How do I go about asking companies for sponsorship or to donate items? I've emailed the company I work for and 'unfortunately they can't on this occasion'. Has anyone suceeded in getting sponsorship from companies? Any advice would be great!!

I work for Virgin - Now you would imagine that they would have a little bit of spare money to throw around...However when asked for sponsorship they told me that they "couldn't help me as my event is taking place overseas."
After many emails to top level management, and even a letter to Richard Branson himself, all of whic have been ignored, i feel very let down by the company i work for, and feel that i would have had more help if i was working for a small local company.
Good luck though in your endeavours!

Hiya,
I work for USC and went to the marketing managerof the company, when i explained what i was doing (bike the baltic in id of Marie Curie) they were really helpful offering to pay for the registration and even have phoned paper's for me to get them to help... only asked last week and they have been on the phone constantly asking how things are goin and tellin me how they are workin on ways to help me! Been fantasic!
Think if you just explain fully what u are doing, go to the right person and even offer to have a logo or something to do with the company on you when you do your event (they are talkin of making me a t-shirt to get a picture for the paper in and to take with me with the USC badge on it) then you might get a positive response!
Hope all goes well!! xxxx

I can top the "overseas" get out clause! My company (A big insurance Company) have said that they can only match funding if there are more than 3 people in the company taking part in the event!!!! so as its only me they won't match funding!! how stingey is that!!!! Other companies I have worked for have always been supportive of staff taking part in charity events. The attitude of my current employer has disgusted me beyond belief. I would contact top level management but i doubt it would get me anywhere. So instead I'm sending lock emails to the other sites that we operate at to see if I can drum up sponsorship that way instead.

Success!! I persisted with Game and wrote them a nice letter with my charity's logo and number in the top corner. They have sent me £20 in gift vouchers. A letter definately made a difference as it is more personal than an email. Jen

Good luck!! I wrote in the letter that I would be willing to include company logos on any publicity material I produced, give them a mention on my website etc.

Hi Jen,
I have had the same problem. You may want to find out if you can just go around and ask your colleagues and other staff to sponsor you. Some companies will match the amount a person has raised but I think you will need to check with the HR departments.
That's all I can think of. Hope it helps.

Hi,
I've found that if you phone up and ask to be directed to the person that you need to send a letter to and get into a conversation with them you stand more of a chance of getting either sponsorship or a donation of goods for events.
Hope this helps. I live in Warwickshire and the companies that I've approached have been wonderful.
Donna

In my area we have a local gazette which has really local events and advertisments. I got in touch with the lady who puts it together and asked her if she would donate a page to advertise my challenge and to put logos/names of any companies which are willing to donate cash. She's agreed and is also putting info about me in this months edition. Hopefully I'll get some interest.
I'm thinking of suggesting a £50 donation from businesses but haven't decided if this is a good idea yet.

I work as a freelance craft demonstrator so I dont have an employer to sponser me, but I have contacted lots of craft companies asking for Goodie Bags to be auctioned off, I have had a brilliant response, I contacted them all by e-mail and I always include my justgiving page in my signiture, some have also made a small donation, I did also on my last fund raising event go round lots of local shops and businesses asking for items that could be used for raffle's and auctions I took my official charity letter and again got a good response, I have never managed yet to get any sponsership direct from a company.

I havent started lookin around really for this event, but a couple of years ago my school ran a cricket tour of barbados and i know that the team got some quite significant sponsorship in return for having logos printed on all there touring gear. I'm going to approach companies for sponsorship in return for printing logos everywhere i can find!! back of shorts, vest back, vest front, shoes??
any other ideas anyone?? and NO IM NOT GETTING MY FOREHEAD TATOOED, I DONT CARE HOW MUCH THEY ARE OFFERING! :P

I work for Asda but don't know who to approach for sponsorship.
Should I approach my mamnager or should I try going further up and approach head office?
Also what kind of things did you write in your letter, directly for money or for things like raffle prizes?
Thanks Portia
