Hiya
Yes I've made the decision to change. It was too much pressure to do the MA and do the Cycle Cuba at the same time and I wanted to be able to do my best with both, rather than give 50/50 to the two things. So I've also joined you Angie. Not sure which ride I'll be on yet, hopefully the first, but we'll see :)

Hi girls ... well done for making the jump successfully. I will make the final decision by the end of August, as need to hear back when I am likely to be moving. If its sooner rather than later then I will have no real option but to shift. And to be honest the pressure of all the 'little' extras is building. I just cannot raise the £350 taxes on top of everything else! You on the first ride I pressume Angie?

Catch up again soon... I'll try to check in while I am away too

I've sent off the new application form, just to update my details and requested to go on the first ride. Fingers crossed that's fine :) It still seems wierd not to be going to Cuba because it's been in my consciousness for so long. I need to start reading about Jordan and thinking about that from now on (only trouble is, when you do a google search for Jordan, you end up getting Katie Price the model!)
Anyway, I think we did meet at the information day briefly Angie, I seem to remember you. I'll probably go to their next one if they organise it again, just because it's a great place to meet people.
Anyway, I need to go and clean the house a bit so speak to you later :)

A little bit about Jordan!!

angie 07-19-2008, 12:10
hey Catherine
yep its strange not going to cuba, like you i was geared up for cuba and had a couple of books. Jordan will be interesting, we go to mount nebo which is repoterdly the site where moses died, thers a small monument there, then theres Petra, its a world heritage site, and looks amzing and thats as much as i know!,heres what i found on the net

Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, (Arabic: الأردنّ‎ al-Urdunn) is a country in Southwest Asia spanning the southern part of the Syrian Desert down to the Gulf of Aqaba. It shares borders with Syria to the north, Iraq to the north-east, Israel and the West Bank to the west, and Saudi Arabia to the east and south. It shares the coastlines of the Dead Sea and Gulf of Aqaba with Israel, the West Bank, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Much of Jordan is covered by desert land, particularly the Arabian Desert, however the north-western area, with the sacred Jordan River is regarded as part of the Fertile Crescent.

Petra (Greek, “city of rock”), is an ancient city of Arabia, in what is now southwestern Jordan, immediately east of the village of Wadi Musa. The stronghold and treasure city of the Nabataeans, an Arab people, Petra is referred to as Sela in the Bible (see 2 Kings 14:7). It was situated in the land of Edom, between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, near the points of intersection of great caravan routes from Gaza on the Mediterranean Sea, from Damascus, from Elath (now Al ‘Aqabah, Jordan) on the Red Sea, and from the Persian Gulf.

Inhabited since prehistoric times, this Nabataean caravan-city, situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, was an important crossroads between Arabia, Egypt and Syria-Phoenicia.
Petra is half-built, half-carved into the rock, and is surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges. It is one of the world's most famous archaeological sites, where ancient Eastern traditions blend with Hellenistic architecture.

I always find it spurs me on knowing the places i will get to see.
heres hoping you get on the first ride also

Angie

wow, you've done your research! I'm the same though I like to know where I'm heading :) I'll probably get some books too, I bought the rough guide to Cuba and the dorling kindersley books for that trip so no doubt I'll be doing the same for Jordan :)
I've sent off the application and cuba withdrawal form and requested the first ride for both, so I really hope it works out :)

bloody hell it was hot!!
stood doing the bbq all day, raising money for the RC, and hubby sold the curry, it was sooooo hot, but made another £60 on the curries...
am feeling that I would rather do overtime than continue slogging my guts out like this...its bloody hard work..spent all morning cooking and 6 hours in the sun...
am now looking a tad red!!!

I'm here. Sent my form off today. Doing the second ride but feel like I know you already from all the chat previously - it was you who kept me going on the fundraising for India. I always remember you saying 'Start Now' when I wondered when to start.

Will change my signature tomoro - too late tonight
