Jewellery Making

Hiya

I'm hopefully doing the Nile Bike Ride for OXFAM next Feb and have to raise £3000. I didn't think of myself as at all creative before, but to raise money I had a look on ebay and other shops for jewellery making supplies. You can buy all the stuff in bulk and although there's an initial expense to get the equipment, you hardly ever have to stock up on what you've got. There's loads of tips on the internet too! I've made about 10 pairs of earrings and 3 bracelets so far but have only being doing it for two days and I would guess that each item has probably cost me about 20p to make. Then as summers coming up, I going to try and sell them at Car boot sales, summer fairs and sports competitions. Even if each thing is sold for £1 you still make a profit!!! Just need to check if there are regulations at each site on selling but as its going to charity, I've probably got more chance of selling.

I hope this idea helps someone

Hi Jenny,

What a great idea. Let us know how you get on. You could get some little cards printed with your Justgiving web address on them and include the cards with every piece of jewellery you sell. That way, your customers can go home and sponsor you online...

Hi Jenny,

I am in the process of raising money for a children's home in Tanzania at the moment and will be climbing Kilimnajaro in March 2007. I think that your jewellery making idea is brill! Do you have any advice on what sites to visit to get advice/purchase supplies etc?

Would really appreciate any tips!

Thanks very much,

Jade Big Smile [:D]

Hiya

I've had a look on a few websites to find stuff. www.justbeads.co.uk has some good stuff and also ebay has some great deals on equipment, wire and beads. I've also been to craft shops and markets so that I can see exactly what i need. Also http://jewelrymaking.about.com/od/beginnerscorner/ (the spelling is correct - I think this may be the american way of spelling it) is good for advice on how to make basic stuff and to give an idea of what equipment and materials you need. I've not really looked around too much more other than to go on shop websites (like accessorize) to get ideas but as soon as I got the beads and wire I just played around and made up my own stuff.

Hope this helps

Hiya

Just an update, I've sold some of my jewellery now, some at the school i'm a teacher at (made about £50 there) and have just spent the day and our town's summer carnival and sold some more and made about £100 so I'm gradually on my way! Got a few friends involved in making the jewellery too and it's actually quite theraputic!

i hope everyone is getting on well with their fundraising!
