Hi all,

Really pleased as we (Mavis, Deena, Janey and me. Missed Sarah B, but Ethan is quite poorly so needs must) did a 35 mile, I know not much by usual standards, but full of lots of undulations and bloody hills today. The weather was on form and guess what the sun shined it was great.

Janey, got ex lge shirts so I'm having one of hers and donating one of mine to Mavis, hopefully we'll all eventually get one the right size. Didn't know it was your company that did co sponsorship Linds, thats great.

Hey Sez, it will be great if we do see you. Well done.....

As for Brazilians and Hollywoods Ummmmm no thanks, just a tidy up! and all booked..... I'm going to get my calves massaged before we go, have got to book though.

Hi Girls

I am getting paranoid about cameras now. Westcountry news was on the ward on wednesday following our HCA and us around for a programme "A day in the life of.." they originally wanted midwife but that wasnt feasible so it was a HCA but of course they wanted a midwife again and they collared me so i had  alittle slot with a baby talking to the presenter and then they interviewed me. I didn't half get some stick from the girls at work. Will be shown on air in a couple of weeks.

Better go and hand over

Amanda

Hi girls,
When I was in Cuba last Nov departue tax was about 25$ which was roughly about £15.00 each, I would not imagine it to have changed to much.
Still on call until mon and shattered but hopefully I will get out on my bike. I feel vey stiff and rusty and I can see me walking a lot in Cuba!! I am hoping my cycling shoes will be able to do both successfully.
The hills are getting me beat and I got a really sore bum after doing 2 x long runs , one 44 miles then 38 next day. This was couple of weeks ago and that is the first time I have felt that so panicking now about distance. I think it is just that it is getting so near and I am getting like a wee girl before Santa comes down the chimney. !Weather dreadful. Already all the lovely coloured leaves are getting blasted with the wind, of the trees. It is cold windy and wet today and forecast not looking good. Never mind the sun will hopefully shine for us in Cuba.
I am struggling to get cycling shorts with pads in them because of my size so I think I will have a go at a pair of mens and see how I go along.
Tablet sales going just great . Up till today, just since 15th July, I have made and sold 962 bags of tablet and still taking orders. IT has been amazing and I will carry on for as long as folks want to buy it but i am so so so so sick of the smell of butter. milk sugar and condensed milk cooking in a pot.
Never mind I think I am across the border now for next years ride so hopefully it will keep coming. Good luck to everyone.
Stay safe
Cheery

Yes, I am a big girl and got what was termed "unisex" shorts which are fab. Then ordered a pair of Corinne Dennis ones which I don't like as padding half as thick! So ordered another couple of pairs of the unisex. Are great for the larger lady and agree nice length of padding!

cycle shoes & cleats
Reply Quote
Hey .. those of you that use cycle shoes and cleats .. do you have problems with painful toes? During the ride with Elaine & Dor my toes really hurt. Not all of them, just the middle 3 mainly! I thought it was due to cold wind as I only had the Shimano sandals on, but having tried a pair of cycle shoes now I get similar feeling. The shoes are long enough, are the correct size.

Hi Julz, it might be saddle position, I sometimes get it and don't wear cleats, usually when its been a long ride. Von is the expert on theses sorts of things.

Its a beautiful day here, and as I was cycling yesterday, have decided not to go out today, wallpapering, and making cakes with my daughter.

Aly, if your doing rides of that distance I can't imagine that you'll be doing that much walking. I wonder if we're all a bit fitter than we think we are, but are just getting last minute nerves.

Hi Julz

Could be that your foot position is slighter wrong, try keeping your foot squarer on the pedal, then your toes won't ram the end of your shoe.  The shoes are harder there.  Another tip is to keep your toenails short, might sound daft, but works for me.

I was delighted to see the backs of the t-shirts, but it was'nt my little business that sponsored them - I am Drop Dead Gorgeous (obviously!!).

Re the minibus, what about picking up say at Rownhams Services on the M27 then say Winchester or Fleet.  I could come to you Sam to save another pick-up.  What time would we be leaving-ish?

The feeling was actually worse when I was wearing the Sandals, but I just thought that might have been my toes getting cold! So think perhaps it could be the foot position as when I curled my toes inward it eased it. It is the ball of my foot that hurts with the shoes on and toes go tingly!

