Hi everyone,
A few of us hav been trying to arrange a get together for training and Rutland Water was suggested - 25 miles off road through very pretty scenery and good stoppng places. The suggested dates were either 9th or 10th August and several people have indicated that they would come.
However, I know that some would have to travel a fair distance and wondered if maybe we could turn it into a weekend. I have found out that there are other good routes in the locality and I would be willing to do a reccy. So 2 questions
1. Who would be interested?
2. Which date is best?
3. (Yes I know I said two) Who wants to make it a week-end?
I know that some ladies have difficulty with home arrangements so perhaps it could be either/or days to try and help as many of us as possible and believe me some of us really do need help.
I look forward to hearing from anyone/everyone!

Just in case anyone is interested I have attached the link to the anglian water web-site

Hi Lorraine,
Yes Rutland is quite a bit nearer to you than Stratford, but I purposely avaoided trying to ordanise anything that week-end, so that if anyone wanted to do both.....
Dependant upon the weather - please let it be kind, I think there will be at least six of us - Catherine who lives in Wales is struggling a bit, so I have said she can come and stay with me for the week-end if she wants. Yes we are all doing October - last chance to do anything before the dark nights come. That's going to be the killer its okay at the moment with warmish dry light evenings, how are we going to get through the cold dark and wet and still be fit in March!!!
Hope you can make Rutland - I had better get over there and sort out something for the second day, although I have been given some suggestions, quiet roads and a fair length of old roman road!
Sally

Hi Everyone,
Well it seems as though there are a few of us who need the training badly enough to meet on either one or both days, so here goes.
These are my thoughts on the programme of events - comments, critisisms or better ideas are welcome.
Saturday 9th Meet at Normanton Car Park on south est side of RW. - 10.00 a.m.?
Parking is £3 a day, (I did try and get a reduction but Anglian Water said no.)
Cycle to Bourne (see link - http://www.cycle-route.com/routes/Rutland_Water_to_Bourne-Cycle-Route-1005.html Rutland water to Bourne avoiding main roads where possible. Passes through Pickworth, Witham on the Hill. Distance 22 miles - predicted time 2 hours + a bit.
Lunch at Bourne
Return to Normanton - back around 4 p.m. - total 44 miles
Sunday 10th Meet at Whitwell Car Park - north east side - 10.00 a.m. Cycle round Rutland Water including the Hambleton arm aprrox 2.5 hours - 25 miles
I know that perhaps people would like to do a bit more and there are some routes in the vicinity (or you could go round twice!) but I thought if people had been away overnight they might not want to be too late finishing so that they could get home.
I am hoping to get over to Rutland in the next few days to sus things out a bit more.
As far as I know the following people have said they would come on at least one of the days (if I miss anyone my apologies and just add your name to the list) Anyone else the more the merrier!
Me, Catherine, Jane, Judith, Lorraine, Jane, Lesley, Bec and Ellie.
Really looking forward to seeing everyone

Looks good Sally, I am Judiths cousin, i did india last year and we did a training weekend in Rutland last year, the cycle round the lake is great, its not flat, and it is a bit rough in places so good training, will take about 4 hours with stops, plenty of places for drinks etc along the way, not sure if you have cycled in a group before but often a route will take much longer than it would when on your own or in a 2 as you tend to wait for each other, someone will inevitably have a problem with a bike, in a big group you always spend more time at lunch too, well there is so much chatting to do! etc etc. so your time estimates may be a bit ambitious! the other route you have chosen for Saturday i don't know, but sounds good. The starting point at Whitwell has a great big cycle shop, with great accessories as well as bikes, and they will match wiggle prices, so bring your purses and build in some time for shopping!! Not sure which day i will make or if I will do both days will let you know.
