect with power, supplies etc. I am sure we will still go but I just want to pre warn.
I am now going to pack my bag. I have been having dreams that I get to the airport and forget the essentials. Contact numbers, passports, insurance, cycling shoes and saddle. I am so anxious. Help is needed. My brain is mush........

Heck, where have you all gone. Have I scared you all away or have I got the wrong date and missed the plane.
Got work this afternoon but I know some of you are doing the I.O.W. Weather not too bad down here so wishing you a good ride.
X Elaine

Embarrassed [:$] Hurricane Paloma
Reply Quote
Hi Elaine and everyone.
I have been watching the path of hurricane Paloma, and it looks like it is going over the area of Cuba where we should be later this week. I hope there is not too much damage as the people have still not got over the effects of the previous hurricanes, Gustaff and Ike in August and September.
I feel a bit embarrassed about arriving to stay in hotels when many of them may have lost their homes and everything.
I am planning to pack today but leave room in my bags to take some "useful" things to leave there.
Amanda, have you sorted out the cake yet? Why not cut it up just before you leave home?
See you all soon, I hope!
Doreen

Ooo Julz, you make it sound so glam!! London, Paris, Havana - champagne anyone??

Everyone's talking about packing - I haven't even started!! I had all these plans to do lots of sorting and packing this weekend but got called into the office - thanks for keeping me company, Donna!! :o)

I've got my dress for the last evening sorted but that's about it. And obviously, the cycling kit but that's a given ;o)

We've got 40-50mph winds down here on the coast today so should've gone out on the bike to get some wind training in!!

Sam.

Elaine, as if we'd go without you!

It does sound glam like that doesn't it.. All those cities in one day. Was glad to be of assistance Sam.

Anyhow the reason for my post today is that I was going to go out on the bike this morning, but the rain and a book got in the way! So was still in bed at 11am. There's a field at the back of our house where all the local kiddy rugger and footie teams train. This is the first year for about 8 that its been used again for that use (long story) but imagine at 11 o'clock watching the telly and hearing the din quiet as all those little 4/5/6 yrs olds were silent for more than a minute Apart from the usual tear that comes into my eyes watching the service on the telly, there were drips because of the little ones. Corny I know!

Oh and I'm about to unpack, as I knew I would to re minimise whats going in.

Sarah B, how are you feeling now you've had a couple more recovery days?

Sarah M, how's Brice going to cope without you? You'll have to bring him a big faaat cigar.

Only 3 more sleeps girls, only 3 more sleeps. Not counting Weds a sleep because I won't be.

Donna
xx

I don't think it has sunk in properly with me, we've been training and talking about it for so long that now it's here it doesn't seem real.  I've got some stuff packed and still loads on the bed and I'm trying to get excited but I've still got to work tomorrow and Tue. I've had some problems at work which have dulled my excitement a tad.  Once I leave the house on Wed I know i will be really excited and probably feeling really sick, I can't wait to meet up with you all.

Bryce will miss me I think.  He has sent me two very nice cards he made on the computer.  He has also given me 10p for every mile he and I have cycled together, what a lovely man.

Sam, do you need a lift from New Milton station?  Lyndsey, I need to know where you live, could you e-mail or text your address to me please.

I seem to have lots of bottles and packs of things and that horrible feeling that I'm going to forget something really important.

hi girls.

thanks donna, i'm feeling much better thank you. My chest still sounds like a 40 a day smoker but i don't care now - i'm too excited.

just a few quick questions for anyone:

Is everyone only taking the recommened £200 pounds or more?

Apart from the last night is everyone going for really casual ie trackie bottoms and tops or just casual skirts, cropped trousers?

And sounds like i'll beat you all - think i'm getting there about midnight - pauls at work all day wed and its a 3 hour journey one way so i'd rather him get me there early to get back

Hi girls, Getting very close.
I start my journey to meeet you all at 7.30 pm on Tues night. I am catching the sleeper train from Fort William to London , arriving 8.00 Wed morning. It is the only one I can get in time. I am going to a hotel for a few hours on Wed night and I will go over to Airport about 4am. I have made tablet so will take it with me. I am looking forwrd to it all now but I a,m getting over stinking head cold so not feeling at peak fitness yet b ut hopefully by Thurs I will be all better.
My case is packed and I am at 20kgs and struggling to get everything I need into my hand luggae. Need to do a wee bit juggling of stuff. I have no room to take over any extras but took over a suitcase of kids stuff when I went last Nov so I dont feel so bad. Looking forward to putting faces to names.
Travel safe everyone and I will see you all Thurs.

Hi all

Sarah B glad you feeling a bit better - I've only got about £200 to take. Am going just casual - haven't got a posh frock for last night either just a nice top and cropped trousers - do I need a posh frock ???

question is how to get all stuff in ?? got saddle, gel seat cover, helmet, bike bag, rucksack etc etc as well as clothes for a fortnight (staying for extension) lol !! Have got stuff all ready to pack in spare room and don't think it's all going to go in ??!! don't think will have space for extras for locals as well although have bought some lollipops to hand out to kids. Am going to start having last minute panic any time now ARGHHHHH !!!!!

I am a Lurker!

Hi Girls - I have been reading all your posts and sharing all your thoughts and anxieties along the way. I am cycling with you next week so I thought I would just say "hello". So here I am, I have a tiny advantage in that I did India last year, but I am still just as nervous as you girls. All I can say is don't worry too much about posh frocks - just something that makes you feel nice, you will be glad of it after joggers and t shirts all week! I hope that now I have said "hi" there will be a piece of cake for me at the airport. See you there bright and early!!! Lots of Love Debbie C

Hi ladies, I did India last November and just want to say all the best to you all, I know you will have a wonderful, life changing experience, that you will remember forever, don't worry about forgetting anything, if you do, someone else will have remembered it and will share it!

I remember the anxiety and excitement that I felt 2 days or so before we left, and am reliving that excitement a little now reading all your posts, have a wonderful time, keep safe and God bless to you all.

Hi Girls
God i am getting so nervous i can't explain. feel awful as done little training last 2 weeks cos of one thing or aniother including weather and ankle.

Was actually worrying this morning to Iain if there wil be enough cake

Still not packed. Just brought clothes back from Iains so i can sort them out. That is the only problem with being in two places - you lose track where everything is. And you lot or worrying about forgetting something how do you think i am going to do!!!
