05-15-2007, 12:25 Colu barmaid Joined on 05-15-2007 Posts 1 Layer Road to Roots Hall Colchester United have been fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust in memory of a young U's fan, Emily Begg, who died last November aged just 14.  I wanted to get involved because I knew Emily's mum from our days as student nurses, so I thought it would be a good idea to ride a bike from Layer Road to Roots Hall, Southend United's ground.  I hoped to raise a couple of hundred quid. In no time at all I was swamped with requests to join me, and the bike ride developed into a major project involving 27 riders and 5 following cars plus two refreshment stops.  The local press were amazing and gave us loads of publicity. The day of the ride was glorious.  We had to start just after 6am as it was a 12 o'clock kick off and a 40+ mile journey, but our ride down through the Essex countryside was fantastic - and the 3-0 result made it all worthwhile (except for the Southend fans who joined us Best of all, we have now raised just over £7000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, which is little short of amazing!  Justgiving has really helped, as donors of larger amounts and those not living locally have found it easy to get their money (and gift aid) to us.    Report