It is good about the sponsor on the back though as like us a lot of your customers might think it is you without thinking!

Shame about the mini bus, I was looking forward to travelling up with the south girls, but having no car etc I couldn't get to services and figured best to just book and get it sorted. Oh well we have the rest of the journey plus 9 days when not in the saddle to chat away.

Went out today and did 10 miles.. would have done more but had a friend with me who had to work tonight so had to only do a short one for her to get back and get ready. But was still good to get out.

Morning All,

Just catching up on the posts from over the weekend. Couldn't get onto the internet as I couldn't see properly - bloody wasp flew into my eye friday evening on the way home from work and everything was a bit blurry over the weekend. Wasn't wearing my glasses as it was dusk and the roads that I cycle through aren't the best.

Re: mini-bus. It may be easier if I come down to someone and we meet there then do another pick up at the services. Just don't think that my flatmate will appreciate us screeching away that time of night!! Thinking that a midnight pick-up will be good if we have to get there for 3am?? So far it's Linds, Sarah M, Elaine and Doreen on the bus (race you Julz!! :o) ) but does anyone need a return journey??

Wasn't the weekend lovely?? (sorry to rub it in Aly :o) ) Got out on the bike both days - managed a fair bit with the new shoes. They're great aren't they!!

Right, must start work.

Sam

I am coming on Saturday 25th for the Cotswolds training!  I'll drive there and back in the day, but at least I'll get chance to catch up with some of you whilst we're riding - and to check I can still do that hill! (Deena - you'll make it with me this time!!)

Hope the weather stays good  - dont fancy another Gridiron!

Wasp in the eye - ouch!! I knew there was a good reason to buy my new orange tinted specs!

1 month today...oh my God, I am soooo excited!

lol,

Sezmo xx

Going to miss joining in with the training next weekend but have to work. Will be thinking of all of you though.
I know I should be excited but I feel rather sick and terrified. Following watching Janet and Colletes clip on tv this morning, the trainer said something about not getting off your bike cause there would be 80 other women behind you. GULP. Mind that also implies that they have to be at the front poor things. Is there anyone else suffering the nerves like me. Not keen on flying either.
Trying to pull myself together. Sam, taking passengers onboard whilst cycling is not recommended. Hope you are now ok though. When you say bus, how big do you mean? Have you already booked it. Dors and I can make way to Rownams services on M27 if need. Or Winchester on M3. Where is the bus based? One way is fine by me. X E

Elaine, your definately not on your own, terrified is an understatement, but I dont suppose theres anyway of backing out now.  The flying bit dosnt bother me, infact I love flying, I keep hinting about flying lessons, the only thing I dont like is those little seats and being cramped up, for 12 hours.  On a positive note 80 women behind us, not me and you, there will be 80 women in front lol.

Hi E,

Well, I did feel sorry for the poor wasp because I saw it get caught in the truck that had just overtaken me's slipstream and was fighting to stay upright - this of course before it blinded me!!

It's an 8-seater mini-bus (because of the luggage that we'll have) so there'll be plenty of room to stretch out before sitting with our knees around our ears for a few hours - and the tall ones of us inpersonating Houdini :o) I haven't booked it yet as didn't know what people wanted to do. Linds, as Sarah M is coming to you, shall I do the same then we can pick up Elaine and Dors at Rownhams (can you leave your car there for that long without being clamped??). Bus is based in Christchurch but can start between Poole and New Forest quite happily.

I'm getting quite nervous and excited at the same time. Is everyone bringing those pull-along bags?? Mine is one of those hiking back-pack things which I used last time but my back ached badly so might get another...

Typical, I've just found a new cycling-buddy just when we're about to go!! One of my friends has started training for the London Marathon and I jokingly said that I'll cycle behind him with a megaphone like in the Rocky films!! And he said, yep, when do you want to start!!

Sam.

Hi Sam - you always seem to be in the wars.  Weather was lovely, did'nt go out on bike as I thought it would be a good idea to clear out the garage so I had somewhere weather proof for our rapidly expanding collection of bikes.  Did all that, then the garage door broke so still not weather proof.  Plus I now can't get the bikes out!!

How about you coming over to me and the minibus pick us up from here, then we won't disturb your flat mate.  you could come over anytime thats convenient for your lift-giver?  Let me know.  Also a return journey would be good!!

Linds
